Temple Captain Florence had arrived the day before the two companies, and set up the practice field to accommodate them.
Charlaine met with all three of her captains that evening, the better to acquaint them with her intentions. She spoke not of infiltrating Halvaria but of increasing the size and frequency of their patrols. The Temple Knights were to become more aggressive, taking a hard line against any intrusions.
“And how long is this to continue?” asked Florence.
“Until further notice,” replied Charlaine. “The intention is to blind their army. Any sign of intrusion is to be dealt with swiftly.”
“Are you suggesting we attack them?”
“Have they not ambushed us on occasion?”
“Aye, they have,” replied Florence. “And their attempts cost us three wounded knights over the last month.”
