Chapter 3: The company

1739 Words
Aurora's POV Then we finally got to the company, and I got out of the car. "Should I wait for you?" the driver asked. "No, you should leave," I said, and he drove away. I immediately turned around— And gasped. I was completely mesmerized. I'd never been anywhere this big before. The building stood so tall and magnificent that I had to tilt my head back just to take in all of it. I hope I don't get into trouble in a place like this. I gulped nervously at the thought before taking a deep breath and walking inside. The moment I stepped through the entrance, a cold shiver ran down my spine. I was completely speechless. I couldn't say a word. I was shocked. In my entire life, I'd never been surrounded by so much wealth before, but the moment I stepped inside, I could practically smell the richness of the company. Everything looked expensive. The polished floors reflected the lights above, the walls were spotless, and everything around me screamed luxury. I blinked several times before snapping back to reality. I shouldn't be in a place like this. I shook my head at the thought and started walking toward the receptionist. I was almost at the desk when the receptionist suddenly jolted up from her seat and ran out. I stopped in my tracks. Is she okay? I looked around, wondering if anyone else had noticed her strange behavior, but there was no one nearby. I was left standing there, completely confused. Should I wait for her? Or should I just go ahead? "Hmm..." I thought about it for a moment. Maybe I should just go. What's the worst that could happen? I'll drop the items off and leave immediately. I nodded to myself and smiled. Then I stopped someone who was leaving the company. "Excuse me, please. Do you know where the Computer Engineering Department is?" She looked at me with a confused expression, probably wondering why I was asking her, but she answered anyway. I thanked her and headed toward the elevator. I smiled to myself. Now I'm going to see what her department looks like. I can't believe Jessica actually gets to work here. The thought made me roll my eyes. I stepped into the elevator and looked around. Even the elevator was ridiculously luxurious. The walls were shining, the floor was spotless, and everything looked like it had cost more money than I could probably earn in a lifetime. I shook my head in disbelief. Seriously, what kind of company is this? The elevator finally opened. I stepped out and immediately froze. "Damn..." The floor looked f*****g amazing. And this wasn't even the penthouse yet! If this floor looked this beautiful, I couldn't even imagine what the rest of the building looked like. I smiled and headed toward the Computer Engineering Department. As soon as I opened the door... Everyone's eyes fell on me. I immediately felt nervous. "Good morning," I said. "I came to give Jessica her bag." My voice shook slightly. Oh my gosh, can I just leave already? Why does everyone seem so stressed? I glanced around the room. Then my eyes landed on the huge screen. I froze. Wait... Is that my— Before I could finish the thought, Jessica's voice cut through the room. "What are you doing here?" She almost yelled, and when I looked at her, she looked scared. I raised an eyebrow. "Your mom told me to bring this to you. She said you'd need it." I handed her the bag. "Alright. You may leave now," she said immediately. I scoffed. Like I want to be here anyway. I turned around to leave. "Wait." A deep voice stopped me. A shiver immediately ran down my spine. I slowly turned around. First, I looked at Jessica. She had gone pale. I'd never seen her look that scared before. Then I turned toward the owner of the voice. And I froze. Oh my God. I'd never seen anyone as handsome as the man standing in front of me. Wait... Is that Alexander Kim?! My eyes widened. Oh my gosh! I thought he was away. What is he doing here? I immediately mentally slapped myself. Okay, it's his company. But why today?! It was crazy. I'd always wanted to meet Alexander Kim, but I never expected it to happen like this. Standing here looking like Jessica's pawn? Seriously? I couldn't even look at him properly to admire his face. I guess this was reality. "Yes?" I answered. My voice came out much quieter than I'd intended. Alexander's eyes remained fixed on me. "How did you get the entry pass to this company?" His deep voice was so soothing, yet the way he stared at me made my stomach twist. Oh gosh... What is this feeling I'm having? "Uhm..." I swallowed nervously. "I got the pass from Jessica's mom." Alexander immediately turned toward Jessica. His expression darkened. "So you just give your pass to anyone to enter the company?" His voice was furious. I immediately became scared. So did Jessica. I could feel my legs trembling beneath