Becoming An Adventurer

Shin with Ben entered the guild hall.

It was very crowded in there.

Seeing so many people gathered at one place Shin said " Wow... so many people!...Are they all adventurers?"

Ben replied " Yes, most of them are. There are also merchants from various parts of the world, trying to get their hands on the best and rare goods the adventurers bring back from their expedition, and also there are people here to make bounty requests."

Shin's interest piqued.

"Bounty request ?!" he asked

"There..." pointing his finger at the big board placed at the left corner of the hall, Ben replied.

"There is where the request people make to the guild, are placed as bounties. The requests may range from clearing out weaker goblins attacking a farm to hunting down huge fire breathing dragons. After you choose an appropriate request from the board, you report it to the lady over there. If you are eligible, she will approve and you can start your work. Some missions require a party and some missions chosen may be very dangerous for the adventurer's level, so that person who gives approval is very strict in her decisions."

Shin looked at the lady seated a few meters away from the bounty board. She seems all noisy and was scolding some people around her. He got this feeling of never wanting to mess with her.

Ben started moving forward towards a particular direction. Shin followed him. He was looking at all those people around him. Each and everyone present there got different expressions on their faces. Some looked to be in very serious discussions, and some others were just chilling and laughing out loud.

As they walk, Ben continued

"Adventuring is the best job to earn easy money in this world. You are the sole owner of whatever you hunt and get. Well however it is also the most dangerous job. Countless adventurers are reported dead every year. Even so, there is no decrease in the amount of people who want to get out there and hunt, mainly due to the quick money grab. And if you are able to get into one of the elite guilds...its double the profit, respect and money."  Ben gave a little wink at Shin ending his words.

Shin felt kinda excited. He, for a moment forgot about all the problems on his head.

Ben stopped walking, near a man, who seems to be of the beastmen race. He got the head of a crow and the body of a normal human being. He was wearing a butler's black outfit and was brushing off the dust from a painting nailed on the wall.

Ben called out to him " Oi...Patrick..."

The guy turned around and asked " Oh..Who are you sir?..Have we met before?"

Ben removed his hood a little and said " It's me Patrick.."

Seeing and identifying the face under the hood, the beastmen guy bowed very respectfully.

He said " Oh..., lord Benjamin, please pardon this fool for not being able to identify you instantly"

Ben suddenly interrupted" Hey.... keep it down, will ya? I am undercover at the moment"

Patrick replied " I understood my lord, please follow me"

Patrick took both of them to his office upstairs.

On the way Patrick asked Ben " So my lord, what took you here on this fine day?...It has been years since you last visited the adventurers guild, if I remember correctly."

Making sure there is no one around, Ben removed his hood completely and replied " Ahhh...well you see...many things happened. Today I am here for this guy over here"

Patrick turned his head around, looked at Shin and smiled gently at him. Shin also responded with a little smile.

They reached Patrick's office. Shin and Ben were seated, and Patrick was serving them tea.

Ben introduced Patrick to Shin.

" This man here is Patrick Kava, the chief of adventurers guild and the second in command of all the affairs related with the guild after the central association."

Shin was surprised to hear, Patrick was an actual big shot, despite his look as a common butler.

Patrick laughed and said " Hahaha... it is an honour to be praised highly by a hero such as youself, lord Benjamin...So,...what is it that I can do for you sir?"

Ben with a little seriousness in his voice replied " See... this boy here is like a little brother to me. He is really interested in becoming an adventurer. So I thought, I will lend him some guidance on joining the Adventurers guild"

Patrick looked at Shin and said " That is a wise choice kid. So, what is your name?"

Shin was about to reply to that question " Sh..."

But Ben interrupted and said " Ivan...Ivan weasel"

Patrick was surprised by the sudden answer from Ben. Shin as well. He couldn't help but make a weird smile on his face and shake his head approving Ben's answer.

Patrick rose from his seat and said " Ok then I will prepare the documents for that right away. But before that..."

Patrick pulled out a green coloured crystal from the box on a nearby table.

He asked Shin to put one of his hand on the crystal.

Shin identified the crystal being similar to the one Ryugen Den had in Hawkwar town, which was used to analyze his power.

Seeing Shin in doubt, Patrick said " No worries Ivan...This crystal is to assess the power level of Adventurers. The more power you hold, the more brighter the crystal shines"

Shin placed his hand on the crystal and did made sure it was not the tattooed hand.

The crystal glowed slightly.

Patrick looked at it and said " mmm...I think he is of E level for now"

Shin asked "E level?"

Patrick took the crystal back to the box. He replied to Shin " Oh sorry I didn't told you about the different class levels...There are totally six levels, starting from the lowest

level E called collector class

level D called rookie class

level C called beginner class

level B called expert class

level A called master class

and finally

level S called grand master class."

" And missions are assigned based on which class you are in " Ben added.

Patrick prepared the documents for Shin's entry as an adventurer. He handed over the document to Shin and said.

" Here please put your thumb impression at the bottom of the document, Ivan"

Shin looked at Ben. Ben was smiling giving off approval to do so.

After putting the thumb impression, he asked what it was said on the document as he cannot understand the language.

Patrick took the document from Shin's hand and replied " Actually it is an agreement, in which it states that if you die out there then it wont be the responsibility of the guild "

Shin was kinda shocked hearing this. He looked at Ben. But Ben was looking at somewhere else like he heard nothing.

Patrick handed over Shin's adventurers license.

After a little bit of chit chat, it was time for the duo to take their leave from Patrick's office.

Ben thanked Patrick for his time and help. Because this process usually take too much time and happens at the front desk of the guild hall.

Patrick replied " Lord Benjamin, you don't have to thank me. How can I ever put down a humble request from your side. It was my great pleasure of being any use to you "

Ben was walking towards the door, but suddenly stopped, turned around and told Patrick " And Patrick, please keep this a secret okk? Never let anyone know I was here "

Patrick bowed his head down " Ofcourse, my lord, I understood"

Shin and Ben left the room. Ben put on the hood covering his head.

As they were walking, Shin's mind was overflowing with thoughts regarding the class he is assigned 'collector'.

As per Patrick explained, it is a class which act mainly as a support character in a party. They have no permission to do missions solo. And if within one week, have a person under collector class not completed atleast one mission successfully with a party, his license will be cancelled and cannot apply for it in a certain period of time.

As they were walking, aiming for the front door,

Ben asked " i***t, why were you about to tell your real name?...You are wanted individual all over Azgal at the moment"

Shin replied " Sorry, I was careless brother."

Ben warned him " You should be more careful. Adventurers are most likely never suspected by the imperial guards. But still that doesn't mean you are completely safe. Always keep your ears and eyes open."

After walking for sometimes Shin and Ben exited the guild building through the main door.
