"Jace, The Dark Wolf Pack has breached our borders again," I heard Shane's tense voice in my mind.
And f**k, their timing couldn't be worse.
I was pumping relentlessly into Stacey, a hot she-wolf from my pack, working towards orgasm, when my Beta mind-linked me about the enemy. Groaning in frustration, I immediately pulled out and ran outside, not bothering with the clothes - or the explanation. That's because as soon as I stepped out, I changed into a big bad wolf.
The air was electric, the anticipation building in my chest. I ran at top speed and reached the place in question in a matter of minutes - one of the perks of being an Alpha. Not only was I the fastest wolf in the pack, but the earth magic worked with me, helping me to protect my land from intruders.
The storm that was brewing all day had finally hit an hour or so ago. So, by the time I arrived, I was drenched, the cold water dripping from my fur.
However, the enemy pack had already left, my warriors on their tail.
Of course. What a bunch of p*****s.
I sniffed around for a few seconds, committing the scent of my enemies to the memory, and then joined the hunt. Mind racing with planning, tactics, and intel from the others while I was flying through the dark forest.
I knew every inch of this land by heart. And as I raced through the familiar landscape, memories of my childhood and my father's teachings filled my mind. He had always emphasized the importance of knowing our territory like the back of our hand, and now I understood why. It gave me an edge in situations like this.
There's no place they could hide from me here. But it's not like they were planning to, anyway.

I joined my warriors and led the hunt. We chased them far away from our territory, and as always, the Dark wolves ran straight into the human town. We, on the other hand, stopped at the edge of the forest, growling in frustration.
Same thing every time.
It's like they are just testing our vigilance and boundaries. They know we are hesitant to enter Misty Vale in our wolf forms, and they are using it as the perfect escape route.
The humans in Misty Vale had no idea about our existence, and we intended to keep it that way. We had managed to coexist peacefully for generations, but one mistake could easily shatter that fragile balance.
However, while we were careful, the Dark assholes and their Alpha couldn't care less about that. They breach our borders and then arrogantly take off into the human inhabitant where they know we won't follow.
What the f**k are they playing at?
Well, it doesn't matter because it ends today. The plan formed in my mind before I could think it through.
"Shane," I mind-linked my Beta, "I'm going after them into the Vale. Others are to stay behind."
I could sense that he disapproved of my decision, but he would never question me - not in the critical moments, anyway.
"Yes, Alpha," came his response. And after a moment of hesitation, Shane added, "Be careful, Jace."
"Always am," I responded to him alone, then barked the retreat orders to my pack members and continued by myself into the town.
The street lights shone dimly, thanks to the heavy downpour. Still, they hurt my eyes a bit after running in the pitch-black forest. But mere moments passed before my eyesight adjusted to the new surroundings.
A strange sense of awareness coursed through my body. My heart raced faster than usual, my senses sharpening. It was as if my body was preparing for something big, something life-changing. I tried to brush it off, focusing on the task at hand, but the feeling only grew stronger.
Or was it the impending doom? I couldn't tell, but more importantly, I had no time to. I had already lost track of the Dark wolves, thanks to the damn rain washing away their scent too quickly. However, I could still follow the muddy paw prints before those disappeared too.
Thank god, the streets were empty, even though it was barely 6 pm. Apparently, humans enjoyed walking in the rain just as much as I did.
I could only imagine what would happen if a human spotted me now: panic, chaos, and a potential rift between our pack and the human community. I couldn't let that happen, so I treaded carefully, staying close to the shades. Good thing, my dark fur easily blended into the shadows growing thicker by the second.
I couldn't help but think about Stacey, the dark beauty I had left behind in my room. She was a great distraction, a temporary fix for my constant longing for my mate. But as the rain soaked my fur, I couldn't deny the gnawing emptiness that lingered in my chest. Deep down, I knew that no amount of meaningless hook-ups could fill that void.
I sniffed around and tried to gauge where the wolves had disappeared to, but I quickly lost their trail. The rain was refreshing, washing away the lingering scent of my own pack members and the she-wolf I had left behind. It allowed me to focus solely on the Dark wolves, even if their scent was fading faster than I would have liked. And to make matters worse, the sound of rain and thunder masked every noise, and the puddles covered the rest of the tracks.
Fuck, f**k, f**k.
Still, I kept walking around, trying to stay out of sight and catch a whiff of them again. They had to be hiding somewhere.
I couldn't help but wonder why they kept coming back. Was it purely to test our defenses, or was there a hidden agenda behind their actions? The thought was unsettling, and I promised myself that I would find out what they were up to.
Also, I couldn't shake that uncomfortable feeling that something was about to happen. Good or bad - I had no idea. But the certainty was there, and I had no intention of running away from a fight.
My instincts led me to the deserted town center. As I moved through the empty streets, a sudden pang of guilt washed over me. I was risking not only my own safety but also the safety of my pack and the humans living in Misty Vale. But I couldn't let these intruders continue to invade our territory, to taunt us with their presence. I had to put an end to it.
I approached slowly, hiding in the dark alley. I scanned the seemingly deserted area and noticed the unmistakable green flash of animal eyes near the town library.
Gotcha now, motherfucker.
I launched forward, the now familiar scent of an enemy wolf hitting my nostrils a second before I crash-landed onto the beast. This time, there was no holding back. I knew I couldn't afford to let them escape again. If they managed to slip away, the cycle would only continue, and my pack would never be truly safe.
The wolf was big and rowdy but not as big and powerful as me. We snarled, tumbled around, and tore into each other, both trying to get the upper hand.
The motherfucker was strong, but I managed to pin him down and bite him in the neck. I mentally recoiled from the metallic taste of his blood.
I had never been one to enjoy inflicting pain, but protecting my pack and territory was always my top priority. This Dark wolf had made the mistake of crossing the line one too many times, and I had to make sure they wouldn't do it again.
That's why my claw slashed his back next, but before I could do more damage, he used his back legs to throw me off. I recovered quickly, prowling at him, and once again, we were tumbling around.
I noticed the direction we were going two seconds too late. Our huge bodies loudly hit the library doors, breaking the tense evening silence.
I cringed internally. I hope no one was there to hear that.
It would be a s**t show if a human walked in on us like this. It would mean violating the treaty and would require a lot of damage control.
The fucker and I both tensed for a second, waiting to see what damage our reckless move caused. The thunder rumbled above us, a fitting backdrop for our battle. The rain continued to pour down, making it even harder to keep a firm grip on the Dark wolf. But it didn't matter, I couldn't let him escape, even if it meant risking exposure.
One second of silence passed, then two. But before I could let out a sigh of relief, I heard faint footsteps approaching from the inside of the library.
Dammit! We're gonna get caught.
The Dark wolf used my momentary distraction to s***h the back of my leg with its claws and sprint away. I had a second to assess my wound — luckily, nothing too serious, but it made running away quickly practically impossible. The human was maybe two seconds away from the door, and I steeled myself for whatever happened.
Then the door opened, and I looked up at the human in front of me. Big brown eyes locked with my blue ones.
At that exact moment, my world stopped. The connection I felt with the girl standing in front of me was immediate, like a magnetic force pulling us together. It was something I had never experienced before, and it left me momentarily stunned. The battle, the rain, the pain in my leg - all of it faded into the background as I focused on the girl before me.
One word ricocheted through me: mate.
