Chapter 42

1785 Words

Chapter 45 Annie followed Mark next door to his bedroom. When she reached for the light switch Mark pulled her back. “No lights,” Mark said. “It’s better he doesn’t think you’ve moved from your room. I’ll leave the door open a c***k. Just get into bed.” Annie obliged. The bed was high and piled with pillows and comforters. So, the Spartan detective who worked the streets, slept in his car or didn’t sleep at all half the time, the man with the rumpled hair, really did like the finer things in life. Well, good for him. She hadn’t taken him for a comfort type of guy. She wasn’t sure she could handle a night next to Mark without badly needed physical relief. Her body still hadn’t recovered from the smoldering expression in his eyes when he’d seen her standing on the dock, wet and exposed.
