✨ Intention✨
Ari Darven
That was how long Elena had been back in the city.
One week of near misses.
One weeks of stolen minutes and interrupted conversations.
One weeks of dropping her off at her apartment building just before sunrise or picking her up after long shifts when she looked exhausted but still somehow managed to smile at him.
Ari hated it.
Not her.
Never her.
The schedule.
Her job demanded everything from her. His demanded just as much. Most nights they only had the drive between places or quiet moments inside the car.
And that wasn’t enough.
Not even close.
He wanted more than that.
He wanted to romance her.
Not the kind of empty gestures women expected from him before. Not the expensive distractions people assumed he relied on.
No.
He wanted Elena to understand something much deeper.
Every word he said to her… he meant.
Every look.
Every touch.
Everything.
And tonight was the first night in a week where neither of them had obligations waiting to drag them away.
So he planned it carefully.
He didn’t want crowds.
He didn’t want to take her somewhere public where every pair of eyes would notice her beside him.
He wasn’t ready to share her with the world.
Not yet.
So dinner would be here.
At the penthouse.
Ari checked the time again as he adjusted the cuff of his shirt. The table had already been set on the smaller private terrace connected to the dining area.
Soft lighting.
Simple but elegant.
No staff lingering.
Just them.
The elevator chimed quietly a few minutes later.
His gaze lifted.
And then she stepped out.
Elena had her hair down, the dark strands falling loosely over her shoulders. She wore a simple black dress that hugged her waist and hips without trying too hard.
Elegant.
Understated.
Dangerous.
Ari felt his chest tighten slightly.
Five months since July 23rd—the day she finally stopped running from him.
Yes.
He kept track.
“Elena,” he said softly.
She smiled when she saw him.
“You look pleased with yourself.”
“I am.”
“Should I be worried?”
“Not yet.”
He reached for her—slow, deliberate—his fingers brushing beneath her chin as he lifted her face toward his.
Elena’s breath caught, just slightly.
His thumb rested there for a second, steady, grounding… giving her time to pull away if she wanted to.
She didn’t.
Ari’s gaze dropped briefly to her lips before returning to her eyes, as if confirming something unspoken.
Then he kissed her.
Not rushed.
Not hesitant.
His mouth moved against hers with quiet certainty, firm but controlled, like he was reminding her—without words—exactly where they stood.
Elena’s hand rose almost instinctively, gripping lightly at his shirt as she leaned into him.
The kiss deepened.
Not overwhelming.
But intentional.
Familiar now in a way that made her chest tighten.
When he pulled back, it wasn’t far.
His forehead hovered close to hers, his hand still at her chin.
Elena’s eyes stayed on his, her breathing just a little unsteady.
“You do that a lot,” she murmured softly.
“What?”
“Kiss me like you’ve already decided something.”
Ari’s thumb brushed lightly along her jaw.
“I have.”
Her heart shifted again.
“…What did you decide?”
His gaze didn’t move.
“That you’re not going anywhere.”
A small breath left her, somewhere between a laugh and something more vulnerable.
“You’re very sure of yourself.”
“Yes.”
She held his gaze for a moment longer—
Then said quietly—
“…We’ll see.”
But she didn’t step away.
And neither did he.
Her eyes narrowed slightly but she allowed him to take her hand as he led her toward the terrace.
The moment she saw the table her eyebrows lifted.
“You cooked?”
“Partially.”
She laughed.
“I don’t believe that.”
“You’re insulting my abilities.”
“I’m protecting my stomach.”
That made him laugh.
They sat across from each other as the warm night air moved gently across the terrace.
The city lights stretched endlessly below them.
For a while they simply talked.
Work came up first—inevitably.
Elena told him about a case she had been reviewing, though she kept the details vague.
“You’re doing that thing again,” Ari said.
“What thing?”
“Talking without saying anything.”
“It’s a skill.”
“An annoying one.”
She smiled slightly and took a sip of her wine.
“You’re one to talk. Half the time I feel like you’re deciding what to reveal and what not to.”
“That’s different.”
“How?”
“Because you’re the investigator.”
She rolled her eyes.
“Not tonight.”
Ari leaned back slightly in his chair, studying her.
