NINA'S POV I stormed away from Zane with my heart hammering in my chest. The trees blurred past me, my legs moving faster than I intended, but I didn’t stop. I thanked him. I had gotten my answer. So why did I feel worse than before? The ache in my chest only grew the farther I walked. His indifference shouldn’t have hurt. It shouldn’t have mattered. But it did. I wasn’t stupid. I knew Zane was calculated, that every move he made was measured and precise. He wasn’t the kind of man who acted on emotions, not when logic was more useful. But there was a part of me… a part that I didn’t want to admit… had hoped for more.
