James watched Ember and Janet drive away. He was miserable. When his father mind linked him about the plan, he wanted to tell her. They got swept up in each other, and he couldn't focus. He knew she was furious with him, but he made a vow to always protect her. He made a decision; he would follow them. He couldn't just let her go without him. He knew Janet had a lead on him, but he was confident he could find Ember. Her scent lingered on the pillow where she slept, and he picked it up. He brought it to his face and inhaled. He knew he wouldn't be able to stay away for too long. He went downstairs to tell his dad of his plan.
