Chapter 6: The Billionaire's Secret Weapon

702 Words
I froze in the doorway, my bag slipping from my fingers. The man stood up slowly, his eyes never leaving my face. They were the exact same shade of dark brown as mine, crinkling at the corners when he smiled—a smile that felt both familiar and completely foreign. "Su Nian," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "My daughter." My mother rushed over, taking my hand and leading me into the living room. "He never abandoned us, baby. The Lin family forced him to go overseas and cut off all contact. They told me he had married a foreign heiress and forgotten about us. He's been looking for us every single day for twenty years." Tears streamed down her face as she told me the truth. How my father had been kidn*pped and sent to New York to settle a family debt. How he had fought his way to the top of Wall Street, building a billion-dollar empire from nothing, all while searching for us. How he had finally tracked us down just three days ago. "I'm so sorry," he said, stepping forward hesitantly, as if afraid I would push him away. "I missed your first steps, your first day of school, your graduation. I missed everything. I know I can never make up for those twenty years, but I want to spend the rest of my life making it up to you and your mother." He pulled a stack of documents from his briefcase and slid them across the coffee table. "This is a penthouse in the city center, and full ownership of three tech companies. And this black card has two billion dollars on it. It's all yours. Whatever you want, whenever you want it." I stared at the papers in shock. Two billion dollars. I had never even seen ten thousand dollars in cash before. I pushed the documents back to him. "I can't take this. Mom and I have been fine on our own. We don't need your money." His face fell, but he nodded understandingly. "I know. I don't expect you to forgive me overnight. But please, let me help you. Is there anything you want? Anything at all? If someone is bothering you, if someone is hurting you—just say the word." His voice was gentle, but there was an undercurrent of steel beneath it—the voice of a man who had built an empire through sheer force of will. I thought of Lu Chen. Of the way he had been humiliated in front of the entire company. Of his stolen project, his empty office, the loneliness in his eyes when he said he would be truly alone if I left. Before I could stop myself, the words spilled out. "There is someone. My boss, Lu Chen. He's the most talented person I've ever met, but everyone in the company is against him. They steal his projects, frame him for things he didn't do, and treat him like garbage. He doesn't deserve any of this." My father's eyes narrowed slightly. A calculating look crossed his face, the look of a man who had just identified a problem to be solved. "I see," he said, his voice cold. "They're bullying my daughter's friend. That won't stand. Don't worry, Su Nian. I'll handle this. By tomorrow morning, all their little games will be over." He picked up his phone and stepped out onto the balcony, speaking in low, rapid tones. I couldn't hear what he was saying, but I could see the determination in his posture. That night, I lay awake in bed, thinking about everything that had happened. My father, the billionaire. Lu Chen, the fallen heir. And the war that was about to break out at StarPath Tech. I had no idea how much my father's help would change things. Or how quickly Lu Hongyuan would strike back. At three in the morning, my phone rang shrilly. It was the security guard from the R&D department, his voice panicked and breathless. "Su Nian! You have to come back right now! Auditors and lawyers have surrounded the entire department! They're saying Lu Chen embezzled millions of dollars, and they're going to arrest him!"
