CHAPTER FIVE: SUSPICIOUS STIR

Chapter 5: Suspicions Stir And just as she thought she could keep the balance, Dante’s suspicion began to simmer. Dante noticed how Isabella sent the staff away before Ethan appeared. The way she tensed at his questions. The secretive glances between the two. It wasn’t like him to ignore signs. In his world, secrets meant betrayal, and betrayal meant blood. He’d built his empire on instincts sharper than a blade, and Isabella’s nervous smiles were starting to cut. One evening, under the pale moonlight in the vast garden, Dante cornered her near the marble fountain. The air was heavy with the scent of night-blooming flowers, but it did little to calm the storm in his chest. “Why do you hide him from me?” His voice was soft, but there was steel beneath the question. Isabella’s heart raced, the weight of lies pressing on her chest. Her fingers clutched the fabric of her dress as she struggled for air. “It’s complicated,” she whispered. Dante stepped closer, his eyes burning with something fierce and raw. His hand brushed a loose strand of hair from her face. “I don’t like secrets, Isabella. Not from you.” For a heartbeat, she was lost in the depth of his gaze—handsome, dangerous, magnetic. A part of her screamed to confess, to surrender to the man she feared and wanted in equal measure. But the shadow of her oath to Ethan held her back. Before she could answer, a sudden sound echoed from the mansion—a door slamming shut. Dante’s eyes snapped to the darkness. “Someone’s here,” he growled. And in the distance, a figure slipped away, watching their every move.
