CHAPTER FIFTEEN: UNSPOKEN FEARS

330 Words
Chapter 15: Unspoken Fears Victor’s voice cut through the darkness. “No loose ends, Angelo. Find him before he talks.” Back at the mansion, Isabella woke to find Dante seated by her bed, a look of exhaustion on his face. The room was dimly lit, the scent of fresh flowers mixing with the faint trace of antiseptic. Isabella’s throat was dry, and the ache in her heart heavier than ever. She opened her mouth to speak, but Dante beat her to it. “I almost lost you,” he murmured, his gaze never leaving hers. A lump formed in her throat. She should confess — about Ethan, about everything — but fear choked her words. If I tell him, he’ll kill Ethan. Or me. Instead, she forced a small smile. “I’m sorry.” Dante reached out, brushing his fingers along her hand. “I don’t care what you’ve done. Or who you were before this. You’re mine now, Isabella. You and our child.” Isabella’s heart twisted. Our child. The lie she was trapped in was suffocating. Outside, one of the guards knocked and entered. “Boss, Victor’s asking for you. Urgent.” Dante frowned. “Stay here. Rest.” As soon as he left, Isabella’s phone buzzed on the nightstand. A message from Ethan: “We’re close. The money will be ours soon. Stay strong. I love you.” Tears pricked her eyes. She stared at her reflection in the window, a stranger trapped in a dangerous game. Downstairs, Victor paced the study, his jaw tight. “There’s a traitor in the house. A worker overheard us at the docks. He’s missing now.” Dante’s expression turned to stone. “Find him. Silence him. No one threatens my family.” Victor hesitated. “And Isabella?” Dante’s gaze darkened. “Leave her alone. She’s carrying my child.” But deep down, doubt gnawed at Dante… because lies have a way of rotting the heart from the inside.
