Chapter 12: A Life Hanging by a Thread “If you die on me, Isabella, I swear I’ll burn this entire city down.” The car tore through the streets, headlights slicing through the darkness as Dante held her, feeling her heartbeat weaken. “Faster!” he shouted at the driver. His palm pressed against Isabella’s cheek, willing warmth back into her cold skin. “Stay with me, Isabella. Don’t you dare leave me.” Tears threatened to blur his vision — something no one alive had ever seen from Dante Romano. Within minutes, the car screeched to a halt in front of a private clinic. Guards flanked the entrance as Dante stormed inside, cradling her in his arms. “She needs help! Now!” he roared, the walls trembling with the force of his voice. The doctors rushed her into the emergency room. Dante paced the hallway like a caged beast, running a trembling hand through his hair. “What the hell happened to you, Isabella?” he murmured. An hour passed. Every second dragged like a lifetime. Finally, a nurse approached. “Mr. Romano,” she began, eyes wary. “Miss Isabella is stable… and—” “And what?” he barked. “She’s pregnant, sir. About two months.” Dante staggered, the world tilting beneath his feet. Pregnant? His breath caught. Could it be his? He grabbed the nurse’s arm. “She’s going to be fine, right?” “Yes, sir. She needs rest.” Dante nodded, his face hardening as his heart waged a war between rage and an unfamiliar, terrifying tenderness. Back at the mansion, he entered his study, pulled open a drawer, and stared at the evidence he’d gathered against her—the messages, the photographs. His hand hovered over the lighter. His heart whispered one thing: She’s carrying your child. And with one flick of his wrist, the flames consumed every proof of her betrayal. But even as the evidence burned, one man still believed she was a traitor… and he wouldn’t stop until Dante knew the truth.
