Chapter 6 - Elyansa

“You know I'm still considering those brothels in your city, but I have come to the conclusion that it isn't what I need to experience to have my life.” He says this with no shirt on and tight black jeans, which kind of feels like a setup.

I can't help the shocked look on my face and I know I'm turning tomato red, “haha!” Awkward as f**k, “I should have known.” Of course, it would be a prince on my balcony and it makes sense on how he got up there. “Well, I am happy you were able to figure that part out. But I do hope you were able to experience some of the middle during your visit, your highness.” Man, this guy has a nice body.. Focus Yansa focus!

“I forbid you to call me that, please call me by my name.. I would like us to be friends.. If you're interested?” He says this with no confidence and I think he's cute for it.

“Well it depends.. Are you going to disappear in the shadows while we are in the middle of conversations?” Am I freaking flirting? Get it together Yansa, but he's smiling so big and he has such nice teeth.

“I promise from here on out to finish any and all conversations with you,” he says with one hand up and one hand over his heart.

“I will hold you to it, Shadow.” Did I give him another nickname? Good grief, Yansa gain some composure here and stop smiling.

“After speaking with you that night, I too found my head in the clouds literally. So I waited all night to see if I could catch a glimpse of the Borealis.” He took a step closer, “and I did, it was stunning.”

Now he is flirting with me? “You're lucky then. I have seen a few but they are rare.” I smile but I turn towards the water so he doesn't see it. “Well, it seems we have passed Poseidon's crossing, and I am now in the territory of the surface world. Your world.. What's your advice on what I should see first?”

“That's easy. Look down and to the right.”

I did and I am amazed! Neon colored fish, blue, yellow, red and green.

“What! Oh my god, this is amazing! They are amazing. What kind of fish are they? Are there other colors? Please tell me all about them!!” All coolness and self-control has left my body. I have officially gone full geek and I can hear him laughing at me.

“I am definitely no expert, but I do know they only live in this region and come out for the brightest moons or the darkest waters. They are called Rainbow Dragons. They are believed to be the spirits of the best of us who have walked this earth. The most modern scientific explanation is that it's because of toxic waste that these fish are like this. But most of us like to believe in something more beautiful than some scientific mumbo jumbo.”

“Well, however they got here and why, it is really a beautiful evolution. I have seen many wonderful things on this trip already. I am definitely taking it as a sign that my stay in New Edo will be satisfactory.” Before I took my eyes off these fish, I asked Ceru a question. “So now tell me why you ran off the other night when the servant came?”

He grabs the back of his neck, “I'm not a people person.”

“But you're royalty, you're born and bred to serve the people.”

“Uhhh yeah, I am. But socializing is not my strong suit. And people don't really receive me well either, so it makes it easier for me to just stay silent and be in the background.”

I took my eyes off the fish and turned to look at him, “I am confused. Why wouldn't your people receive you well? You're rare, charming, and intelligent. Your aura screams power and royalty and you're quite handsome,” his eyebrows jumped up. “Anyone who pre-judges you is a fool. But maybe we can help each other. You'll be the only person I know who might be able to help me navigate my new life. Soooo, I'll help you find your footing with your public persona, if you can help me around your home and surface world culture and traditions? What do you say?”

“Absolutely! I'll be honored to help you every step of the way.” He steps in even closer. He's close enough now that I can really make out his features. He has an olive complexion and thick black eyebrows. One brown eye and one green eye. The green eye has a large crescent scar around it. His nose is the perfect size for his masculine face. His jaw is square and strong, his lips are full and his teeth are so pretty. Sheesh, I love a man with a nice smile. He is tall, about 6’6" tall. He has scars all over his upper body and arms like he has wrestled lions, and I am curious. Is he a warrior? Or..”

Splat, splat splat. Sounds of suction cups sticking and releasing to the of the ship.

“ Shadow.. What the hell is that noise?”

“Yansa, stand back! get behind me!” he pushes me behind him and I'm peeking out from behind his wings. I saw this frog-like thing climbing up and onto the deck. He starts running towards us and I feel Ceru tense up to prepare for the impact but, I am not willing to find out what that will be like. So I pulled a dart from the inside of my pants and threw it straight for its eye. Bullseye! Upon impact, this thing is thrown back, falls over the railing and back into the water.

“What!” Ceru spins around and looks at me in either amazement or horror.. I can't tell yet.

“RUN!” We ran straight to the door that took us into the bridge and slammed it shut behind us.

“I thought you were a teacher?”

“Is anybody just one thing? What were those things, Ceru?”

“They are amphibinytes, and they shouldn't be all the way out here.”

“You need to get to your father and make sure he's safe. I need to grab some things from my room.”

“Absolutely not Yansa! We need to go straight to my father.”

“Ravens' feathers never falter. I got this, trust me and we need to do this now. I'll meet you in the king's quarters.”

“Yansa, please be careful,” he gently grabs onto my arm. His hands are big and warm and I grab hold of the hand he has on me.

“This is the beginning of our adventures and we have so many adventures a head of us. We’re going to be fine. We have entered a new era in our lives and we are a team now. We got this. But at this moment your father needs you.” He nodded, so I let go of his hand and he let go of me. I walked towards the door. “You ready?” I smiled and opened the door. He runs to the corridor with the King and I run in the opposite direction, ducking and dodging enemies to get to my room. This is exciting.