me. I mean... how can someone have this much aura? Jessica immediately started explaining herself. "I'm so sorry, sir. I don't give out my entry pass to just anyone. It's only my mom that I gave it to." She quickly glanced at me. "But she's our house help, and I seem to have forgotten my bag. My mom sent her to give it to me. I'm so sorry, sir." She bowed her head. I did the same. But did she really need to call me her house help? Well... it's only for the meantime. Alexander simply nodded and turned his attention back to the computer system. My eyes followed his gaze. Then I looked at the screen. My heart stopped. Wait... I'm not mistaken. That's my virus. My eyes widened. How did it get here? My heart began pounding violently against my chest. Oh my gosh. Was my virus used against this company?! What the f**k?! And what happens if they trace it and discover that I'm the one who created it? I swallowed hard. I'd be in jail forever. I'm just about to get my freedom! What kind of trouble have I gotten myself into?! I stared at the countdown. I had to do something. I had to fix this. "Alright, you can now—" Jessica's voice suddenly interrupted my thoughts. She reached toward me as if she wanted to push me out. But my mind was still racing. The virus. The countdown. My freedom. Everything was on the line. And before I knew it, I shouted— "WAIT!" Everyone's attention immediately snapped toward me. I pointed at the computer. "I can help with that." Everyone stared at me as if I'd just announced that I could fly. Jessica's face immediately twisted with anger. "What do you think you're doing?!" She stepped toward me. "You're definitely crossing the boundary. Get out!" She started pushing me toward the door. Oh God. What should I do now? "Stop." Alexander's voice cut through the room. Jessica immediately froze. My heart jumped. Oh my gosh... Am I in trouble? Alexander looked directly at me. "You sure you can fix this?" He pointed toward the computer system. Everyone looked confused, but nobody dared to say anything. I looked at the screen. Then I looked at Alexander. "Yes, I can." My voice was confident. Alexander studied me for a moment. "Okay." He gestured for me to come forward. The man sitting in front of the giant screen immediately stood up, looking puzzled. I walked forward and sat down in the chair. Then I got to work. I mean... It was my virus. I knew exactly how to stop this s**t. --- Alexander's POV I don't know what's going on. But from the way she's typing, she definitely knows what she's doing. My eyes remained fixed on her fingers as they moved rapidly across the keyboard. I don't know why, but something about her seems familiar to me. And I don't even know why I allowed her to do this. I could have stopped her. I could have fired the worker who gave her mother the pass. I could have fired the receptionist for letting her walk into this office. But the moment I saw her... Something felt different. There was something about her. Something I couldn't explain. And one thing about me is that I always trust my gut. That's what made me who I am today. I stared at her serious face as she continued typing. Her eyes were completely focused on the screen, and her fingers moved with incredible speed. Sweat slowly formed along her forehead. I narrowed my eyes. Where do I know her from? I tried to remember. But nothing came to mind. Then suddenly— "I'm done." I blinked. I looked at her, puzzled. Is she joking? There was no way she could have already finished. I turned toward the screen. And my eyes widened. Everything had returned to normal. The countdown was gone. The system was back. I immediately turned toward Lucas. "She said she's done." I stared at him. "Is she for real?" Lucas looked just as confused as I was. He quickly moved toward the computer and began typing. He checked the system again. And again. Then he slowly turned toward me. "What is it?" I asked anxiously. "The virus has been cleared, sir." I stared at him. He looked completely confused. So was I. How could a girl who had appeared out of nowhere just clear a virus that Lucas—one of the best computer technicians in the country—couldn't even handle? I looked back at her. She had done it in less than twenty minutes. My eyes narrowed thoughtfully. She's definitely supposed to work here. This was exactly the kind of person I wanted in my company. Someone intelligent. Someone who could think under pressure. Someone who could solve a problem that even my best engineers couldn't handle. "Would you like to work here?" I looked directly at her. But the moment I said it... Something flashed through my memory. A face. A memory. A girl. My eyes widened slightly. And then I remembered exactly where I knew her from. I stared at her in surprise. "So..." My voice lowered. "It's you again."
