Disruption at the Lounge

Leo Leo sipped his cold whiskey and continued to stare at his new employee. A slap against his back brought him out of his fantasies. “You look lost in thought! Are you alright bro?” Ollie asked with concern in his eyes. Leo was grateful that he did not see Leo’s obsession with the lady in red. Must have been because of the girl hanging at the crook of his arm. Michelle, Alan’s sister, gave him a smile. “Hi.” “I am fine,” Leo responded to Ollie and mumbled his hello to Michelle. She was Gabby’s friend. Did that mean Gabby was here too? “Gabby is downstairs. She saw someone from college and got chatting.” Michelle answered, making Leo smile. His little sister would be so kicked to see him here. She had been hounding him for working too much. “That’s great. Tell her I am upstairs when you catch up with her.” He requested Michelle. Michelle assured him she would and both Ollie and Michelle darted off to the dance floor. The DJ had started his playing his music sometime back. Right now he was blasting a peppy number but as soon as Ollie and Michelle landed on the dance floor the music changed. The DJ obviously knew what a great dancer Michelle was. She had won quite a few awards for her dancing. Ollie and Michelle looked like love birds, dancing and twirling in each other’s arms. Leo knew that for Ollie, it was only dancing. He shook his head and turned to his object of attention, as Michelle dipped back and Ollie supported her torso in artistic elegance. They were a treat for the eyes. Leo turned to continue staring at Kelly. He wasn’t interested in Ollie’s dance. He knew the bugger was an outstanding dancer. Right now, he had eyes only for that lady who was chatting with her friends. She was having an animated discussion and every gesture of hers looked mesmerising in those dim bar lights. Is there a way to hear what they were saying? Without breaking any law? He thought to himself as he observed Alan go downstairs. When his baby sister looked like that and danced like that, Alan and his staff would get extra alert. There had been times when things had gone out of hand with guys trying to become over- enthusiastic in wanting to know Michelle. His eyes narrowed when he saw Gabby and Kelly chatting. Even from this distance, he could see the bounce in Gabby’s step. He was right. She really liked Kelly. Whatever they talked about must have gone well because she had a big smile on her face and had her arm in Kelly’s hulking man’s hand. He scowled at the idea of calling the guy, Kelly’s man. Then Gabby and the guy started dancing. The man was good. His heart drummed against his chest seeing the hulk’s moves. Was Kelly a good dancer, too? Would she hate my dancing? The hulk and his sister gave a good competition to Ollie and Michelle. Ollie being Ollie, took up the challenge. The music, the lights the dance, and the whole ambience that day were magical. Soon everyone joined in and was jostling for space on the dance floor. Kelly's other friends were also on the dance floor. He looked at Kelly who was enjoying the show, sitting alone sipping her drink. She wasn’t jealous of Gabby dancing with her man. He liked that. Then Kelly’s expressions changed. She frowned, still looking at the dance floor. It scared him, so he glanced at the floor. Michelle and Gabby were fighting, trying to tear each other's hair off. Uggh, these girls! Not again! He rolled his eyes and started descending the steps to break the fight. Alan was already there but was taking a while to wade through the crowd to reach the middle of the dance floor. Gabby and Michelle were like this since childhood. They could get furious at each other and fight but would soon become the best of friends. While they fought, there was a lot of drama and when they were friends, there were a lot of emotions. The girls were mental! Leo shook his head. Poor Alan! Parting the crowd was a difficult task. By now, Leo had reached the bottom of the stairs. He got distracted by Kelly’s back next to the bar counter. Then he saw a cop walking towards Kelly. Strange! What does a copper want with her? Is he another friend? Leo stopped and moved closer to Kelly to see what was happening. He did not want to miss the words. Kelly was still unaware of the cop as she had hopped off the stool. Is she planning to get into that crowd to help Gabby? How endearing! The cop’s hand came up and SM*CK! The loud sound of his hand hitting against Kelly’s smooth cheek, sounded clearly even in that noisy room. Everyone around them stilled. *** Kelly How is this possible? Wasn’t he supposed to serve time for six months? She stared, stunned into inaction, as the salty taste of blood filled her mouth. Her numb brain wasn’t able to come to terms with how her ex could be there. She ignored the pain in her busted lip. How did he know where she was and how was he out of prison in only two weeks? People around her stood frozen. Alex was there in his uniform. It must have been quite a shock to see a cop hit a woman. She massaged her cheek and spat, “You? How did you manage to get out? Have you escaped?” Alex growled. His eyes looked crazier than she had last seen him. Light bounced off his bald head and his face looked sinister with bruises on it. Tiny spittles flew out of his mouth as he snarled angrily, “b*tch! Do you know what happens to the cops who go behind the bars? How dare you do this to me! How dare you place me under arrest?” He swung his huge hand again. Kelly ducked. He wasn’t expecting that. He tripped on his feet and before he could adjust his weight, Kelly twirled on one foot and gave him a low side- kick that connected with the side of his knee. He went down in a heap cursing her and then lunged at her. “You skank!” She stamped her heel on his foot, piercing it with the heel of her shoe, turned around and elbowed his gut. This time, he was prepared. He caught her in a chokehold and although his foot must have been hurting, he roared louder than anyone around and shook her violently from side to side, still choking her with his elbow. She caught hold of his arms, which were cutting her air supply. As he shook her body, she lost her balance. Stilettos are not really ideal shoes for combat. Her ankle almost twisted. It would have been painful had she broken her ankle, but the tw*at was still choking her throat with his elbow. That kept her dangling and saved her ankle. It had an adverse effect though. With her breathing cut off, she started to feel dizzy. He continued to hurl profanities, talking cr*p about her character, but the words did not reach her anymore. She couldn’t breathe. A ringing of a bell in a distance filled her ears and black stars started to dance in front of her eyes. She continued to punch and slap his hand, trying to free herself, but it did nothing to move his humongous hands. He just cackled madly at her wasted efforts. She was on the verge of a blackout. She did not want to be taken. Where the hell was David and what about those bouncers at the club? ***
