Chapter 2 ~ Electric Blue Eyes

I stood there, transfixed to the smooth ground. Standing like a statue and letting my thoughts travel as far as possible. I was lost in thoughts, thinking about my wretched life when the horn of a sports car diverted my attention and brought me back to life. I quickly jumped out of the way and stood at the other side of the parking lot. I turned around and headed for the entrance of the academy when the man that was driving the sports car called to me. "Hey, were you trying to get yourself killed?" He asked calmly as he walked towards me. "I'm sorry...I..." I stuttered nervously. "It's okay," he smiled "what's your name?" "Samantha Evans." I replied unsteadily. "Oh, I think I saw your name somewhere in a file or something." He said snappily, as if he was running late. "I'm Aaron. Come with me." Without another word, I followed him quickly. Though he moved very fast, I was struggling to meet up with him. As we entered the building, he seemed to be very popular because everyone that came our way showed him some respect. Either they called out to greet him, or they waved at him formerly. The academy was a very prodigious one. The interior was exquisitely decorated with ancient antiques, complemented by beautiful wall paintings and musical adornment. I felt really honored to be in the great musical academy. Aaron finally opened the door that had an 'auditorium' inscription on it. We both entered the large room that was filled with at least fifty people all sitting and quietly staring at the large podium. Aaron whispered to me to go have a sit with the others and I did just as I was told. I moved briskly to sit at the edge of an empty row at the back. I couldn't deal with the crowd. I didn't know if I was claustrophobic or just timid. Suddenly, after some few minutes, a lady went to take the microphone from the rostrum and stood upright to address the crowd. As the speech went on, I figured her name was Payton Churchill and she was the assistant to Aaron Reed. Wait a minute. Aaron...Aaron Reed. Payton handed the microphone over to Aaron. He addressed us formerly. He talked about the academy and how it was founded to empower youths with the beauty and gift of music. He separated us into two groups, calling our names from a list he was holding. When he was done, he told the other group to step aside and handed them over to another man. They were already established singers and instrumentalists. We were only ten in my group, ten newbies. Aaron said that himself and Payton were to handle us. Then they moved us to another smaller room. This one had various musical instruments and the seats were rounded, so our leaders could stand in the middle. I felt more comfortable in the room. I sat with my legs apart, though I was wearing a blue ripped Jean, and boots. I wasn't taking notice of anybody in particular. Because usually, I never really cared about anybody. I had a truckload of problems to handle on my own. Aaron sat in our middle and smiled gently, making his dimples more pronounced. "So, why don't you all introduce yourselves individually, so we all get to know you." he smiled. Nobody offered to go first. So he started again. "Um, are we shy? Okay I'll just point to anyone and you stand up to introduce yourself." Then he pointed at me first. I swear I almost died. But what could I do? "...um hey everyone." I forced a smile. "I'm Samantha Evans. But just call me Sam." The crowd murmured. "You're welcome, Sam." Aaron smiled back at me. "Let's hear from you, blonde boy." He teased. "Hello people, I'm Joey Starks. Nice to meet you all." He waved. Aaron nodded and went on and on. Then he pointed to the last girl. "So you're next, pretty girl on a red shirt." Everyone chuckled. "Hi, I'm Candice Page." She spoke calmly, yet looking really smart and pretty. I couldn't get my eyes off her. There was something striking about her, and I couldn't figure it out. I just couldn't concentrate for a minute. We sat opposite each-other and she folded her arms, letting them rest on her breasts. I think she caught me staring at her and she returned a stern and puzzled look. I just laughed underneath my breath and smiled to myself. This was cracking me up, big time. And I thought for a second, I might be making her feel uncomfortable. Though it wasn't intentional. Finally, we were done for the day. It was only 5:20pm and Kyle was going to pick me up at 6, meaning I had to wait another thirty minutes here, before I go out to wait for him outside. I sat there, ears plugged and eyes glued to the book I was reading on my iPad. I raised my head to take a quick glance at the room, and everyone seemed to be either talking to one-another or falling out. Suddenly, a warm tap on my shoulders alerted me. It was the girl I'd been staring at a while ago. Oh my god what did she want? My internal organs started to act funny. "Hi," She said sweetly. "Aren't you leaving yet?" It took me a large bunch of time to actually assimilate what was going on. "Uh...yes. I mean no. My dad isn't here yet." I replied huskily. "What about you?" "I can go home on my own. I'll be leaving now though. Just came to say hi." She rolled her electric blue eyes. I didn't know what to say back. I was beginning to get tensed and shaky. So I just extended my hand to her. "Good to meet you." I shook her hand calmly. "Sam, right?" She asked "Yes. And you're Candice... yeah?" I threw back at her. "Yeah. So I guess I'll see you around. I should get going now." She looked at her wrist watch. "Right. Bye." I nodded. "See you tomorrow." She turned and left the room. I watched her leave. My heart beat splitting fast. The sound of her voice continued to echo in my head. The grandfather clock in the room struck 6. And I quickly rushed out of the building in time to meet Kyle's Nissan SUV driving in roughly. I rushed speedily to get into the car and then without a second wasted, he drove out of the academy. "How are you?" He broke the silence. "Fine." I replied, looking away. "I'm sure you are," he barked annoyingly. "...you little princess." I didn't utter another word. As he kept on ranting and ranting, talking about how his secretary sucked his p***s for a raise, and how he's planning to visit a strip club with his friends this weekend. I just channeled my inner mind and brought out the thought about Candice and the good things of life. In order to block out the negative energy that Kyle connotes everywhere he goes. I closed my eyes for a minute and felt the cool summer breeze that filled the car through the rolled down windows. Candice's electric blue eyes and red rosy lips distracted me for a while as I kept thinking about her. Suddenly, a hard rock-heavy stinging slap landed on my left eye, causing me to break. "Ouchh..!" I cried, holding my face. "Shut the hell up!" He spat angrily. "How long does it take for you to realize you're home already?" Teardrops rolled over to the sides of my cheeks. I got down from the car and ran straight into the house. I rushed into my room and locked the door after me. Jumping on my bed, I began to weep bitterly.
