Connor's POV:
**Present Time**
We step in front of the pack, not a single one with out a questioning look on their face. Derik and Mallory are to our right with Andrew and Brittany to our left. I haven’t even thought about what Brittany and Andrew might be going through with her due this month. Everyone is looking to me and I don’t have the answers I had hoped I would have by now.
Obviously, Lexi can tell I am anxious because she starts to twirl her thumb in circles on the side of the hand she is holding. It relieves some of my stress and allows me to make the announcement we have come here to make. I drop her hand, giving her a small smile, I step forward.
“We have some important news. I know some of you saw me arrive this morning covered in filth and grime carrying a human girl who was injured and unconscious.”
There are some small gasps, so apparently the news didn’t spread as fast I as expected.
“Derik, Andrew, and I were patrolling the borders when we heard a scream. There was a girl who had been attacked by a rogue. We killed two of them and have one in custody.”
There are even more gasps and some murmuring throughout the pack. The nervous energy is getting worse. I haven’t felt the pack’s emotions like this since we were at war five years ago.
“I know this is concerning, since there were rogues on the edge of our property. You know we will get to the bottom of why they were so close to us. We also need to know why they attacked a human.”
There are a lot of the men nodding as they agree with my statement. I look back at Lexi and nod for her to join me in front. She steps forward grabbing my hand to show our unity.
“We have an important announcement. We do not understand why the Moon Goddess has made this choice for us, but we respect her and will help the pack through any changes this may bring upon us. Teresa was able to stop the girl’s transition and save her leg. However, she is in a coma and we are unsure of why. The Moon Goddess blessed Lexi and I with a second mate, which appears to be the girl in the coma.”
There are some wolves that growl, some that cry out, and some that just look like they don’t understand. I look at Lexi, hoping she can figure out what to say to calm them.
Lexi raises her hand to calm everyone down. “I know this news is extremely shocking. We still don’t understand everything, but we will in time. What I do know is, the Moon Goddess doesn’t burden us with things we cannot handle. We are the largest and strongest pack in the United States. We have never come against something we couldn’t beat.”
I could feel the energy in the clearing shift as she speaks. It as almost like she is soothing their emotions with her speech and her own emotions.
“I know the unknown is scary, but we, as a pack, can make it through anything. There is a prophecy book written by Teresa’s mother, who was a witch.”
Someone in the crowd yells, “Is Teresa a witch?”
“Teresa is a werewolf with some of the basic capabilities of a witch. She didn’t want to tell us that she was a witch when she joined our pack due to the prejudice our pack held against witches at the time. We all know the tale of orgins and what the Dark Witch did, but not all witches are bad,” I explain.
There were some members that nod there head, but there are a few that are starting to look a little spooked. Lexi continues what she was saying, “It says this girl has been blessed by the Moon Goddess herself and with her, the three of us will become the most powerful leaders of the werewolf species.”
“I am not going to lie and assume this doesn’t mean there might be a storm brewing in the our near future. In order for us to become strong, there might be some crazy s**t happen. However, we will persevere and rise above it. We are the Crimson Forest pack, and we didn’t become the most ruthless pack by bowing our heads and tucking our tails. We fight and that is exactly what we will do,” Lexi shouts the rest of her speech and pumps her fist into the air.
There are loud cheers and whoops throughout the pack. Even the wolves that seemed unsure and still spooked by the announcement are joining in. Damn, my mate is sexy when she takes charge. She gives me a wink and knowing smile. She knows she got me with that little speech and boy did she. I have to sidestep forward to adjust my pants slightly, so I’m more comfortable.
There are a few chuckles in the crowd from the knowing dominant males out there. “I couldn’t have said that any better than my beautiful mate did. Teresa believes there is more to the prophecy than we currently know. The Elders and I have decided that we need to discover what it says.”
The energy in the crowd is still high. I want the pack to know everything. Half-truths will divide the pack and foster trust issues. “Teresa can not uncloak her mother’s prophecy book, so we will be reaching out to fellow allies to see if we can find a trustworthy witch. The cloaked portion of the prophecy could give us more of a heads up on what we need to be prepared for, when it comes to how and why we will be more powerful.”
“We will hold more pack meetings if we discover any more details about the prophecy. We will introduce the girl to you as soon as she wakes up and has had time to adjust to her new world. If you have any questions or concerns, please bring them to our attention tomorrow. For the time being, I must take care of a mutt in the dungeons that hurt our mate. You are all dismissed.”
