Niko and I have a plan. Today, The Alpha and Luna have a pack event to attend. It's most likely a meeting to discuss any situations with rogues or vampires or even rival packs. Recently though, we've struck a treaty with our main rivals, the Silver Claws. We don't really have any issues with rogues or vampires so the event is mainly just an excuse for the higher ups to drink and socialize. Which means They'll be out most of the night.
When they leave, Niko will sneak into the Alpha's office and hunt for any info on a "Blood Moon Pack". Niko is already frequently in Dad's office since he's his heir. His scent is already all over that office so it won't raise any suspicion. hopefully Niko will find something.
At around 5 AM, Niko goes into his own room, and I head down to the kitchen to start the day. I make breakfast as usual. Niko is the first at breakfast, soon followed by the Alpha and Luna. I wash the pots and pans before sitting down at the table. Niko actually put food on a plate for me to make sure I got some this morning. this makes me smile.
I eat my breakfast slowly. My stomach is flipping from nerves and stress. As soon as everyone is done eating, I get up and finish the rest of the dishes. I do the rest of my daily chores and then, to avoid pissing off the Alpha, I go up to my room. There's not really much to do so I sit down at my desk and just doodle.
There's still a few hours before the Alpha and Luna will leave so I'm just trying to keep myself busy. In my head, Ember is talking up Niko. She can't shut up about him, which is frustrating. I'm still really confused about everything. I know that we think Niko isn't really my brother, but we don't know for sure. what if he is? If he is my brother, then what happened last night is disgusting. Not cute.
I look down at the paper I was sketching on and see Niko's eyes staring back at me. With a groan, I crumple up the paper and toss it in the trash, rubbing my face with my hands in frustration. I lay my head down on my desk, using my arms as a pillow. I guess I must have fallen asleep like that because next thing I know, Niko is knocking on my bedroom door, waking me up.
I open the door and look up at him, rubbing my eyes. "They gone?", I ask with a voice hoarse from sleep. Niko flashes me that crooked smile. It's clear he's amused by my sleepy voice. "yup. I tried to let you know over Mind-link but it looks like somebody fell asleep."
I roll my eyes at him and cross my arms. "What are you waiting for, then? Go check the office." He looks at me for a moment, his grin turning into a bit of a smirk. He runs a finger up my chin, tilting my head so that I'm looking up at him, "You could say please, ya know?"
Those blue eyes really are gonna be the death of me. I gulp and speak in a slightly softer tone, "Please, Niko?" Niko sighs and removes his hand from my chin. He looks away for a moment, crossing his arms. The look on his face is hard to read.
"I'll go in a minute. But first, can we just-Can we talk about last night?", He asks. I take in a sharp breath before exhaling slowly, "It shouldn't have happened. I should have had more self control. and so should you." Niko scoffs, "Believe me, I showed a tremendous amount of self control. If I hadn't, we would have gone a lot further."
My heart skips a beat in my chest at the mere mention of that. I shake my head, growing frustrated, "We're siblings!" Niko takes a step back at my outburst and his voice starts to raise as well, "I don't think we are! Ravyn, you don't look like mom or dad. you don't look like me. you don't even look like our grandparents. And I saw the drawing you did of your wolf. No one in our pack has a red wolf! And that's not even to mention your dreams-"
"None of that proves anything!", I yell in frustration, "We were raised together! My dreams might not mean anything! And everything else is just....circumstantial. And even if we aren't biologically related, it's weird! I've always seen you as my big brother. I can't just go from that, to being with you in a matter of days all because of a stupid feeling!"
Niko raises his hand to his chest, his expression looking almost injured. My wolf whines. Niko's voice is soft and shaky, " 'a stupid feeling'? Ravyn I love you. And I think I have for a while. I told you, that's why I pulled away. because I thought it was for the best. but now, everything is different. we're FATED to each other. We BELONG to each other. The moon Goddess wouldn't do that to us if we were actually related."
I hug my arms to my chest and stare at the floor, "Niko, I don't want to talk about this right now. Can we ... Can we just worry about the other stuff first? Let's find out the truth. And then take everything else from there." Niko sighs and nods, "Alright. that's reasonable. I can do that. Just give me a few minutes and I'll let you know if I find anything interesting."
Niko turns and walks off, heading into the office. I sigh and go back into my room, shutting my door and sitting on my bed. I feel so confused. There's still that feeling of disgust that I have with myself for what happened last night. But there's something else too. An emptiness. I bury my face in my hands, trying not to cry. Ember is in my head, "He's right, ya know. You can't keep fighting the mate bond. It's not made to be ignored."
I slump backwards on my bed, staring up at the ceiling. "Niko is my brother. Even if we're not related by blood. It doesn't matter how I feel. He's still my brother. I grew up with him. It's wrong. Besides, what would people think?"
Ember is quiet after that.
It's a full hour before I hear Niko over mind link, "I got something." I walk over to my door and open it up. Niko is already standing there. He pushes past me and walks over to my desk with me following closely behind him. "What is it?", I ask.
He sets a stapled packet of papers down on my desk. "Well it's not a book. But I found typed out documentation about some kind of rivalry our pack used to have with another called Blood Moon.", He says, "It says they had plans to attack us and Dad had our warriors wipe them out." I sigh and look over the papers, shaking my head, "I don't understand. why would I have a dream about a pack that doesn't even exist anymore?"
Niko takes a sharp inhale of breath before speaking softly, "Ravyn. Just flip to the last page." I flash him a curious look before turning to the last page. It goes into detail about everything we knew about the pack before we wiped them out. Their strengths, their weaknesses, even identifying characteristics about some of them. My breath hitches in my throat when I get to the information about their wolves. My voice comes out a lot shakier than I intended, "They were red."
