Day Four: First Night

The moment John took that bite, and tasted the inside of the fruit. John couldn't help but open his eyes wide. John wouldn't have thought that, despite its blood-red image and its delicious smell, that it would produce quite the taste. John could swear that he had never tasted something so bland in his entire life. The fruit tasted nothing. No sweetness, no sourness, or spiciness, no nothing! It was like he was eating water! "What the heck...?" was all John could say as he swallowed the water-like flesh of the fruit. If he wasn't hungry and had nothing more to properly eat, John could swear he would've thrown the fruit out of annoyance. Fortunately, he wasn't the type to waste food, otherwise he would have one less fruit to eat. "I wonder why those rabbits seemed to like this fruit so much? I thought it would be delicious considering that those rabbits picked this fruit out of the many that hung on the trees." He really couldn't understand. "Maybe they were just storing it for emergency food?" *Much* *Munch* John's mouth didn't stop from eating, despite his grievances about the fruit. After all, he was hungry. And unless he learned how to properly produce fire, it would only be fruits and grass, so he had to get used to them, no matter how against his palate was to it. After eating, John decided to look outside his small hidey hole. It was nearly night as the sky slowly darkened. The three suns slowly descended on the horizon. John, not knowing the proper directions, conveniently addressed that direction as the West. Meaning...the moon was about to appear! "... Or moons?" John muttered, looking at the direction where the moons were rising. Moons because there were two of those moons. One small and one big, one blue and one green. If John was skeptical of this place being another world before, which he clearly wasn't, then now he was much more certain about it. Like, two moons? Just how much gravitational pull do those two create on this world? John didn't know and had no plan of knowing now. Because now.... it was time for him to appreciate the beauty of this world. John gazed at the night-blue sky, eyes glittering in amazement and wonder. The countless stars that seemed to blanket the world with their light, and the dim light of the two moons, red and green, seeming to contrast the night, the cold air of the night, the chirping of the nocturnal insects... John doesn't know what to say... except, beautiful. It was a beautiful night, unlike any other he had experienced before. Living in a city with countless tall buildings, John had rarely had the chance to see such a scene. The best he had seen may, perhaps, be the fireworks display during New Year's Eve. But that was one noisy night. John, lost in thought, continued to gaze at the starlit sky. It was his first night in this world lurking with unknown dangers and many more unknowns. He didn't know why he was transported here, nor know the reason why he was separated from his classmates. Was he being persecuted by the one that summoned him? Perhaps. But John had no control over it. No matter how many grievances he had about the person that put him in this place, he had no way of knowing who they were, how powerful they were, or if they were even a mortal like him. Most likely not. John could only go with the flow as he always had. He had no power, at the very least for the moment, as he had plans of finding at least one way to fend for himself. Although John had no idea whether Alex and his classmates were transported to this world as well, he would find out in due time. For now... he needed to survive, learn to properly produce fire, and most definitely learn to fight, as there would certainly be creatures in this forest that he could not go against with his current self. Not like he had any way of learning how to fight. But conditioning his body should be the very first step. "For now, I need to sleep. Tomorrow we start training!" John, as decisive as ever, decided to lie down sideways like a cooked shrimp. And using his left hand, he slowly drifted to sleep. .......... The bright light of the three suns shone down on the lustrous forest as creatures, big or small, started to stir awake. Most of them were creatures that sustained themselves using the flora of the forest, but many were among them that desired the blood and flesh of others. *Swooosh!* Just like the one creature running for his dear life. *Haaa... Haa...* Panting noises could be heard from him as he chased a brown rabbit with an odd white spot on its forehead, and compared to the ones he had seen before, this one was definitely much smaller. Maybe a kit? No matter, John was determined to chase after it! But no matter how much he tried, he just couldn't catch up. "F*ck! Just how much stamina does this bugger have?!" He screamed in an exhausted voice. This creature was obviously John Kaiser. He had woken up early as per his usual routine. And just like usual, he tried to stand up from his "bed" but found it not feasible as the moment he tried to stand up, he hit his head on the inner wall of the hollowed tree that he was sleeping in. Making him instantly awake and out of his stupor as he realized he was no longer at the comfort of his house.... away from his books... *Sniff*. Sad that as it may, John could only move forward. And as he had decided the night before, he got to working, mainly body workout. But before he did so, a nice breakfast was necessary. So, picking up the fire starters he had used yesterday, John started his research on how to produce fire using vines and twigs. Which still found no progress. Thus, with no other choice, and hunger gnawing at him. He could only turn vegan once again. John, exhausted from rubbing twigs, decided to muster all his remaining strength as he climbed back up his hidey hole which, to his surprise, found empty. Like, really empty. No berries, no fruit, no nothing. His stack of fruit was gone, as if it had vanished into thin air. "...." John could only stare at his hidey hole. He wanted to act hysterical and panicky, but decided to remain calm as he surveyed his surroundings. "Something must have stolen my loot," he concluded. He wasn't some detective that could trace things and find evidence. Nah, he was far from that. The only reason he made that conclusion was because of the large footprints left on the scene. And if John couldn't recognize those footprints from all the Animal Biology books he had read, then he would have failed as a proper reader. John was certain it came from those rabbits. Questioning how they managed to climb the tree was not something John could be concerned about himself. The most important thing is that they left a mark! Thus! With John following the footprints of the rabbit, he managed to trace it back to the thief, which resulted in the earlier scene of him chasing down the rabbit with seemingly endless stamina. Not like he had a large pool of it, but surprisingly he had managed to last quite long chasing the rabbit through the forest. John wasn't sure and just attributed it to the transmigration he experienced. *Plop* "Haaa.... Haa..." John, exhausted, plopped on the ground. He had exhausted his stamina reserve, he was hungry, and most of all, he was lost. "Haa... Shouldn't have.... chased... that rabbit...." he said with fatigue. With no other thing to do, John looked up. The bright light of the three suns was now blocked by the surrounding foliage, only managing to pass through the small gaps, creating an area perfect for resting. John was tired, he hadn't run that much since… Forever. He wasn't an athletic person, and he didn't like running on a flattened field, much more a forest field with obstacles. So, after being subjected to that grueling run of his life, John could only lie down. He needed to get his stamina back to the peak as he still had a workout to do.... Minutes passed as John lay on the ground. His school unifo- "Wait..." John did a double take as he looked at himself. Surely he was wearing his uniform before... right? John slowly stood up, looking at the now woolen t-shirt he was now wearing as well as the pants made from the same fabric. Both were the color of black. His school shoes were also changed to those of a black leather-like material. "....the f*ck?" Was the only thing John could say. He didn't know how he had not managed to notice it much earlier. Surely John was preoccupied with the whole Another World transmigration. But... when the f*ck did his clothes change? Really. When?
