Day Thirty-Nine: Divine Light

2408 Words
As I opened my eyes a familiar symbol engraved on the ceiling greeted my eye. "Where am I?" I muttered faintly. I looked around the room and saw different kinds of vials and operating tools made of steel. 'The medical room' I thought to myself. I don't know how I got here, but I could guess a few ways how. And the most probable are the shadows. Although there were seven of them when I was together with the Count, four of them left and follow after him when he was called. The three stayed behind to watch my every actions. Though none of them moved whe the people of that church were buried. Why did they decide to take me back? I couldn't think of a reason why. The animosity I felt from them (even now as they watched over me) made me mull over the reason I was saved. Welp, maybe the Count has a hand in this. Anyways. That punishment from the Gods made me run with my tails between my legs. The sheer amount of mana-no, was it even mana to begin with? The feeling's almost the same, but there's something that I can't put to words that define it... Should I say divine power? As it came from the Gods? Anyways it was so terrifying that almost all my mental type passive skills activated at the same time. 'Grim Demeanor' that resist mental attacks. 'Quick Calculation' that made possible scenarios foreseeable. 'Fear Conversion' that I now know its use, as it converts my fear to the stats I'm lacking in a given scenario that it activated. 'Poker Face' that works in tandem with the other mental passive skills, as it represses my emotions. 'Cold Eyes' that I didn't noticed until now, that it increases visual acuity. The last two are probably the passive skills that for the first-time, I saw activating. No matter how dangerous I fought before, the two didn't show themselves on the window as a sign of activation. They only do their jobs as passive skills, repressing my emotions to certain degree and slight increase on how I perceived things. Though, I thought it was part of leveling-up. But the effects of them when activated showed incredible, yet scary effect. At that time 'Poker Face' repressed my emotions to the degree that I fear having no fears at all. This skill made me recklessly move on the possible conclusions that 'Quick Calculations' created, and the result? This. I should know more about this rip-off skills of mine. As I was swimming in the sea of my thoughts, a voice called out to me. "Kaiser, you're awake" the owner of the voice said as they went towards me. I slightly tilted my head and looked at the direction it came from. There I saw the purple-haired, green eyes Count. "Sir Count" I said, my voice hoarse. It seems I was out for a few days again... "How do you feel?" the Count asked. He sat down near the bed I was lying as he inspected my condition, his face filled with worry. "I'm fine" I said to the worried count. I don't know if he's worried about me though. He could be worried about the repercussions my actions did. But, no one would even think I was the culprit of that event. Welp, I was never the culprit to begin with. Those damnable Gods were. I was just a poor sheep caught up in the whims of Gods. Just between you and me guys, I feel sh*t. My body ache-no, ache is an understatement. I feel like I can cross the river of stix anyminute now. "Your looks beg to differ, Kaiser" the Count said. Apparently he saw through my lies again. "Drink this for now, I'll come back again when you're awake" he said as he brought a vial with red liquid to my mouth. "It's a Greater healing potion" He said, as he saw the uncomfortable look on my face. Welp, I can't drink just anything given to me, even if it's the Count himself. "It's fine... Sir Count, I'll just rest for now.... I'll drink that when I woke up again" I said slowly as to catch my breath. I feel real sh*t right now. I want to close my eyes... "...You need to drink this now, Kaiser" the Count said. I couldn't see his expression clearly as my vision started to blur. Ah, f*ck. I can't see anyting. I feel cold... So cold... Why the f*ck is it so cold? "Ka..er! Kai.er! Kaiser! Wake up!" A voice? Ah, I can't hear you properly... Hhmm? Ah. It's the Count. "Drink this now, hurry" he said "It's a potion to heal you" I don't think I can move my arms... "My... apologies Sir... it seems that... I can't move... my body... once again..." I said, it's so difficult to speak. My mouth is starting to get numb... Yet, I feel like not wanting to drink the potion, as if to tell me that; it would be okay even if I didn't. As if saying that, everything will go back to normal... And the thought itself made me uncomfortable-no, frustrated. "...." the count said something, but I couldn't hear it. He then looked at me. "...." I can't understand a word he's saying, but the expression he has, gripped on my heart tightly. 'The face of someone who've lost everything' I inwardly thought. I didn't know how I've come to that conclusion as I haven't lost a member of my family when I was in my real world. Yet, I was sure of it. Moments later my vision darkened. ----- (Count Vinceral's POV) I was at the palace when a shadow showed up infront of us three. At first I was angered by the sudden intrusion of my subordinate infront of His Majesty. But the words that left the shadows mouth made me doubt my hearing. "What did you say?" I asked the shadow. His Majesty and Jacob, didn't reprimand the shadow as they are the people that created, and assigned them to me. They watched on as the shadow speak. "The church of the God of Creation Gist, have been destroyed by an unknown light. Main culprit: Unknown" the shadow said. The destruction of a church of a Great God, is a great sin. Anyone who dares intervene with the power of Gods are punished. Everyone knows that. And if an unknown light was the destroyer... Only one word can define it--'Divine Light'. A light so bright that it could even cover the light of the three suns. A light that brought an ancient race to extinction. That is the 'Divine Light'. And if it showed up in the God of Creation's church, it must've been stronger. But the real problem isn't the person or the reason it activate, the culprit might've died right now. The problem are the civilians. "Are any casualties?" Jacob asked the shadow. I couldn't bring myself to ask the question. I don't want to lose a part of my family again... "What about Caith?! Is she