Evan watched Morgan pace back and forth in front of the window. Morgan’s arms were crossed over his chest, and his shoulders were drawn tight. They would have to leave soon. Morgan stopped and stared out through the grime on the window. “When I was fourteen, my father sat me down and told me he had a family secret he had to pass on. I figured we were displaced royalty or something like that. Then he started to tell me a story I knew all too well from my years in Catholic school—the story of Cain and Abel.
