LIAM'S POV
I paced back and forth. Hearing that Madison was out of the hospital made me even more anxious. Her number had changed, and I had absolutely no idea where she was. The college campus was guarded by Alpha Foster's men so it was impossible to even get a glimpse at her. I overheard some students talking about some guy named Josh having a party tonight. I remembered Madison mentioning him, so I knew for a fact she'd be there.
"... 215 Lennox Rd. At Josh's friend, Kevin, house." One of the girls said.
I rolled up the window and smiled. Looks like I'm going to a party tonight.
---
Music blasted as I walked up to the front door. People hung out outside, mingling and some made out. I pushed past the crowd of people when I was stopped.
"Hey there handsome. Wanna have some fun?" A disgusting blonde slurred. I pushed her out of the way and kept walking.
"I have to go to the bathroom," I heard an angelic voice say. I spun around to see Madison handing a cup to the Josh guy and move through the crowd of people to the stairs. She walked up the stairs and I followed behind. When I reached the top, I saw her closing a door. I smiled. She came out moments later, and I pulled her into a room and kissed her. She roughly pushed me away. "What are you doing here?" She asked, looking around.
"I wanted to see you," I said with a frown. Why isn't she happy to see me?
"You can't be here. You have to leave. Now."
"I haven't seen you in nearly a month."
"You weren't supposed to. I can't be around you. All you cause is trouble. I should've listened to my dad when he told me not come back." Her words were like a silver knife to my heart. "I don't want to see you, just stay away from me." Kamden howled in pain. She turned and walked away.
"Madison." I grabbed her wrist and she ripped it away from me.
"Don't touch me!" She yelled, holding her wrist. She quickly walked downstairs back to the party, leaving me there in pure and utter shock.
MADISON'S POV
I instantly hated myself for hurting him. I didn't mean a word I said. He just popped up so unexpectedly and my dad had people watching me. I went home right after that for two reasons: I had a sickening feeling in my stomach from what I said, and my wrist was hurting because he grabbed it.
"You're back early." Mom said as I walked into to living room. She turned to face me. "Have you been crying?"
"He came to the party." I said, feeling another tear run down my cheek. "Liam came."
"Oh, honey. Come here." I sat next to her. She pulled me into her arms.
"I- I told him to stay away from me. I don't want dad to hurt him. That was the hardest thing I ever had to do." I sobbed into her chest.
"I know. Shh... it's okay." She rocked me until I calmed down. "Why don't you go laid down?"
I nodded and got up, walking to my room.
---
"You should've seen her. She was crying. This has gone on long enough!" I heard my mom yell whispered as I dragged my tired body to the front.
"She could've-"
"She didn't, James. She's alive. Can you imagine the pain she felt telling him that?" They were arguing about me.
"Madison." My dad called from the kitchen. I walked into the kitchen and he sighed. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have tried to keep you away from him. I just wanted to protect you." He said sincerely.
"It doesn't matter." I said making a cup of tea. "He probably hates me now."
"Sweetie, you can go and talk to him. I'm sure he doesn't." My mom said.
"It'll be a waste of time. Thanks mom, for trying to help, but I think I'll just go back to bed." I said and walked away with my tea.
LIAM'S POV
I sat on the couch, lazily flipping through channels. Her scent was everywhere in this house but less so in the living room. I tried not to think about her but my wolf wasn't allowing that. Someone knocked on the door and I got up to answer it. Before I even reached the door, I felt the powerful presence. I swung the door open and came face to face with Alpha Foster. "Alpha Foster," I said. "to what do I owe this pleasure?"
He narrowed his eyes at me and gently pushed me aside and walked in. "We need to talk." He said, his voice ringing with authority.
"About?" I said, closing the door.
"My daughter."
"She already told me to stay away from her. You don't need-"
"Are you gonna let me speak or are you gonna do all the talking?"
I fought the urge to be disrespectful. He was a higher ranking Alpha than me and the father of my mate. So either way, I couldn't disrespect him. I walked back into the living room and he followed behind me. I sat on the couch and turned off the TV.
He sat across from me and began. "Madison isn't supposed to have a mate. Though, I'm guessing that's what Kelly's father thought too. I've experienced first hand what having a human mate is like. The enemies, the pregnancies, everything. I don't want to lose my daughter and I know you think you can protect her but trust me when I say you can't. The best thing you can do is protect her from yourself." He paused in deep thought before continuing.
"It doesn't matter what you do, people will try to kill her. The secret is out and all your enemies know your weakness and when she's pregnant it'll be worse. I'm sure people have told you not to mate her. Am I correct?"
"Yes. Something about her not being able to carry the child." I replied.
He nodded. "When Kelly was pregnant for the first time, I was the happiest man alive. Every Alpha needs a heir. But she started having complications and lost the baby. She wanted to try again so we gave it a few months and tried again. It was a successful pregnancy, she carried Tyler a full 7 months." He smiled for a second.
"She suffered three miscarriages prior to Madison. Her pregnancy with Maddy was tough. She was sick a lot, she broke a few ribs. She was so close to dying and would've if they didn't get the baby out in time. She was all of 5 months pregnant when that happened. The doctor said Maddy probably wouldn't live. We discovered she was human because she was different from Tyler. She was so fragile and little. I've always felt the need to protect her and I still do.
"Which is why I'm bringing some of my best fighters here to help train and protect your pack and my daughter. You now have the full alliance and protection of my pack. And since I'm gonna have to learn to deal with you, I'm looking forward to having you around." He extended his hand and I shook it. "Now, take me to this person who allowed this rogue in to attack my daughter."
