Chapter Twelve

1036 Words
---ONE MONTH LATER--- MADISON'S POV I stuffed my hands in my pockets to keep warm in the freezing, early November air. I waited for Liam to pick me up from the library that closed 15 minutes ago. I knew he had a meeting, but I didn't expect it to take this long. I sighed and walked down the empty street. Everything was silent and still and then I heard it. A loud animal-like growl ripped through the silence. I saw blood-red eyes staring at me from the woods a few feet away. I let out an ear-piercing scream and turned to run, but I was too late. The wolf had pounced. LIAM'S POV I heard the scream, and before I could register what was happening, I was speeding down the street. I got there in 10 minutes to see police blocking off the street. People stood around watching the scene, and then I smelled it, and it made Kamden go into a frenzy. The blood. Madison's blood. I ran past the yellow tape when hands stopped me. "This is a crime scene," A deputy said. "I see that." I said, pushing him off of me. "Hey!" Sheriff Montgomery yelled, walking over to me. He grabbed me by my collar, roughly pushing me back. "You get the hell out of here. It's a crime scene." "She's my mate!" I yell whispered. "This happened because of you." He said, hatred dripping from his words. "You leave now or—" "Or what?" I challenged. "Joey!" I heard Luna Foster yell. "You release him right now!" "Give me one reason why I shouldn't send a silver bullet through his heart right now." "Joey." Alpha Foster's voice boomed. "Release him." He shoved me away, and I glared at him before turning to face the Alpha. "You listen and you listen well. If I see you so much as look at my daughter, I will kill you and won't think twice about it. You stay the hell away from her. Now leave!" I involuntarily followed his order. I walked back to my car and slammed the door shut. I noticed two officers talking. I rolled down the window. "...she's being sent to Clifton Medical. Poor girl doesn't look too good." One of them said. "Looks like she was attacked by a wolf." The other said. Rogues in my territory. I growled at the thought. 'Kyle, call a meeting. Everyone who's on patrol meet at the eastern border in 30 minutes.' I growled through mind link. 'Okay. Wha—' I shut him out after that and sped to the hospital. --- I walked in, immediately finding the person I was looking for. "Hey, Maggie. You look wonderful tonight." I said with a smile. "Liam, what are you doing here?" She asked. "I need a favor." "What is it?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. "I need to see a patient." "Who?" "Madison Foster." She started to type in the computer but stopped. "Can't allow that. Her parents have her locked down in a separate wing. Only doctors are allowed." "I need to see her, just a glance to make sure she's okay. She's my mate." I whispered. "I'm sorry. I could lose my job." "You can come and work at the pack hospital where you belong. Please." She looked at me with sad green eyes shaking her head. "I just can't, but I know how she can heal faster and get out of here." "How?" "Your blood. I can draw your blood and transfuse it into her system." I nodded. "Let's do it." Ya see, Maggie was a family friend. She used to be me and Nathaniel's nanny. Nate was my older brother. He went missing when I was 9. He was 10. We were on a family vacation in the mountains. We were racing through the woods and when I came out he wasn't there like I had expected. The pack spent three years trying to sniff him off but couldn't. He just disappeared. "There," Maggie said. "That's enough to heal her completely and stop her pain within a week." "Thanks, Maggie." I said. She smiled and pinched my cheeks. "You've grown into a fine, young Alpha." I smiled and suddenly remembered the meeting. "I gotta go. Keep me updated." --- I walked through the woods, coming to a stop in the center of 30 of my men. "Tonight, someone was attacked by a rogue." I announced. "A human." They all exchanged looks. "Someone important to me and this pack. My mate." I heard a few speeding heartbeats. "Now, how a rogue got onto my territory is beyond me, but it's clear one of you weren't doing your job." "Liam, I made sure everyone was at their post tonight," Kyle said. "The rouge entered through this very border. Everyone couldn't have possibly been at their post." Nick said, walking up. "This is a Pack meeting," Kyle said. "I am the original beta. I believe I have a say." Kyle growled and I looked at him. He silenced. "Continue." I said to Nick. "As I was saying, everyone couldn't have been doing their job." He looked at Jonathan. "How about you, Johnny?" "What?" He asked in shock. "This is your area, yet you were the last to arrive." "I didn't- You told me-" He looked at me. "Alpha, I—" In wolf speed, I had him pinned to a tree by his throat. "Did you or did you not leave your post?" I growled. "I- I—" "Stop babbling and speak!" I yelled. "Yes. But—" "Kill him." I said, dropping him and turning to walk away. "No!" Kyle yelled, making me stop and turn to face him. "What?" I asked. He dared to go against my orders. "This isn't his fault. If anything, it's yours. You're the one who led the battles to s*******r innocent packs. Of course they're gonna try to—" I growled, instantly shutting him up. "You have no right to question anything I do." I growled. "Just hear his side." "I'm not interested. If you don't want him dead, then throw him in a cell and let him rot." I said, walking away.
