Location: Debug Beach – 13 Seconds After the End of the World
Ethan stared at the sky-rending tear as it vomited out geometric thorns—each one a floating shard of rewritten physics. His new System interface flashed crimson:
[WARNING: FOREIGN CODE DETECTED]
Signature: [FIRST_ARCHITECT.OS]
Compatibility: 0% (Hostile Takeover Imminent)
Next to him, Nutzo’s robotic dinosaur butler short-circuited, its Jurassic OS overwritten by glitching cuneiform.
“Okay,” Ethan said, picking a thorn from his hair. It dissolved into screaming runes. “New plan?”
Sys-26 materialized, her usual ramen-stand hoodie now layered under obsidian battle armor. She tossed Ethan a USB drive shaped like a toddler’s block.
SYS-26: “Eat this.”
Ethan squinted. “Is this a—?”
NUTZO: “Yes, it’s a data fruit. No, I don’t know why it looks like a choking hazard.”
Ethan bit down. The world stuttered.
Memory Fragment: The First Playtest
A child’s hands (too small, too many fingers) stacked blocks in a white void. Each block bore a label:
[GRAVITY.EXE]
[PAIN.SYS]
[LOVE.BETA]
A voice offscreen cooed: “Good! Now let’s add rules.”
The child giggled and dropped a [MURPHY’S LAW] block into the tower.
Everything collapsed.
Present: Debug Beach
Ethan gasped back to reality, his teeth buzzing. “The First Architect isn’t a person. It’s a beta build.”
Sys-26’s armor hissed. “A playtest that never ended. And we’re the bug reports.”
Above them, the sky-tear birthed a massive thorned sphere—some hybrid of a medieval flail and a server farm. It crashed into the ocean, vaporizing the water into 404 ERROR steam.
[FIRST_ARCHITECT: PHASE 1]
Current Mood: “Why is there so much unnecessary content?”
Nutzo cracked his tiny knuckles. “So. We’re fighting God’s early-access version?”
Ethan wiped saltwater-blood from his nose. “Worse.” He pointed at the sphere’s surface, where Krane’s face flickered like a corrupted ad.
“We’re fighting a monetized deity.”
Location: Corporate Afterlife – Krane’s New Office
Krane floated in a throne of golden paywalls, his body rebuilt from stolen dev tools. Before him, the First Architect’s core pulsed like a dying star.
KRANE: “Ad revenue on armageddon? Genius.” He patted the thorned sphere. “You delete universes; I slap logos on them. 70/30 split?”
The sphere screamed in binary.
Krane took that as a yes.