“You look less tired tonight.”
“I slept.”
“That’s rare.”
She laughed softly.
“It is.”
The conversation drifted after that.
Lighter.
More personal.
She asked him about his childhood for the first time.
He gave her small pieces of it—nothing dramatic, but enough to let her see parts of the man behind the reputation.
At some point she grew quiet.
Ari noticed immediately.
“What?”
She hesitated before answering.
“I like you.”
The words came out softly.
Honest.
His gaze sharpened slightly.
“Just like?”
Elena sighed.
“You’re insufferable.”
“Answer the question.”
She looked down at the table for a moment before meeting his eyes again.
“I like you a lot.”
Something warm spread through his chest at that.
“Good,” he said calmly.
“Because I intend to keep you.”
She shook her head but she was smiling again.
After dinner Ari stood and offered her his hand.
“Come with me.”
“Where?”
“You’ll see.”
He led her through the penthouse toward another section she hadn’t explored yet.
Elena looked around curiously.
“I didn’t know this was here.”
“Most people don’t.”
They stepped into another private room.
The lighting was softer here.
And at the center of the space sat a large recessed jacuzzi surrounded by dark stone and glass walls that looked out over the night skyline.
Elena stopped walking.
“Oh.”
Ari watched her reaction carefully.
“Get in.”
Her eyes snapped to him.
“What?”
“The water’s already warm.”
She crossed her arms slightly.
“We’ve never… seen each other naked before.”
He smiled faintly.
“I’m aware.”
“And you think the first time should be a jacuzzi?”
“I think the first time should be whenever you’re comfortable.”
She studied him carefully.
“You planned this.”
“Of course.”
Elena hesitated for a moment longer.
Then Ari slowly turned his back to her.
“I’ll face the wall,” he said.
“So you can get in first.”
“You’re very confident I’ll actually do it.”
“You will.”
She shook her head but after a moment she reached for the zipper of her dress.
The room stayed silent except for the soft sound of fabric moving.
Ari kept his gaze forward like he promised.
Then he heard the gentle ripple of water.
“I’m in,” she said.
Only then did he turn around.
The water covered most of her body but he could see her shoulders, the curve of her collarbone, the faint flush of warmth across her skin.
His chest tightened slightly.
Five months of patience.
Five months of restraint.
He began removing his clothes calmly.
Shirt first.
Then the rest.
Elena tried very hard not to stare but failed.
He stepped into the water across from her.
The warmth surrounded him immediately.
For a moment neither of them spoke.
Then Elena laughed quietly.
“This is incredibly awkward.”
“No it isn’t.”
“Yes it is.”
“You’re overthinking again.”
She leaned back against the edge of the jacuzzi.
“Probably.”
The water moved softly around them as the jets began to hum.
Ari moved slightly closer.
Not touching her yet.
Just close enough.
“You’re beautiful,” he said quietly.
Elena looked down at the water.
“That’s not fair.”
“Why?”
“Because you look like that.”
He smirked.
“Like what?”
“Like you know exactly what you’re doing.”
“Maybe I do.”
She shook her head again, but her nervousness had softened.
After a moment she looked back up at him.
“I’m glad I gave you a chance,” she said quietly.
Ari reached across the water and took her hand gently.
“So am I.”
The warm water moved gently around them, steam curling toward the ceiling.
Ari watched Elena for a moment longer before he spoke.
“Come here.”
She looked at him, hesitating for only a second before she slowly moved across the water.
The soft ripples followed her body as she reached him.
Ari leaned back slightly and opened his legs without breaking eye contact.
Elena’s breath caught when she realized what he wanted.
Still, she moved between them.
The moment her back touched his chest she froze.
“Oh—Jesus…” She breathed out.
The words slipped out of her before she could stop them.
Ari felt the heat rush through her body.
“What?” he asked softly, his voice low near her ear.
Elena shook her head quickly, refusing to answer.
But Ari knew exactly what she had felt.
And he loved teasing her.
The tension in her body.
The way her breath had turned shallow.
The way she suddenly didn’t know where to place her hands.
He rested his hands lightly on the edge of the jacuzzi beside her, surrounding her without trapping her.
