Chapter 7 The Queen's password

I sat in my mothers study at the Thorne Estate. It was a nice room. The Thorne Estate room was big. It smelled like expensive leather, and it felt like history was all around me. This was very different from the townhouse where I lived with Mark. I had been Marks wife for three years. Our townhouse was cold. The Thorne Estate was a change from my old life as Marks wife, at the townhouse.

Mark was out, on bail. The problem was he had no place to call his own. I had made sure his bank accounts were frozen. I had taken away his cars. I had kicked Mark out of the office. At that moment, Mark was staying in a cheap motel with Chloe, and I could tell Mark was getting really upset and frustrated.

My eyes landed on my mothers safe in the corner. Mark used to walk past my mother every time he came to this house before my mother died. He would always laugh at my mothers safe . Mark said to me do you keep that thing, Evelyn? It is probably empty, like your head. " Mark had said that one time.

He did not know that the old junk was the master control for the Thorne Groups digital empire. The old junk was actually very important to the Thorne Group. The Thorne Group used the junk to control their whole digital empire.

I walked over to the keypad. The night my mother fell ill is still very clear in my mind. My mother had gripped my hand tightly and told me that if I was ever in trouble, the secret was, in the one thing she always wanted for me. My mother always wanted the best for me. Now, I was trying to figure out what that one thing was that she always wanted for me.

I typed the four words that she used to say every night:

The safe opened. Inside, I found a nice silver laptop and a black folder. This laptop was called the Master Key. My mother made the Master Key so that she could control everything. She wanted to be able to shut down the system if the people in charge of the board of directors turned against her. With the Master Key, my mother could do this with one command.

I said "Xavier," loud.

Xavier Knight showed up at the door. He looked over at the silver laptop. Raised an eyebrow. "Is that really it? Is the silver laptop the thing that will finally take down Xavier Knights' enemy?"

"Mark is trying to sell the blueprints of the Thorne shipping docks to the Vanes," I said in a cold voice. The Vanes are a family. Mark thinks he can still get in because he used to be the CEO of Thorne shipping docks for three years. He believes he still has the passwords. Tonight Mark is meeting the Vanes in a back room at the hotel. They are going to make a deal. Mark really needs money, so he is doing this. The Thorne shipping docks are very important to him. Mark is desperate for money.

Xavier said this with a laugh that did not sound very nice. "He really thinks he is smarter than you," Xavier said. "He thinks you just got lucky and inherited a title even after you took his company from him, the company that belonged to him."

"I said, let him think that," I told him, holding the laptop tight. The laptop was the key to everything. "This is the mistake the man will ever make with the laptop."

That night, I got to the hotel. I did not go into the hotel through the door. I went to the surveillance room instead. The hotel had a surveillance room. That is where I went.

I was looking at the screen. I saw Mark on it. Mark looked really bad. He had on his suit, the last expensive one he had, but it was all wrinkled. Mark was sitting in a booth with a man who was wearing a grey suit, and that man was Sebastian Vane.

Mark said, "I have the codes." His voice was shaking because he really wanted the money. The Thorne logistics network will be yours if you do what he wants. He just wants you to give him fifty million dollars. Mark needs the money to show Evelyn that she can not hurt him. Mark wants to prove to Evelyn that he is okay. The Thorne logistics network is what Mark is offering.

Sebastian Vane looked really bored. He said, "I want to know if the codes still work. Is that true? Evelyn Thorne is in charge now, as the Chairperson."

Mark let out a loud laugh that was totally making fun of someone. "Evelyn? Come on. She is a housewife. I had to show her how to use the TV remote for three years. I do not think she even knows that the company has a computer system. Evelyn is a person who looks important while she is playing around with Xavier Knight pretending to be something she is not.

Mark pulled out a flash drive. "I changed the master password months ago. The woman will never find it. The woman is not smart enough to look for the flash drive."

I was sitting in the surveillance room. I opened up the silver laptop that was in front of me. My fingers started moving fast across the keys. Then I saw Marks password right there, on the screen. It said MARK_IS_KING, which was the password that Mark had chosen.

I almost laughed.

I said to Mark it is time for him to wake up now. I whispered this to Mark.

I typed in the Master Password that my mother gave me: I-A-M-T-H-E-S-T-O-R-M. She told me to remember the Master Password I-A-M-T-H-E-S-T-O-R-M well. The Master Password I-A-M-T-H-E-S-T-O-R-M is very important.

​SYSTEM OVERRIDE INITIATED.

USER: EVELYN THORNE.

TARGET: EXTERNAL DRIVE 04.

ACTION: WIPE DATA AND LOCK USER.

In the booth, Mark pushed the flash drive toward Sebastian Vane. "Go ahead, plug the flash drive in. You will see that the flash drive is the key. The flash drive will show you that I am the one who's really, in control of the flash drive and everything else."

Sebastian plugged it in. Then his screen went red all of a sudden. The Thorne Group logo came up on the screen it was really big. After that, some big bold letters showed up on the screen that said:

​ACCESS DENIED. TRESPASSING DETECTED.

Marks face turned really pale. He said, "What is going on? No, this can not be true. Try doing it with the computer. Mark told the person to try it again.

The speakers in the room suddenly made a weird noise and then they were working. My voice was heard around the private room it sounded calm and steady. My voice was calm and steady.

"Did you really think I would not notice, Mark?"

Mark jumped out of his seat. He looked around. He looked like an animal that was trapped. Mark said, "Evelyn, where's Evelyn? How is Evelyn doing this to Mark?"

I am everywhere, Mark. I own the building the network and the very chair that you are sitting in. You told Mr. Vane that I do not know how to use a remote. Well, I just used a remote to call the police. The police are in the hallway. I used the remote to call the police because you thought I did not know how to use it. Now the police are here, Mark. They are in the hallway waiting for you because I used the remote to call them.

Sebastian Vane got up from his seat. He looked really disgusted. He said to Davis, "You told me she was not very smart, Davis. You wasted my time with this." Then Sebastian Vane just walked out without looking back at Mark, and Mark was all alone now.

Evelyn, wait, Mark shouted loud at the ceiling. We can talk about this thing he said. I was just trying to get my stuff, the things that belonged to me, Mark said.

I told Mark that nothing was ever really his. He was someone who was helping me, and I forgot to let him go.

The doors burst open. The police walked into the room. Mark was completely broke he was. Now Mark was going back to a cell.
