2089 Words
Among the 10 maids in the parlor room. Dawn Velan is the one most closest to the Second Princess. She had been with her since she was but a child. Dawn is one of the 3 personal maids that the Third Consort picked for her daughter, the two have already been fired due to the princess's whim. She fired maids after maids when she got irritated by them. She even use them for magic practice as well. And the reason for earlier atmosphere, the reason for the fatigue of the maids was due to another one of the princess's usual habit of 'practicing' using the maids as targets. She made them run around and fired magic at them until the time passed. The maids could only endure the treatment, if they tried to hurt a royalty even their family would not be left alone. They grind their teeth whenever the princess did such an act. Because they knew that she could someday return to her former self. Not many know about this fact, but the Second Princess, Eleonora Shuvan Ascorte Memphis, was once a kind and caring child, she was so pure and innocent that she could not even harm a fly. Her dramatical, almost unbelievable change happened 10 years ago on the day when the Second Princess turned 8 . Nobody knew exactly what happened. The only thing they knew is that one of the Queens, the Third Consort died on that very same day. Dawn as one the chosen personal maids, was always with the Second Princess. Even during that time she was with the her. There was only one notable time when she could not be with her, when the Third Consort called for her child and maid all the servants leave her chambers. Just like any servants none could enter the chambers of the member of the Royal Family, unless they're permitted. And on that day, when hours passed and not a single noise could be heard inside the chamber. The servants began to felt ominous. At first they just disregard the lack of noise as the mother and child sleeping. But even when evening came, and no matter how much they knocked on the door. No reply came. Dawn, feeling a bad premonition, immediately called for the personal knight of the Third Consort. They didn't inform the King but the prime minister in-case that they just made a mistake. During those long process, Dawn could no longer contain her worry and knocked once again, she knocked and knocked but no matter how loud she knocked and called for the people inside, no reply came in. She resolved herself and decided to burst inside the room. The other servants tried to stop her, but she didn't listen to them. Using her body, she bashed her shoulder on the magically enhanced door. But no matter how hard she bash the door, it didn't open. She could not use magic due to her lack of mana as well. She didn't give up though, as she continued to slam her body through the door, some of her bones cracked, wounds and bruises appeared on her body due to the impact the door gives. Time flowed this way and finally the knights came along with the Prime Minister. At first they were startled at the look of a maid covered in bruises and coughing blood, but eventually they came to a realization that it was of a greater problem than they thought. They immediately opened the door. There was no light in the room and only the moonlight that came from outside the open veranda lit the room slightly. And even with only that they could see the sole person inside the room. They could see the Third Consort, lying on her bed, with her eyes closed. At first glance she looked like someone sleeping, but when the Prime Minister checked her pulse. He could only gasped in shock. The other people who came inside the room late, including Dawn, quickly surveyed the room, she looked for the 8 year old girl, with long platinum hair. But no matter how much she looked she could not see her. The prime mister also took notice of this and made the knights investigate the surroundings. A few hours passed and they still couldn't find the princess. They informed the King of the death of the Third Consort and told him that the second princess is missing as well. The first borne, the First Princess, volunteered to look for her outside the palace and took her knights with her. The 3rd Born the First Prince, also went to look for his older sister. Almost all the Royal Family participated in the search, but they could not find her. A few days passed after the Third Consort's funeral. During the mournful morning, when breakfast is being served to the Royal Family. The missing 8 years old princess appeared out of nowhere. One moment she was not there and the next she was sitting on the chair designated to her, she was eating just like the other members. Dawn, who was also inside the room was shocked but eventually a big smile appeared on her face, she was relieved that the child return, the same goes for the King, the two Queens and their children. Though they are not fully blood related, they treated each other as family, the same goes for the Queens. So, when they were about to approach her, they stopped. The Second princess was truly there, but the sweet child who always smile was no longer. The Second Princess, just stuffed her mouth with the food in her plate, her amethyst-colored eyes were void of life, she was like an empty husk. The little girl just sit there as she shoved everything that's on her plate. Even when the plate is already empty, she scoop and shove the spoon in her mouth, she repeated this like a machine designed to do so. Dawn, couldn't look at the second princess anymore, she was pained so much as if something's clamping on her heart. It was not just Dawn, everyone in the room who knows what happened, gripped their chest hard. The King seeing his child, broken, Stood up and approached her, he put down the spoon and fork in the