CHAPTER FIFTEEN

V and I stared in shock. Veronica was the first to find her voice, "He's your son?!" Edgar smirked proudly while Alistair looked rather stuck in place. Offering only a slight smile. "My pride and joy. Ladies let me introduce my son, the deadliest assassin and his mother's special little starlight. Alistair Moone." Veronica snickered at the nickname causing Alistair to blush as he brushed his old man off. He went to throw a punch but Edgar was faster, dodging effortlessly. It was clear he outranked Alistair in speed and ability but Alistair was relentless. I thought to stop them but Vincent pulled into the driveway and the skirmish came to an end before he even opened the door. His dark amber eyes fell onto Alistair, each step closer exuding danger as his tone fell low and cold. "Where. Were. You." He hissed as he stood inches from Alistair who flinched at the proximity. "I ..I thought it was better for the Lady to handle it...personally." Alistair said nervously. Vincent looked like he could kill him but Edgar cleared his throat. "I believe the ladies could use less...violence today, don't you agree Young Master?" Vincent growled and backed away from Alistair, moving onto me. His harsh expression softened as he gently inspected me for any damages. "Are you alright Princess? No injuries?" He was careful and his time was completely different towards me causing Edgar to smile and Alistair to look at him in disbelief. The confusion on Alistair's face seemed to stoke the flames of annoyance. "Al... Training room. Now." Alistair tried to argue, looking shaken but he resigned and slumped away to accept whatever came next. Edgar kept a warm, happy smile. "You too bicker just like brothers... Oh how I've missed this" he says with a nostalgic tone as he reminisced about the past. Vincent hissed in annoyance. "Give it a rest old man..." He turned to me and caressed my cheek thoughtfully, "i have to teach a dog its place Princess, you rest up and will discuss the incident at the cafe." His grip tightened slightly as he recalled the event but his touch softened again as he kissed my forehead with warm affection before walking away to the training room. Edgar smiled, seemingly unfazed by what was happening between his son and Vincent. "Come ladies, let's get you both settled in." He said warmly as he ushered us into the villa. He tenderly inspected Veronica's face, he made sounds of pride in his son's first aid skills. He settled us on the couch and brought us some juice. We thanked him and sat quietly for a moment before Veronica spoke up. "I'm sorry Addie..." Her voice is soft but her expression stern. I knew she was apologizing for the aftermath of what happened. Her father and brothers would bring their fury down on my mother which would directly and negatively affect my father. I didn't care so much about my mother and Nadia but my father was the only dim light in my dark childhood. He wasn't around much but when he was he treated me well enough, often trying to compensate for the lack of maternal love in my life. I offered a slight smile "it's ok. You shouldn't apologize for what she has done. I should be apologizing to you." "Never apologize for anything that witch does Doll!" She pinched my cheek lightly, a playful smile on her face as she settled into the couch her eyes reflecting an impish thought as she spoke over her cup of tea "I'm almost excited to see what will happen to her for this...I'm picturing public humiliation or bankruptcy...parking tickets?" I chuckle softly and look at my own cup, my reflection rippling in the rich amber liquid. I didn't know what she would face but I knew she had it coming. Being the wife of a successful business man had always made her entitled and selfish. Part of me missed my youth, the time before my dad was such a success but it's a selfish thought. I'm proud of everything he accomplished but I hate what the success did to our family. I wish I could pin point the end but everything seemed to fall apart over night. Dad worked non stop to increase his business, mom became a selfish trophy wife and Nadia followed her influence. Gripping my cup I vowed to not let whatever happens in that family affect me anymore. Now I have my own family to focus on. Veronica and Vincent. They are what's important to me now, that and finding myself again. The first step was letting go of the past with Jonathan. Now I needed to step away from my family. A clean break. Me and V sat calmly for the rest of the day chatting and reminiscing about past adventures, it was a good distraction from the turmoil of the day. Later in the evening Alistair joined us. Exhausted and battered while Vincent seemed nonchalant, borderline bored. "Quit crying Al. I went east on you." Alistair, the usually calm and collected, pointed at Vincent and whined. "You monster! You call that easy?! You were trying to kill me!" Vincent let out a dark, chilling chuckle. His eyes narrowed on Alistair maliciously. "If I wanted you dead old friend ...you'd be dead." Alistair tried to hide behind me. "Save me my Lady, he's a beast! A blood thirsty beast!" I looked at them both, taking a moment to think calmly before sipping the last of my tea slowly. My tone indifferent as I shrugged, "what he does with his subordinates is his business. I trust him not to go overboard without reason." Alistair whimpered and kept a wary eye on Vincent who began to crack his knuckles, a dark look in his eyes. I smirked as I looked up at him," though...you did give me Alistair...didn't you darling?" My tone playful as I smiled innocently at Vincent He paused, his eyes narrowed as he scoffed, his eyes reflecting a slight annoyance as Alistair perked up. "Yeah...I did Princess..." he looked away. He knew where I was going and didn't like it. "I suppose that makes you MY subordinate, doesn't it Alistair?" He smiled triumphantly at Vincent but the smile faded as I smiled at him wickedly, "too bad what's mine is his though, since we're a committed couple and all" Vincent chuckled at the defeated look on Alistair's face, kissing my cheek as he grinned wickedly at Alistair who curled into V who looked at both of us with a look of annoyance. "Leave the poor fool alone, both of you! Jeez...you're making her awful cheeky Vincent." She chastised us with a way of her finger as she consoled Alistair. I smiled and laughed happily as I threw my hands up in mock surrender. "Alright, alright. I'll be nice. No more teasing Alistair...for now." I smirked and she playfully hit me with a pillow. We four all settled in the living room talking and laughing. It felt so odd to see Alistair and Vincent, they seemed like brothers in their interactions and the way V and Alistair were so close made me curious. I missed so much of her life with Jonathan, I knew she was single now but I never thought to ask about past relationships. She never really focused on such things, always focused on herself and those she cared about. During dinner we all sat and enjoyed the delicious meal Edgar had prepared, he scrutinized his son but there was love in his eyes as they interacted. Dinner was finished off with a delightful lemon tart but after the sweetness came a serious tension as Vincent steepled his fingers. "We need to discuss a plan against today's little...incident. Princess, do I have your permission to intervene?" I looked at V who simply shrugged, her family were already on the way to their retribution. "I...I feel like V's family has it covered ..." His eyes narrowed. "They have it for her, not for you. She needs to answer for even daring to approach you." "S..she's my mother though..." I whispered as I looked down. He slowly stood and walked to me, lifting my chin so our eyes met. "And you are mine, Princess. There's a rule you need to learn when being with me..." His grip tightened slightly, his voice gentle though there was a dominant nature to his intense gaze, "disrespecting you is equivalent to disrespecting me and I don't tolerate disrespect."
