Marie"s head and cheek throbbed as she tried to open her eyes. She felt worse than when she tried recovering from a margarita hangover, and she couldn"t quite remember what had just happened. Her feet and hands were bound with tape, and she could taste the dry rag as it pressed against her tongue and the corners of her mouth. She slowly began to focus her eyes in the dark room and saw newspaper clippings taped all over the wall. The room smelled of earth and mold and felt damp beneath her. There was a tiny window at the top corner of the room which cast a shadow of a shrub leading her to believe she was in some sort of a basement.