okay? Is my niece hurt?!" I asked. Desperate was I to know the condition of my dear elder-brother's child. I don't want him to experience the same thing that I have suffered for years. "Calm down, Rudolf" Jacob said. I know what you're trying to say... But I can't calm my emotions, my thoughts of having to lose someone dear once again. I can't bring myself to bear another death from my family. "Just take deep breathes. Answer his question first" Jacob said as he put a hand on my shoulder. I did as I was told, and took deep heavy breathes. "Hooo... Haaa..." I repeated the process 5x to calm my self. "Lady Caith Vinceral is unharmed. But her friend seems to be unconscious" the shadow said Hearing the words of the shadow, I felt energy leaving my body, but I withstood it. The civilians are also a concern. "I'm glad" I said "And, what about the civilians? And the other students?" "They are all unharmed, I didn't saw what happened as the light was so great, but..." the shadow trailed his word. As if not wanting to say the following words. "What is it?" Jacob asked. He must've felt the reluctance of the shadow to speak. "Speak of it" I ordered. The shadow took a deep breathe before speakin. "... I saw a black-haired and black eyes young man on the seen, and..." "Speak" "And... He was the most injured among them, I saw the flicker of the light for just a moment, but the church collapsed on that time-frame. Lady Caith and her friend were inside, but the moment the light flickered, I saw them outside, uninjured" The moment I heard the words black hair and black eyes. I felt a bad premonition. And it was true. The bad premoniton came to be. "T-the young man could it be?" I stuttered as I asked the question. I don't know why I wanted to hear the name of the person, I don't know why I want to hear another name from the shadow mouth. "It is as you've thought, Sire" the shadow said. *Boom* I dashed out of the council room, out to the long hallway, to the palace entrace and to the carriage. "Rudolf! Come back after you've done your business there!" Jacob said as he shouted from the palace's giant door. "Thanks! I will!" I shouted back as I took a white horse and rode it. "Where is Caith, right now?" I asked to the air. Yet, a voice answered. "Lady Caith is at their family's mansion in the 'Inner-Ring', she is currently watching over her friend" "What about Kaiser?" "He is nowhere to be seen, we are currently looking for him" "Take him to the medical room immediately and perform a first-aid treatment" An answer didn't come back as I gave my orders. It was a confirmation. I'm sure they will do their best to accomplished their jobs. "I need to check over my niece first. I need to make sure if Kaiser has any connection to the 'Divine Light'" I muttered as I rode towards the 'Noble District'. ----- (Caith's POV) 'Why aren't you waking up... Lili' I thought as I grasp the hand of my long-time friend. The physician said that there are no abnormalities in her, there are not wounds nor scrapes, yet she won't wake up. They said its not a matter of physical damage as they left. So I asked our teacher, the priest, to check on her condition. And nothing was found. Yes, nothing was found within her. No life, no mana, no divine energy as well. She is breathing, her chest heaved up and down whenever she breathes. Yet, no life was found within her. It's like she's alive, yet not. *Drip* *Drop* Ah. Without me knowing, tears fell from my eyes. I couldn't contain my emotions any longer, as I burried my cying face on the bed. Only my sobbing reverberating inside the room. I don't know how long I was crying, maybe it wasn't even an hour as I heard a knock on the door. *Knock* *Knock* "Caith, it's me" the warm gentle voice of someone. I knew this voie, as this voice was dear to me aswell. "Cone in, Uncle" I said. I brush the tears off my face and tidied my self up. "Are you alright?" My uncle asked, as he slowly opened the door "I heard what happened, but not in full, I've come to know the full story" he said as he walk towards us. My uncle is a great person, he as the youngest among them, became a knight on a young age, as he wouldn't be inheriting the household. Yet, because of that, he became a count, far stronger than my father, due to his merits. I've heard tales of him almost everyday back at home. Father would smile and laught as told us twins the story of our great Uncle. My brother became a knight to follow in my uncle footsteps. He lost his wife and only son. He was so devastated that he became so frail at that time. Father would always visit and bring him food, and console him. "Lili..." Uncle's words woke me up from my thoughts. Uncle is very fond of us twins as well my friend Lili, the daughter of his deceased comrade in arms. "What happened to her?" he asked, his face was so pitiful that it, grip my heart as if to wretch the life out of me. "The physician said that there's no wounds or any physical damage to her, but the priest told me that, she has no life, no mana and energy" I said as I looked at the sleeping oranged-haired girl besides me. "But... isn't she breathing?" he asked. "She is, but they said that her consciousness or soul is not within her" "..." uncle didn't said a word. He looked at Lili in pain. Then he put me in his embrace. "It's fine to cry out more, Caith" he said. My emotions began to overflow once again as I heard his words. I bawles my eyes out on uncle's chest as I continued crying. Then, after crying my heart's content. I told him what happened. The time I met wit Lili. The time when we went inside the churc. The part where the black-haired man appeared. The fear and fascination I felt. The uncomfortable part of being at ease looking at his eyes. The appearance of the light. The destruction of the church. The bloody appearance of the black-haired man as he carried Lili. And his disappearance. I didn't leave a single thing, as to get the best help I could get in order to wake Lili faster. "... I understand now, but I need to confirm something to the first himself to clarify everything" He said. "Have you found the man?" I asked, it seems uncle knows him. "We haven't, but he will return home, I'll asked him then" he said as he patted my head. "Take care over here, Caith. Look after Lili in my stead as well" Uncle went outside room and I was left with the sleeping Lili. "I will take good care of her, uncle." I said in a whisper.
