Chapter 21 JACK PRESENTED HIMSELF at Vallentyn House at ten o’clock sharp the following morning. This time he’d donned his new morning suit. He hadn’t been too sure he’d get much use out of the new clothes his father had insisted on purchasing for him—taking him to his own tailor for over-priced, over-fashionable clothes—but now he was happy he’d given in to the old man’s insistence. Just like the last time, the footman didn’t even bat an eyelash when Jack told him he wished to see Miss Haveland, nor did he ask for a calling card or even his name. “May I know the nature of your call, sir?” the footman asked instead.