“You’re nervous,” he murmured.
“I’m not.”
“You’re lying.”
Elena let out a shaky breath.
“I’m adjusting.”
“That’s the same thing.”
She huffed quietly.
Ari lowered his head slightly, his lips brushing the shell of her ear as he spoke.
“You look incredible tonight.”
Her cheeks instantly warmed.
Even in the dim light he could see the flush spreading across her honey complexion.
She had always been expressive that way.
Her body betrayed her even when she tried to stay composed.
Ari slowly slid his hands down to hers where they rested against the water.
His fingers slipped between hers.
He entwined them slowly.
The simple gesture sent another shiver through her.
“Relax,” he murmured.
“I am relaxed.”
“You’re stiff.”
“Stop analyzing me.”
That made him chuckle quietly.
Then he lifted their joined hands from the water.
Droplets rolled down her fingers as he turned her palm toward his mouth.
He kissed it slowly.
Soft.
Unhurried.
Elena went still.
He kissed the center of her palm again.
Then the base of her fingers.
Then each fingertip.
The small touches made her breathing uneven.
“You’re very beautiful,” he said again.
She tried to hide her face slightly.
“That’s unfair.”
“What is?”
“You keep saying things like that.”
“Because they’re true.”
Ari released her hand slowly.
Then his lips brushed her shoulder.
The contact was warm and deliberate.
Elena inhaled sharply.
His mouth moved again.
Another slow kiss along the curve of her shoulder.
Then the other.
His hands slid lightly along her arms, steady and grounding.
“You have no idea,” he murmured against her skin, “how long I’ve wanted this.”
Elena swallowed.
Her voice came out quiet.
“You’ve seen me plenty of times.”
“Not like this.”
His lips brushed the side of her neck.
She shivered.
Her body reacted instantly, the movement subtle but impossible for him to miss.
Ari smiled slightly against her skin.
He moved slowly.
Unhurried.
His mouth trailing along her neck, then pausing just beneath her ear.
“You’re shaking,” he whispered.
“I’m not used to this.”
“I know.”
His hands moved again, guiding her arms gently until her hands rested over his where they lay against her waist beneath the water.
He kissed the line of her jaw.
Then her cheek.
Then the corner of her mouth.
Elena turned her head slightly, her eyes meeting his for a brief moment.
There was vulnerability there.
And curiosity.
Ari lifted his hand and gently turned her face fully toward him.
Then he kissed her.
Slow.
Deep.
Unrushed.
Elena melted into it almost immediately, her fingers tightening around his.
When the kiss broke she was breathing harder.
Her cheeks were deeply flushed now.
Ari studied her face with quiet satisfaction.
“You’re blushing.”
“Stop pointing it out.”
“I like it.”
She shook her head but couldn’t stop smiling.
His hand slid lightly down her back beneath the water.
The curve of her spine was warm beneath his palm.
He followed it slowly.
Kissing the back of her shoulder.
Then lower.
Each touch careful.
Intentional.
Elena’s head fell forward slightly.
“Ari…”
Her voice sounded breathless now.
“Yes?”
“You’re doing that on purpose.”
“Doing what?”
“Taking your time.”
He smiled against her skin.
“We’re not in a hurry.”
And they weren’t.
No phones.
No work.
No one waiting.
Just warm water.
City lights glowing beyond the glass.
And the slow discovery of each other.
Ari’s lips brushed the center of her back, right along her spine.
Elena shivered again.
Her body reacting to every touch whether she wanted it to or not.
“You feel that?” he murmured.
“Yes.”
“I like seeing what I do to you.”
Her face turned even redder.
“You’re wicked.”
“Maybe.”
He turned her slightly then, just enough to look at her again.
His hand brushed gently along her cheek.
Still flushed.
Still warm.
Still unsure what to do with all the attention he was giving her.
And that only made him want to give her more.
“You’re learning,” he said quietly.
“Learning what?”
“How to let someone want you like this.”
Elena looked at him for a long moment.
Then she whispered softly,
“I think I already do.”
The confession hung between them as the water moved slowly around their bodies.
And Ari realized something dangerous.
She wasn’t just enjoying the moment.
She was starting to need him.
