Though people think the spirits to be bodiless powers, they take on bodies at the border between the worlds. Anyone who sets foot on the Path of Thunder ought to keep this in mind. Weapons here must be wielded in a different way or they might not be any use at all, and the same holds for conventional techniques of war. Conventional approaches assume that any battle consists of wounding the bodies of one’s foes, whether it be an animal or a man. But those who dwell along the Path of Thunder have bodies quite different from earthly beings, and therefore encountering them brings the traveler on the path one more foe, bodiless but powerful, which hounds him from his first step to his last.
