Chapter 8: Why? PT 2

1510 Words
Andrew's POV:  I feel the couch dip and I look up from my hands. She is sitting there with a concerned look on her face. “I don’t regret being with you. I am not going to lie and wish that life would have played out different because I do. I am not of your world and I have never felt like I truly fit in.” “Why do you say that? I show you know nothing but love and support. Our friends accepted you with open arms and so did the pack.” “You don’t see the stares. You don’t get excluded because people forget about you. Rose doesn’t even talk to me often.” “Rose is apart of you and she can feel your resentment in your choices even if you don’t voice them. Our friends have never intentionally excluded you from anything. You keep yourself locked in our room and don’t try to be a part of the pack.” She is up in a flash. I hit a nerve and I can see the anger in her eyes. “Are you saying this is my fault?” she yells. “I am not saying it is your fault completely, but you don’t help the situation. I know we try to include you and you shy away from it. If you feel you are being judged, I am sorry, but I know the pack accepted you the day you said yes.” “It doesn’t feel like that.” With that she walks out of our room and slams the door. I just put my foot in my mouth and hurt her feelings more. I was trying to figure out what was going on and I just pushed her further away like the dumbass that I am. My mind snaps out of the fog I am in and I follow her. I get to the third floor and the smell hits me like a ton of bricks. Blood and it is Brittany’s. I turn the corner to the next flight leading the second floor and the sight on the stairs has me frozen in my steps. Brittany is laying on her stomach at the bottom of the stairs. There is blood all over her legs and it is still flowing. She has blood on her forehead and her hair is stained with it as well. She appears to be knocked out because she isn’t moving. I just stand there looking at her shocked at what I am seeing, not really focused on anything. DUDE, snap out of it. You need to help her. Cain’s voice breaks through my haze and I jump into action. I race to the bottom of the stairs and carefully flip her over, so I can see the extent of her injuries. She has a massive cut on her forehead. Her right arm is broken, as well as her left ankle. There is blood pouring from in between her legs. I immediately mind link Teresa. A: Teresa, Brittany fell down the stairs. She has several broken bones, a cut on her forehead, and she is bleeding. I think she might be losing the pup. I am on my way. I break the mind link, picking Brittany up. She is lifeless in my arms and I am struggling to keep it together. I can feel my heart breaking with every step. There is blood dripping down my arms as I finally make it to the pack hospital. Teresa is waiting outside of the doors with her team and a gurney. “What happened?” Teresa says breathless as she moves Brittany to the gurney. “I was trying to figure out what was going on with her because she wasn’t acting like herself and we both said things that could have been explained differently. She took off out of the room and I didn’t follow immediately. When I got to the stairs to the second floor she was at the bottom laying on her stomach, not moving.” I explain, as the tears start to stream freely down my face. “Andrew, we have got her. If she wakes up, I will call you in. We might have to deliver the pup early, is that okay?” she asks. “Please, do whatever you have to do to save them both.” With that, she starts shouting orders at her team, as they pull the gurney in to the pack hospital. I follow until they make it to the operating room. I just stand at the door lost in my own world hoping she and our pup will make it through this. ** Present Time ** I hear the pack hospital door bust open and that is when I see them, my friends with fear and concern on their faces. They are covered in blood just like me. The rogue is probably dead, hopefully they were able to get some answers beforehand. They make it over to me and I know they are waiting for me to explain what is going on. They sit down on the floor and I explain everything that happened from the time of me entering the room until bringing her here. They listened without interruption, but I can tell Lexi is pissed. “What did you expect to happen? You made it out that all of this is her fault and it isn’t. She has a right to feel however she does, and you made her feelings invalid,” she whisper shouts. She stands and starts to pace. She is fuming and being a little erratic. Alice is fueling this little outburst and I hope she doesn’t completely take control. I bow my head in defeat. She isn’t saying anything I don’t already know. “I know Lexi. I f****d up. I cannot change what was said, I can only pray to the Moon Goddess that she is okay and that our pup pulls through. I don’t know…” “I am sorry. I am still amped up because of what we learned from the rogue. I know you weren’t trying to attack her. Sometimes when you guys are concerned, your brains don’t work properly,” she interrupts. “What do you mean? What did the rogue say and why are you all covered in so much blood? What happened?” Lexi appears to be calming down and sits next to Connor as they explain what went on with the rogue on the torture floor. I am in disbelief as I look at Lexi and ask, “You cut his d**k off?” I’m kind of in awe of her. I mean I know she can be ruthless, however, cutting a man’s junk off is entirely out of left field. A huge smile spreads across her face almost as if she is reliving it. “I did. The fucker was playing games and I was done. I wanted answers and I figured the pain he was in would be a motivating factor if I promised to kill him quickly rather than him suffer through the blood loss.” “Who is this rogue Alpha? How was he able to start a pack with that many rogues? They don’t play nice, nor see each other as being in charge.” Connor is the one to respond, “I don’t know. He said we know who he is. We took his pack down five years ago. He must be apart of the pack Teresa original belonged to. We will have to discuss this with her after we know Brittany and the pup are okay.” “My concern is that he was getting ready to explain why they attacked your mate. Then he received the mind link. I know why you killed him, but I cannot help but wonder what he was getting ready to say,” Derik says almost as he is speaking his thoughts out loud. “Who do you think was mind linking him? We killed the other two rogues. I didn’t smell any one else around after we talked to you and headed back to the pack,” I ask Connor, even though I know what he probably thinks. “I think it was his Alpha. We are able to link you at further distances with less discomfort,” Connor replies. Lexi includes, “It could have been a mate.” I am getting ready to ask a question when I hear a baby scream. My head snaps to the operating room door. Our baby is here. What about Brittany is she okay. Then I feel it. My heart breaks and I know she is gone. She left me and our pup. Why?