princess's hands and hugged her. The Queens could be heard suppressing their tears. The first princess and first prince burst into a cry and the youngest at that time the third princess hugged her as well. The Second Princess didn't move and just look straight ahead. And muttered "Mama" faintly, but the room enveloped in silence, echoed her words. The people grind their teeth to suppress their surging emotions. The Third Consort was the kindest among the 3 Queens, she was like the eldest sister who protect the other two, and the other two were the younger sisters who aspired to be like their sister. Everyone in the room was grateful to her, and her unknown death caused everyone griefs that they could not control. Dawn was the same as the Third Consort was like a mother to her as well. She at that time was only 14 years old. And that event was too much for her that it was engraved in her memories. She could not imagine how painful and traumatizing it was for the 8-year-old Eleonora. And that was the start of the second princess's change. She became ruthless and cold, even to her family. The servants were fearful of her. The King seeing the great change in his daughter, assigned only the most trustworthy people around her. Dawn was obviously among them and became the head servant of the second princess. She was so close to the princess that the princess listened to her advice. She was able to somewhat suppress the princess's brutal nature. That's why, she was worried that if she retired, the princess would turn into a criminal who enjoyed hurting others. Dawn peeked at her shoulders, and saw that that the young man with black hair and eyes was no longer inside the room. She became stunned for a moment but eventually calmed herself, she remembered the young man's words earlier. "Ah- please remember that I'll be behind you" 'Is what he said, but where is he?' Dawn, looked around the room. The servants were serving the two princesses their meals. They chatted a bit for bit until they finished their meals. Dawn, could not helped but clench her fist tightly. She could not help but remember the events 10 years ago. 'Just what happened back then?' She thought. Everyone in the palace wanted the answer to it. Investigations were held off due to the continuous invasions of the neighboring kingdoms. "Sister, would you be joining us for dinner today?" Vanessa ask. Ever since that day, Eleonora didn't join them at the table. She would eat alone in her room and would just go out for school. And even now, she refused to eat with them. "I'll be heading for my next class" That was all she said and left Vanessa inside the room. Dawn seeing her pained expression approached her. "I'll try convincing My Lady to go today as well, you just rest in the chamber for now Your Highness. We'll return to the palace together as per His Majesty's order" "Um. I will take a rest now" "I'll wake you up when My Lady return" Vanessa smiled bitterly and went to the sleeping chamber inside the parlor. Dawn watched her back enter the room. She then joins the other servants in the cleaning. They all wore gloomy expressions. After their clean-up. Dawn once again surveyed the room and looked for a black-haired young man. She didn't know why, but even if the suspicious young man was not around, she felt assured that nothing wrong would happen. And this proved to be true when the Magic lessons of Eleonora finished, they all went back to the palace together with the dozing-off Vanessa. Through the end, the black-haired young man didn't show up once again. But upon entering her sleeping quarters to change her uniform, a white envelope with no crest fell from the maid uniform she was wearing earlier. She took the letter and turned it around, then she saw a few words. It was designated to her. She carefully yet cautiously opened it, and a letter was inside. "To Ms. Dawn, I apologized for my sudden disappearance..." Dawn read the message and a frown appeared on her forehead. The message said that the sender wanted to apologized for their disappearance without a word and that they wanted to show their sincere apology in their next meeting. It said that he'll do one single thing that she wanted him to do, as long as it's reasonable and doable. It also stated in the letter that, he had observed the Second princess's character and wanted to know more about her. In that way, the sender could try to solve the problem. 'What can someone who's not even related do?' She thought to herself. Not even the members of the royal family could reach her heart, not even herself. Once again Dawn clenched her fist tightly but decided to do the young man a favor. She planned to tell him the story when they met again. As she was about to put down the letter, her eyes caught a reminder at the very bottom of the letter. "P.S? Don't let your master walk back alone without a guard...?" Dawn was confused when she read it. Then she remembered earlier event in the parlor. The second princess left the parlor Yes she left, without a single guard around her. Dawn was shocked when she remembered it, the princess is notorious in the academy for looking down on others and was hated for it. Even if she was Royalty, she couldn't use her authority to punished them, because all they did was talk behind her back. There were instances where other students attacked her but the knights around her protected her. But this time, Dawn knew the moment she comprehended the meaning of the last sentence. "The princess was attacked..." But then a question popped up in her mind. 'If the princess was attacked, why didn't she say anything when she arrived back...? I better ask her myself' Resolving her self, Dawn left her room and headed for the Second princess's palace, where her princess resides.
