Alexis's POV:
“I know in the end she regretted her choice, but she made one of the hardest decisions a parent will ever have to make. I don’t know that I would have been able to make the same one.” I stare at my feet. Brittany was a badass woman, and I don’t think our pack gave her the credit she deserved.
“You won’t know what choice you would choose unless you are faced with the same dilemma. I do agree that she was a badass and the pack should have respected her more. I do not mean to speak ill of her, but she did shy away from most of.”
I nod in agreement. She did shelter herself away from the pack which put a wedge between her and the pack. “I hope Andrew is able to make it through her death and Luca is enough of an anchor for him to try.”
“I think Andrew will have a rough time making it through things, but I know Luca will be his saving grace. I was there when Andrew held him for the first time. The love he held in his eyes for him was enough to put a smile on anyone’s face,” Teresa explains with a smile on her face.
“Is he in the room with Luca or did he go back to the packhouse to try to help figure out the arrangements for Brittany’s celebration of life?”
“He is in Luca’s room. Mallory is helping take care of that along with Sophia.”
“I should help them. That is my responsibility, not Sophia’s.”
“Luna, they know Sasha has just woken up and that you have a lot on your plate. Sophia assured me that she has everything under control and her and Mallory can handle it.”
I feel so blessed to know I have family and friends that will step up and help during difficult times. “I am going to go back to Sasha’s room. Am I okay to give her the estimate of her discharge time?
“Of course, Luna. If you can, you should get some sleep. It has been a rough couple of days. And I feel our struggle isn’t over.” She excuses herself as she heads towards her office.
I slumped down the wall and just sat on the floor in the hallway. I need a moment to breathe and relax. There has been so much happen in the last 72 hours. It has been incredibly stressful, and I just hope we all can make it through this.
Of course, we will make it through this. I know this has been hard, but do not forget who you are, nor what we have accomplished as a pack. I know. I probably just need to sleep. We do need sleep, but you need to eat first. When is the last time I sat down and ate a meal? I think yesterday at lunch when Teresa made you eat. She probably would have made you eat this time but didn’t realized you hadn’t.
I cut the link off and get up to head to Sasha’s room. As I enter, she is talking to someone. She gets off the phone quickly. “Who were you talking to?” I ask her suspiciously.
“I called my best friend, Aiden. I was missing for almost 4 days. Apparently, he filed a police report and is asking lots of questions. He doesn’t understand what is going on. We have to figure out what I am going to tell him,” she explains quickly. “Thank you for coming in when you did, it gave me a reason to excuse myself from the call.”
Before I have a chance to respond, Amelia walks into the room with lunch for both of us. “Teresa said you haven’t eaten in a while Luna. The only nutrients Sasha was receiving was through her feeding tube. We took it out when she woke up this morning, so you both should eat.” With that she drops the trays off and leaves us alone.
She is the more respectful nurse. I decide to drop the phone call situation and move all the way into the room. I arrange our trays, so that we can eat. They have brought us turkey and cheese sandwiches. There is also potato salad, chips, and grapes. We eat in silence, not uncomfortable, but just lost in our own thoughts.
She takes her last bite and lays back on the bed. She must be tired. Most of the people who come back, sleep for longer periods of time till they get fully rested. While their body sleeps, their minds are still active because they are will the Moon Goddess.
“Do you mind if I rest on the couch and stay in here with you?” I ask her hoping she is okay with me staying. I know she has just had a lot forced on her and she is probably still processing all of the events over the last several days.
“Sure. I don’t mind at all.” She turns on her side, facing me. I get up and move the trays around, so they are easy to grab while we rest. I grab my blanket from the end of the couch. I had been staying in here with Connor when we didn’t have things to do. We both wanted to be here when she woke up. I lay down facing her.
I can feel her eyes on me, and I give her the time to study me without the pressure of knowing she is being watched. She was thrown into our world with no time to consider everything. I dose off hoping Connor has some answers for us when we wake up. I am woken up by Amelia gently nudging my leg. “Luca, Sasha, may be released. All of her vitals have stayed consistent. Teresa said you have slept for a couple of hours along with your food and should be feeling better. She has a new wolf she is getting ready to take care of.”
“A new wolf?” I look at her with a puzzling look on my face.
“There was a rogue that made it on to our land and they are taking care of his injuries.” She says and then leaves the room.
I walk over to Sasha’s bedside. It looks like Mallory might have brought her some of my clothes because there are clothes sitting on the bedside table. She still has a few things attached to her, but I can take them off of her. Apparently, Amelia was needed elsewhere. I nudge Sasha’s arm. When she wakes up, she jerks her arm away and I cannot help but feel pain when she pulls away.
She notices the hurt on my face and apologizes. “No worries. A lot has happened, and it is going to take time to get to a good place after everything. You are being released. I am going to take everything off. I will leave so you can get dressed. We will be headed to the packhouse to meet Connor.”
I take the blood pressure cuff and the oxygen monitor off. “Here are some clothes. We have the same build, so they should fit you.” I step out of the room. After she finishes changing, she walks out of the room and we head to the packhouse. However, I am not prepared for what meets our eyes as we walk out of the pack hospital.
