"Mr.Anderson" The doctor greeted as Dean shook his hand.
"Doctor Reese" Dean acknowledged before sitting.
The grey haired doctor sat down on his leather chair and adjusted his slim rectangular glasses that were beginning to slip from his face.
"I'm glad that you've decided to visit" The doctor said and eyed the man before him skeptically. He watched as he showed no regard for the building he was in. Cigarette between his lips. He looked very unkempt and if not for the fact that he hadn't stepped into the hospital since the accident, he would've had him escorted out immediately
Dean grunted and took a drag out of his cigarette
"Wasn't by choice" It baffled Dr. Reese how two years could change a man. It was a long time, that he agreed on but when a person you are in love with is involved, he just couldn't bring himself to fathom the fact that he was here, seated in front of him, as calm as the sea.
Not rushing, caring, crying like he used to two years ago.
He knew he hadn't given up, he would have given them the permission to pull the plug a long time ago if he had. Dean was disturbed, his mind was all over the place, anyone that would see him would know. From the heavy bags underneath his eyes, to the careless way he walked all down to the way he talked. One would know that he was on the verge of giving up
"But you're still here" The doctor knew what it was like to lose someone, after all, it was his fault his daughter died.
He shook the memory off, not wanting to put himself in a position he tried so hard to bring himself out of.
"As you know" He began "Ms. Davis's condition isn't getting any better. As doctors we are trying our best to help improve her situation. We saw some improvements but now, her body is refusing the drugs we give her. Her blood count is dropping rapidly and at this point, it seems her body is shutting down for-"
Deans fist made harsh contact with the Doctors table causing the old man to flinch slightly but over it up. Dean played with the doctors name plate as he took out the light from his cigarette.
"How long have you been a doctor Reese?" The question was simple, he had been asked this so many times by different people yet when it slipped from the mans mouth in front of him, it sounded like a threat
He cleared his throat and answered
"30 years" Dean sat up and looked at the doctor impressed
"That's a long time." He stated "A lot of hard work as well i'm sure" His piercing green eyes continued to bore holes into the doctors blue eyes.
"Yes, and I like to believe I deserve it" A chuckle left Deans lips as he watched as the middle aged mad sat up in his own chair.
"Do you love your job?" The doctor quirked a brow at the young man before him
"Mr.Anderson I don't understand what that question has to do with-"
"I asked you a question" Dean cut the doctor off once again "And when I ask questions, doctor, I expect an answer"
The doctor for the first time in a long time showed fear, not in his stature but in his eyes and Dean reveled in it.
"Yes, if you must know, I do" The response was quick, as if he needed to say it in the space of 2 seconds.
Dean smiled and stared at the family picture that sat proudly on the doctors table. Reese had began to feel weary
"Would you like to keep this job Doctor?" Dean asked and began tracing the rim of the doctors family frame instead. At that point the doctor began to feel like the question was no longer about his job as his eyes followed Deans to his family.
When Dean looked away, so did he.
A bead of sweat ran down his face. "I do" He answered but spoke up once again "If you are trying to threaten me Mr. Anderson, I could report you to-"
"I have diplomatic immunities in 46 countries" The look on the doctors face was priceless "Including Mexico" The doctor was fully sweating now as he understood the gravity of the mans words.
Dean smirked and leaned back in his chair. "This is said to be the best facility and you're said to be the best medical practitioner is that correct?"
"Y-yes it is" If possible, the smirk on Deans face grew wider as he leaned forward with his arms on the table
"And I want the best which means that, if Amelia's condition is worsening as you've so mildly put it. I shouldn't be the one you should call, as a professional, I expect that you know what to do when you are faced with serious conditions like this" The young man stood up and when his eyes met with the doctors, the doctor tried to convince himself that deep down, somewhere hidden in his heart, he still cared.
He watched as Deans eyes drifted back to his family's picture again and he was tempted to slap the frame downwards but he knew better, he was talking to someone who could eliminate his entire family and go scot-free with a blink of an eye.
Instead he stood up and held out his hand which Dean grabbed and squeezed a little too tightly. The doctor groaned in discomfort but managed to hide it with a strained smile. One which Dean returned before letting the mans hands go
"This conversation went on better than I expected" Dean said with a smile before he lit another cigarette. He exhaled the smoke out of his mouth and directly in the doctors face
"Till next time Dr.Reese. Hopefully, this wouldn't be our reason for meeting again, for your sake" He said and walked out.
It was then that the doctor noticed the guards that had arrived and stood outside his door.
Once he saw that the young man was gone, he pressed his intercom and his personal assistant Lily answered
"Yes doctor, how may I-"
"Lily, send a nurse up to room 306, yourself included, I will be with you shortly" He cut her off, knowing she had heard him and picked up his phone next, dialing his wife who picked up at the second ring
"Honey?" The woman on the end of the receiver questioned
"Judith, I need you to pack a bag, for yourself and the kids and move into the house downtown" He spoke and tried to hide the fear in his voice as he gathered some things on his table
"Wh-why? what's wrong Sebastian?" He hated the fact that he planted worry in the depths of his wife's heart but he himself was worried. For all he knew, his call could be being listened to at that very moment.
The thought caused his heart to clench.
He felt like he were about to have a heart attack
"Just do what I say, I will meet you there." He said in a rush
"But-"
"Now Judith" Sebastian said sternly and ended the call.
He grabbed his lab coat and rushed to the room where the sleeping girl lay.
As he gazed at her, he felt guilt grip him. What he was about to do was illegal, she could die, could he live with that?
No, but at the same time, he wasn't going to let someone threaten him and his family when he was practically in charge of their own.
He walked to the metal tray that one of the nurses held in her hands and picked up the syringe.
Alprazolam and diazepam were two drugs one should never ever mix. These drugs were only administered to patients with anxiety and insomnia.
Defects that Amelia did not possess, which even if she did, she would be given only one of those drugs, not the combination of the two.
Lily watched with fearful eyes as the syringe in the doctors hand imbibed half the contents of the drugs.
The frail nurse never spoke but this time she found the need to
"Doctor?" She asked "Surely, these two are not meant to be joined together?" Sebastian's footsteps halted and he turned to the nurse who instantly regretted speaking when she saw the look in the doctors eyes.
"Look who paid attention in class after all" The sarcasm dripped from his voice with ease and the nurse didn't dare to speak after that, just watched.
The other nurse felt she was on an episode of Grey's Anatomy. She didn't even know why she was summoned.
Sebastian took Amelia's hand in his and injected the contents into her blood stream.
The drugs, popularly known as Xanax and Valium respectively would cause her muscles to relax.
The problem was, Amelia's muscles needed no help in being relaxed, after all, her body had been idle for two years.
