KYLE'S POV
I sat in front of Jonathan, who still looked petrified by last week's events.
"I swear I didn't know that Maddy would get hurt." He said.
"So why'd you leave?" I asked.
"Nick told me that the Alpha changed my station and that he was going to take over. I left and next thing I know all this is happening."
"So Nick was already there. It was a set-up." I felt myself getting angry. "I knew something was off about him!"
---
"Oh good you both are here." I said, walking into his office.
"What do you want, Kyle?" Liam asked, annoyed.
"I've been looking into the rouge attack thing and I talked to Johnny. He said Nick told him that you said you were changing his post so that Nick could watch the eastern border."
"Why on earth would I-"
"Shut up." I told Nick. "I knew we shouldn't have trusted you."
"Kyle, don't waste my time if you don't have proof," Liam said.
"Proof? Madison was the one who showed Johnny mercy when you wanted to kill him for coming here. She has good judgment of character and you know it. He wouldn't put her life in danger."
"Well, of course you'd blame me for Madison getting attacked," Nick said, standing up. "After all, I am an easy target. I dislike humans, everyone knows that, but I'd never do anything to harm her. She's the mate of my best friend. I wouldn't cross him." Although his speech sounded sincere, I didn't trust him.
"Kyle," Liam said. "you're lucky I'm letting him stay alive. Don't go around accusing people without proof."
"But you-"
"Jonathan not being there before I showed up is all the proof I need."
I shook my head and chuckled. "You're so naive. You'll trust your "friend" over your beta." I turned to walk out. "By the way, Maddy was released from the hospital." With that I walked out before he could ask questions.
MADISON'S POV
I followed after my dad. "Is this really necessary?" I asked, walking past the men bringing boxes in.
"It's 100% necessary, Madison. You could've been killed." He answered.
"But I wasn't. Mom, can you please talk some sense into him." I said looking at her.
"Sweetie, he's right. You could've died. You're lucky to only have an injured wrist." She said.
"But it's not his fault."
"He has enemies." My dad said.
"So do you. You've killed people and he has killed people. How is he any different?"
My dad spun around with an angry expression on his face. "The difference is I can protect you and he can't! So yeah, I have enemies, but no one has ever gotten hurt because of them!" He yelled.
"You're a hypocrite!" I yelled back and stomped off to my room. I slammed the door and sat on my bed.
"Maddy," my mom said softly, coming in. She shut the door and walked over to me. "I understand you're upset with him, but he's doing what he thinks is necessary for your protection."
"Well, he's keeping me from my mate and invading my privacy. I don't need people babysitting me. I'm fine."
"Someone tried to kill you. Who knows what they'll do next? I know it'll be difficult but stay away from Liam for a little while. For his sake."
I sighed and nodded. I figured that if I stayed away from Liam long enough my dad would let the people go away. She kissed my forehead and left my room. They were renting me a condo not far from my school. It was nice, and I found out Josh lived right upstairs, so I wouldn't be completely lonely.
The condo had two bedrooms and two baths. A spacious living room and a big kitchen. A white couch sat in the living room with red throw pillows. A black coffee table was in front of it with a few magazines. A flat screen TV hung on the wall above the fireplace. A few paintings hung in the hallway. My room also had a flat screen TV. There was a desk in the corner with my books on it. I had a queen-sized bed with red pillows and a white quilt. A black nightstand was beside my bed with a white lamp sitting on it. The floors were black, smooth wood that was sure to make my feet cold in the mornings.
It was nine at night when everyone finally left, but I knew my dad had people watching me. I sat on the couch reading a book when someone knocked on the door. I got up and answered it to see Josh standing there. "Hey." I said.
"Hey," he said with a smile. "I heard you won't be back in school for another week so I collected all your work that you missed and is gonna miss and here." He handed a semi-thick folder.
"Thanks." I said, taking it.
"You're welcome and if you need any help I'm upstairs."
"Actually, are you free right now?" I asked.
"Yeah."
"I'd really like to get some of this done now."
"Of course." I moved out of the way and let him in. "Woah. Your place looks way better than mine." He said, looking around.
I smiled and said thanks. He helped me until around 1 in the morning. I had two sheets left, and he said he'd come by to check them in the morning. I thanked him and escorted him out. I yawned and locked the door before turning off the light. I walked down the hall to my room. I turned off the light and climbed into bed. Feeling snuggly and warm under my blanket, quickly drifting asleep.
