It felt like the world stopped as she stopped breathing, basking in the pale of his beautiful eyes, frowning at her with a piercing eye, a scowl formed on his chiseled lips.
It was Jeremy, before she had the chance to speak again, Jeremy interrupted, “
"I don't want you to be close to me” His harsh words pierced her heart, making her melt inside in humiliation.
“Am sorry” she said with her head bowed low, she shyly walked away, leaving him standing and wishing he had said more to her.
She was led into a room where the lawyers sat. Rachel and Jeremy were meant to sign the papers which she could be officially sold to the devil to devour.
The occasion was honored by only a few friends and close family members, who were invited to witness the union.
She read the contents of the marriage contract and was a bit relieved. It stated that they would stay married for two years and, afterward, they could go their separate ways if they wished.
“Fine by me” she murmured. Marriage wasn't on her life list, and even if she should stay in marriage it should be with the man she loved and loved her in return.
After her encounter with him, she wished it was shorter, but for the time being, she was glad she was not spending the rest of her life with a man who hated her so much.
Although she admired Jeremy a lot, she couldn't stand being looked down on by him. She fought her thoughts all the time when she thought of him.
The occasion was private and unromantic, unceremonious, which made her feel she was being sold to the highest bidder. They exchanged rings, and signed the papers,
Rachel could not get her eyes off the beautiful, alluring sparkles on her fingers, this must cost a fortune, she murmured under her breath, she hadn't seen anything like this in her all her life.
It was designed by the finest designer in the country, and to think it cost more than she could think of, for a fake marriage. Why would they spend money on a ring like this, she thought to herself. Wilson always goes for the best of everything.
Jeremy cast a gaze at her, he saw how she was admiring the ring. Could she be weirder? He thought to himself, of course, a gold digger like her could easily be carried away by expensive things. He only saw her as one of the city girls always after his attention and money. She must have bribed her way into his mother's heart by being the only girl out of thousands his mother approved of marriage with.
The ceremony came to an end with the couple taking pictures with the invited press only.
The family was very private and was in control of their lifestyle. They could sell any story and the public would buy it. Apart from being wealthy and influential, they were also loved in the city for being charitable.
Rachel stood beside Jeremy to take some shots, she smiled so beautifully, and turned to every side. Her attention was needed.
“You both look perfect together,” a lady from the press said.
“Thank you so much”. Rachel replied,
Jeremy threw a glance at Rachel, he saw her smile, and it reminded him of his old-time friend.
That smile looks so familiar, he thought".
“But who? He couldn't think of anyone at the moment,
His best friend Ryan interrupted his thought,
“Congratulations man,” Ryan said.
Don’t congratulate me on my fake marriage bro, he said in a low tone, and the two burst out in laughter.
Rachel glanced towards Jeremy, who was busy having a conversation with his best friend Ryan. She recognized Ryan as a guy she often saw around him, although they hadn't been introduced officially.
Her life was changing very fast, she felt like she didn't have control of it any longer, she had just got married to a man who didn't like her, who saw her as someone not worthy of being with him, she felt weak if only she had family or someone to rely on, she wouldn't be in this position, an orphan in this big city, struggling non-stop to keep her only sister alive.
Rachel loves her sister so much, that they share an inseparable bond. Growing up was tough for both of them, but they survived by holding on to each other. Rachel has a very enduring personality. Her struggles in life gave her the urge to face the world fearlessly. She has taken life and what it has given to her, she has learned to be strong and determined. She became strong and independent from an early age,
The accident affected her in a very harsh way. Most of her early memories were missing, and she couldn't remember anything before the accident. Her sister was 3 at the time. No one found anything that could link to their family, not even a name, which was odd. They were taken away to an orphanage home immediately, after weeks of no claim on them or finding any evidence to be linked to them.
Rachel needed fresh air, being around these people made her nervous and unsettled, with no one paying any attention to her, she decided to take a walk through the garden. She made her way through the garden admiring the flowers and different colors of roses, and tiny light bulbs illuminating around them. It was close to midnight and the moon was out and full.
She inhaled the beautiful fragrance of the roses, and suddenly she started having flashes in her mind. A little girl running through the garden wasn't much clearer to her, it was a blur that made her head ache so much as she tried to control her thoughts, she held a part of her head with her right hand, she was losing her balance, trying to hold on to something, the episode continued for some minutes till her body couldn't take it anymore it gave in and she fell,
Before her body could reach the floor, a hand held her from behind, preventing her from reaching the floor. She managed to open her eyes, which were blurred, and she saw a beautiful face, looking directly into her eyes. He was holding her up, his lips were moving in slow motion, she couldn't hear anything at the moment as her body became weak and she passed out.
Her past was coming back to her, but no matter how hard she tried, she still couldn't put them together. She had dreams of the same girl, playing with a boy in the garden, running while holding hands.
She couldn't explain it as she didn't have most of her childhood memories from 7 years downwards, she had no one to explain it to.
She wondered who her real parents were, and how they were alone in the world. She was told she had an accident, and she lost her memory, but no one told her who her real parents were. The more she tried to find out, the more complicated it got.
She decided to let it go until she had enough money to hire private investigators to find out where she came from.
