Chapter seventeen - Having fun with my best friend

Scott's POV:

Last week went well. Most of the time I spent with Ellie, but I need to be more careful. I guess that I can't talk with her in school anymore or not that often. I saw some girls talking with her yesterday and she wasn't happy. Who are they to tell other people what to do? If they think that I'll stop being with Ellie, that won't happen. After all the years that we were separated, I won't leave her again. After what is happening lately, I think that it'll be good for us to go out for a while. I would like to have some fun with my best friend. Since I can't talk with her, I have to text her. 

Currently, I am in class, but who cares. I still will text Ellie. I hope that she can answer me. 

- Ellie, can you text? I know that you are in class, but I need to ask you something?

I waited and waited, but nothing. After ten minutes, she answered me. The good girl is texting in class. That's interesting. 

-  What do you want to ask? Be quick, because I don't want to get caught. 

- I wanted to ask you are you free this afternoon. No isn't an option. 

- Then why are you even asking? What do you have in mind? I'm not much in mood, so it better be something good.

- I think that you'll like it, but you need to trust me. Can you do that?

- I think I can. So what is the plan? Where are we going?

- I can't tell you. It's a surprise, but don't worry, it isn't something bad. Just don't talk about this with anyone. I don't want to happen something like yesterday. 

- Like I have someone to who I can tell this. Don't forget that you are my only friend. 

- That's not true. Noah can be your friend. 

- Yeah, I don't think so. Look, I have to pay attention now, so see you after school. 

- But there is way too much time until then. Whatever, I'll come and get you. I'm giving you one hour if you want to get ready. Not like you need to. After that until midnight, you are mine. 

- Should I be scared? I don't like the idea. 

- Leave this to me. With me, you are safe. Go now before you get detention or something else. 

This was the last thing that I said. The plan was simple. Just to go out with her. Well only as best friends of course. I don't want to give her wrong intentions. Moreover, as I have said, Ellie deserves someone better. For who won't hate her all the girls in school. 

Now I am having lunch with Noah. Ellie said that she has to do something and won't come. Maybe that is better. I don't want her to receive more hate. 

- Scott, what will you do this afternoon? Any plans? If you don't have, we can go out. 

- Yes, we can, but tomorrow. Sorry buddy, but I am busy today. Let's say until the end of the day. Well if I get lucky. 

- Let me guess. Are you going out with Ellie? - he smirked

- Could you say it louder? No one should know about this or she will be in trouble. 

- For what are you talking about? She is your best friend, not your girlfriend. 

- Yes, but girls here think differently. Yesterday I caught Melinda and two of her girls talking with Ellie. They told her to stay away from me or she'll have problems. 

- Why did they say that? Did you do something? 

- I wanted to, but she didn't let me. Later at her house, she showed me a note, which she got in school. It was saying to not tell me. I wasn't supposed to know about this. 

- I don't understand what is their problem with her. If I was a girl and was looking like them, I wouldn't be worried for someone like Ellie. I mean that they are popular and many guys like them. Especially Melinda. 

- Yeah, but how you can see she is interested in only one guy and the worst thing is that the guy is me. - I laughed

- That's what you get for being a bad guy. 

- If she was a little bit more normal, I would give her a chance. Well, I won't date her, but still won't deny going out with her. 

- But now you won't do it, because you have Ellie. 

- Do you really have to mention her in every conversation? She is my best friend and nothing more. 

- Yeah, keep fooling yourself. When will you realize that you don't like her only as a best friend?

- I may be many things, but I am not a liar. Especially when it comes to her. 

- Dude, I have seen the way you look at her. The way you act when someone else is watching her. The way you keep an eye on her even from distance. If you're not doing this from love, then I don't know. 

- You know what? I get tired of listening to the same thing over and over again. I'll call you later. - I got up and left

For the millionth time. I am NOT in love with Ellie. Will he ever stop saying it? I like Noah, but sometimes he can be very annoying. I'll go home, take a shower and get ready. Not like I need much time. I mean look at me. I am awesome. 

After three hours, I went to get Ellie. I knocked on the door and she opened it. When I told her to get ready, I didn't mean that she'll do it for real. Ellie was dressed with a crop top, ripped jeans, and sneakers. I don't think that she has another type of shoes. 

- Are you ready to go? Did you take what you need?

- I think I did. I have no idea where we are going so I took what I think that I'll need. We can go now. 

All the way Ellie was asking me where we are going. I swear she is like a little kid. It's not like I told her. If I say that it's a surprise, it is and I won't spill it out. Even if you make me. 

Soon we arrived where we had to and her eyes got widened. 

- Here we are. What do you think? Do you like my surprise?

- No, I love it. Thank you so much. I haven't been to a carnival... well since you left. I didn't want to go alone. 

- Now I officially will say that it's you and my day. We'll do whatever you want. I am all your whole day. 

- Really? Are you sure? Do I have to wake up the kid in me?

- I would love to see it. It's been a long time since the last time we saw each other. 

- Ok then, let's go. I have to try everything.

Ellie grabbed my hand and pulled me inside. To be honest I haven't been to a carnival since I came here. This is not my style, but for her, I'll do it. She needs to relax more and stop thinking about all the problems that she has. 

- What do you want to try first? You have many options. 

- I want to try the water guns. 

We went there and I paid for one game. I wasn't going to let her pay. First, she is a girl and second this was my idea so I have to take care of everything. This includes her. 

Until we were playing, I aimed the water to g*n and sprayed Ellie with water. She wasn't very happy, but get her revenge. Soon we were spaying each other instead of playing the game. The man who was behind the stand was watching and laughing. What saved her was the time, which we had. 

We decide to eat something before we continue playing. We had to dry as well. 

