Rey's hands trembled as she guided the cleaning cart back through the hall. Each step away from the Alpha's wing was like crawling out from under a crushing weight, and she didn't dare look back; she couldn't, not when her chest felt too tight and her jaw was locked so hard that her teeth ached. Her knees still stung from kneeling for as long as she had, and her palms were raw from scrubbing. But it wasn't the ache in her body that rattled her—it was him. The way he looked at her, like she was dirt and gold all at once. The way his voice scraped against her skin, soft and cruel. The way her body—traitor that it was—knew he was near before he had even spoken to confirm it. She shoved the cart into the supply closet with more force than necessary and slammed the door shut.
