My eyes shot open at the sound of my door slamming open. I shot up and looked at the intruder poised to attack. "put that down crazy." Storm chastized me as she threw clothes at both me and Alex. I looked at her confused and she turned her worried face to me. "we need our leaders ... Mrs.Terra ... something has happened ... her ... and her son."
My eyes hardened and i nodded shaking alex awake. "Alex... somethings wrong and we need to go do our job... " he rubbed his face and yawned looking at the clock and groaning at the time ... it was five am.
"what happened my love?" he got up and started to pull on the clothes thrown at him.
Storm pulled her lips tight till they looked like a line "Mrs.Terra at the nursery was found with a partially decomposed skull this morning when me and a couple other guards were checking our children in so we could head to training... ot appears to be some sort of poison or venom ... her son was still asleep in the nursery meaning she was likely attacked when trying to lock up for the night."
Alex paused and blinked "Oh wow ... I am so sorry ... who do we have on figuring out what the substance is?"
Edmund popped his head in behind Storm. "Your healer sir... Mrs.Storm ... Rayne and the other children have been secured at Mrs. Terra's mothers home ... and she has agreed to keep Kaii and become his guardian." Storm nodded and sighed
"Okay ... well you two hurry up ... there is much investigation to be done ... and we need Everly and her spells ... " and with that Storm and Edmund left us to finish getting ready.
Alex furrowed his brow "you know more magic than anybody knows don't you"
I nod slowly and sheepishly grin "My father secretly taught me everything he could before he died... " He nodded and we started our walk to the office.
"maybe you can teach me some?" he asked hopefully and i nodded as my mothers shrill voice reached my ears "SHE DOESN'T KNOW ANY OF THAT MAGIC YET WHY ARE THEY BEING CALLED" I break into a run and stand in front of my mother.
"You unfortunately don't know what magic i know as you yourself had never taught me anything you relied on sub par schooling to teach the next leader of this great people ... My father on the other hand taught me levitation, tracking, cloaking and much more ... he would have continued to teach me but he was taken from us." I narrow my eyes at her and press past her into MY office where the head guard was with evidence.
I sighed and slammed my hand down "please tell me there is something i can track, trace, or identify?" the entire room stared at me as i looked around with almost looks of horror. "what?"
Alex cleared his throat "hun ... you are a little scary right now ... lets calm down while they explain what was found so we can figure out how to proceed."
I nod and sigh sitting down as Alex conjures me a cup of chamomile and honey tea and I gesture to our new healer.
she steps forward "yes hello nice to meet you my name is Shinra I truly wish we were able to have met under different circumstances" i nod in acknowledgement "yes ofcorse ... i examined the ooze that was dispelling from the women's head ... it is not a known substance ... it tests negative for all poisons, drugs, and known venoms."
I nod again and take a sip of my tea to keep me from showing the disappointment in her answer. "Thank you Shinra for your valiant effort in this case ... were there any other injuries? or was her brain just melted within her skull?"
"that was the only injury ma'am"
I sigh and wave a hand. "you may be dismissed thank you again."
Her face dropped "I thought we all stayed till the meeting ended?"
"Not for cases like this ... myself and Alex ofcorse will see all evidence as well as the lead investigator," a small man waved ," my head of defense, Ember," a woman with a black mohawk and pale skin waved ," and our personal body guards." she nodded in understanding and pressed her lips together in a thin line dipping into a short bow and exiting the room.
I turn to the room, "anyone i did not mention have anything to add?" the two others shook their heads and took a leave as well.
I turned to the small man "Samuel ... will you please keep me updated on anything you find?"
he grinned "actually ma'am... with all due respect ... the camera saw a reptilian tail just outside the frame ... it is hard to tell what it is bit i believe it to be a dragon tail." He explained with excitement.
all movements of my body stopped and my head snapped to look at him. My face scrunched as if someone suggested i eat a year old egg they just found. His grin faltered. "Did you just suggest an ancient being that is supposed to be extinct came back to kill one of the nursery maids?" i said my voice dripping with sarcasm at his incredulous suggestion.
"y-y-yes m-m-ma'am ... it looks just like the books say ... and if the prophecies are to be coming true any time soon .... there will be dragons again."
I sigh and start massaging my head "thank you .... if you find any other evidence that will lead us to this 'dragon' please let me know ... i need something to track it down."
"yes ma'am... may i take leave to go look more?" I nod and wave my hand at the door.
after the door closes a gesture to the chair in front of me "Ember ... please have a seat" she plops in the chair ... Ember has been my friend as long as Storm has and she smiles at me .
"so you couldn't have peace for fifteen hours could you?" she pointed at my tea " if you don't drink that it'll get cold ... we both know you hate cold tea"
i sigh and grab my tea "Ember ... no signs of forced entry ... nothing on camera ... that means someone has betrayed us ... is it that bad that i have taken over?" I take a sip.
Alex clears his throat and i jump ... i honestly forgot he was sitting in here. "Hun ... you did not take over .... you were passed the workload"
Ember scoffed, "no bro ... yall took over ... specifically she took over ... the power went from being in yalls mothers hands to both circles being handed to Everly ... you had to marry before taking your coven because you are not a priestess ... Everly could have taken her coven on her own because she doesn't need a priest ... the people however are not mad that you took over ... they are apprehensive about the joining of circles so suddenly ... so many new people all at once ... and i am sure your circle Alex .. they feel a little overwhelmed ... moving across a large distance to be absorbed by a larger coven that may or may not worship the same goddess ... have the same holidays... eat the same food ... no ... someone had a job to do and they did it ... or are doing it either way ... we have to figure out who it is and why." she was ofcorse right ... Ember had always been the brains of the trio while Storm was the muscles and i was the heart.
Alex rubbed his face "and not to mention ... a few of my members don't like me ... they were hoping i would fail and the leadership would be up to vote."
I looked at him incredulously "well they will have to get over that because I am in charge now." i looked back to Ember "Em ... can you sweep the border and make sure we didn't miss anything? ... then see if anyone without kids went to the nursery yesterday ... even for a moment ... i don't trust Samuel right now ... he is acting ... strange" we all nodded and ember made to leave
"Its ok Everly ... we will find who did this" and she left. I sighed heavily and Alex put his arm around me standing behind my chair trying to comfort me.
"Everly ... there isn't much we can do right now till more evidence is brought up .. why don't we go have breakfast"
I pout and shake my head "not hungry"
Alex chuckled in his low seductive voice. "you might not be hungry but i heard they were making waffles at the mess hall and they were putting out a fruit bar for it" his grin set in ... place, set. my eyes widened and my stomach growled and he chuckled again offering his hand. I looked at him his face so full of adoration and i slipped my tiny hand into his large one ... Match ... he won. and we were off to the mess hall.
