Chapter 17 Friday morning is nonstop the moment I get to work. A call from the nursing home comes in first thing, but we also have a viewing at noon, so I send Taylor and Henry on the removal and spend the morning getting the chapel set up for the service. Molly directs the florists who arrive, and spends way too much time fussing over the arrangements, in my opinion, but she keeps busy so I can’t complain. I don’t have time—I run the vacuum down the aisle and up each pew, then fluff the cushions, queue the selected music, polish the casket, set up the video memorial…there are dozens of little details that need to be just right before the family arrives. Eckert’s might be the only funeral home in Ashbury, but I make sure every service we provide goes above and beyond what’s expected of us