- Ellie what do you want to eat? There are many places with different food. 

She didn't answer. I guess that she'll play the "I am mad at you" game. If that's what she wants then it's game on. Both of us were walking without talking. I won't give up, but she will and this will be very soon. I see that she wants to tell me something, but she won't do it. I have nothing else to do so I can wait a couple of minutes or maybe an hour. 

Half an hour. Ellie isn't talking to me for half an hour. Did she really get mad for that? C'mon it was just for fun. Sometimes I like her, sometimes I hate her. Now it's the second one. Soon she stopped and sit on a bench. She made a sad face. I don't think that she is pretending anymore. 

- Ellie are you ok? Why do you look so sad? If it's about the game, I'm sorry. I didn't want to hurt you. Will you please talk with me? Are you sure that everything is ok?

- Yes, because I just won and you lost. Who is the loser now? Not me. - she laughed

- Wait a minute! You did all of this to make me say something first?

- Yep and it worked perfectly. I am a genius. 

- And also in trouble. Run, because if I catch you, there is no escaping. 

Like that, she ran to I don't even know where. Of course that I chased her. Ellie is not the best runner. She didn't run five minutes before I catch her. She is so easy. 

- Let me go, you i***t. I need revenge. 

- Who said it? The girl who just lost. I guess that you are the loser now. 

- You will see Lincoln. I would let you escape like that. You will pay me for that. 

- I gladly would like to see how this will happen. 

I decided to let her go and chose the next game. I thought that we'll eat first, but I guess she had other plans. Not like I mind. The plan was to stay here until it's time for dinner. Then to go to one diner for food. Later maybe go for a walk or whatever she wants. 

- Ok miss Jones, what do you want us to do next? Any ideas?

- I get tired of kicking your a*s, so let's do something different. What time is it? I am getting hungry. - she chuckled

- It's almost dinner time. Do you want us to go get some food? 

- It sounds very good mister Lincoln. 

- So now we are on last names. Ok, miss Jones. Whatever you want. I am on your services.

We went to one diner far from the center. I don't want someone from school occasionally to see us. Up to now, our day is perfect and I don't want it ruined. 

We ordered our food and until we are waiting for it, Ellie showed me all the pictures from today. I have to admit that I had fun today. I don't know is it, because she was with me or because I haven't done this in a while. I look bad on almost all, but Ellie had another opinion. 

- Can you not show these pictures everywhere? I look horrible on almost all. 

- If you look horrible that I don't know what to say about myself. 

- That you look amazing and enjoyed my company. 

- And why do I have to lie? If I really enjoyed your company we wouldn't be here sitting and talking. We would be doing something fun. - she chuckled

- Are you sure? You can tell me what you want, but your eyes will always tell me the truth. 

With that, she blushed a little. I didn't want to embarrass her. I got up, took her hand, and made her sit next to me. She looked at me confused but never said anything. 

Soon our food came. Both of us started to eat quickly. You can see that we were hungry. After all these games and fights which we had. I won't lie that I liked it. I wish that we could do that without hiding. I don't see a problem to go have some fun with your best friend. We only were playing, nothing else. 

- We have three hours until midnight, so what do you want us to do next? Or do you want us to stay here?

- No, I don't want to stay here. We can go for a walk if you want. 

- Why I am not surprised? Let's go. I can't get you late home so we better go now. 

We walked around one park, which was close to the diner. It was so quiet and empty. Well, it's late and probably most of the people are at home. I felt her linking her fingers with mine. Ellie does this only when she is scared or feels unprotected. I looked at her and she returned a smile. Maybe she is scared of the dark. To not happen the same as what happened at the party. I decided to not ask. If she wants she'll tell me. I won't force her. 

It is 11:30 pm and we are walking to her house. Probably her parents are already in bed. I hope that we won't wake them up. Or maybe it'll be better if I don't enter. 

- Well that's it for today. It was a very fun day. I would like to repeat it. 

- For me too. Won't you come in? Mom and dad are probably sleeping. 

- That's why I won't. I don't want to wake them up. 

- You can try to be quiet, but it'll be mission impossible for you. - she chuckled

- I will leave you because it got late and we have school tomorrow. I can be late, but you not. 

I was about to go when she stopped me. Did I forget something?

- Before you go... I want to say thank you. I was needing this. You didn't have to waste your time, but you did it and I appreciate that. Thank you for spending the whole day with me. It was really nice of you. Something that I'm sure that the bad boy in you won't do. 

- That's why I didn't bring him with us. We don't need him. 

- Well to be honest I wouldn't mind him, but he is a little bit annoying. I prefer the good and nice guy. 

- Not only you but enough talking for today. You need to go to bed. Moreover, it's getting cold. 

- Yeah, I can feel it. You have to go as well so... - she came closer and kissed my cheek

- What was that for? It's not like I didn't like it. 

- Take as a thank you gift. Now go before it gets late. Well, it already is. Good night and have sweet dreams. 

- After today, I surely will. To you too. Goodnight Ellie. I'll see you tomorrow. 

With that, I left. I had to. Otherwise, I would stay, talking with her until who knows when. That's the thing, which I don't understand. I have talked with many girls, but Ellie is the only one that I can listen to for hours. Maybe because she doesn't talk only for herself or the way she looks or asking me which dress is prettier. 

I walked into my house. I guess that my parents are sleeping as well. I quietly walked into my bedroom and got ready to sleep. When I got in bed the whole day appeared in my head. I haven't had fun like that in a long time. We should do it more often. I forgot how good it was to don't think about anything or anyone and just to have fun with your friends. I need to sleep. Maybe Ellie will appear in some dream. Ok, this day was enough. Let's not force things. I can't wait to see her again tomorrow.
