Chapter Two.
Two Weeks Later
Alodia.
Earning the chance to ride in the backseat while watching nature would have thrilled me any other day, but today isn't one. I'm on my way to that control freak's house, and I can't help but be amazed by the area.
The field is perfectly trimmed, and the streets are all designed with fountains here and there. Finally, we come to a stop in front of a magnificent home.
My eyes are big as I access Cole's house. It looks like something that's born from a fantasy world or that you see on social media. The size isn't more than a bungalow, but the architectural design is something I haven't seen in my life before.
The driver comes to open the door for me, placing me in a shy state. "Uh, thank you," I stammer as I hop down.
With his gaze cut from me, he mentions, "I'll get your bags inside. Please, head in."
A smile creeps up my face as I walk inside. The entire compound ground is covered in real grasses. The house is in the heart of a forest, shades of green surrounding the entire space. And right in front of the house, a short distance away, is a lake that reflects the wonders of the sky.
It's surreal. Inside the house, an older woman in a brown scarf covering her entire head and a dress that flows down her body welcomes me with a warm smile. "Hello, Miss Penelope. My name is Sarah, and I'll be overlooking your stay here, including your eating and clothing routine and anything that has to do with indoor activities. Shall we start with walking you to your room, please?"
The woman has an attractive tone that makes me nod my head and follow behind her after saying, "Yes, please. Thank you."
I have no words to describe the authenticity of everything in this house, but I can tell that it's antique and rich. Just by one's sight, you can tell millions were spent here, and the ethereal smell of nature is potent.
We walk up the stairs to my room, which leaves me astonished as well. I think green has got to be Cole's favourite, because of the mixture of royal and forest green that I've been seeing all around. My bed is positioned close to a large window that gives an eastern view, taking a part of the lake as well. I want to see how it'll look at night.
I've almost forgotten that Mrs Sarah is here too, who takes a step back as she informs. "I'll take my leave so you can settle down."
I take one long look around the room again and even touch a few items, feeling their fine texture on my fingers. Oh, my...I feel so poor right now.
Sighing heavily, I head to the closet where I see different kinds of clothes, shoes, bags, and accessories that all seem to be my size. Trying on a piece of cloth confirmed that, and my brows furrowed, bewildered. I never gave Cole my body measurement, but then a man like him, I believe there's nothing he can't get.
My phone rings just in time, and I see that it's Victoria. Picking up her call, I roll my eyes. "Girl, I thought you were kidnapped already. You didn't pick up my calls."
"Well, I do now." I pause and bite my lower lip. "This place is surreal. It's magnificent. I can't believe it."
"Ah, thank God I forced you to sign that contract. Now, don't get too bought by that wealth. The mission to get your share, don't you forget."
"Yes, ma'am. Something funny though. Mr. Remington has the closet filled with things that are actually my size." I tell Victoria and she laughs.
She's giggling under her voice. "That asshole is all kinds of freak, but well, he's got money. That makes him perfect."
I roll my eyes again even though she can't see me, about to insult her when a knock lands on the door. "I need to leave. Someone's here."
"Call me later." I hear her say before I head to the door, opening it to see Mrs Sarah.
"Pardon me, but I'd like you to know that dinner will be ready in a few hours."
"Oh, thank you." I reply to her, returning her warm smile right before she walks away.
With the door closed behind me, I finally go to the bed and lie on it. Jeez, it's so soft. Having pressed my phone for some time, I realise I've spent half an hour in the room. My eyes shift to the window, and a thought to explore nature raids my mind.
When I appear in the living room, I don't see anyone, so I take it upon myself to do some sightseeing. Soon, I'm outside, brushing my hands over the fine grasses. In the distance is a beautiful artistic fountain, where water is splashing through an eagle's eyes.
To the left of this green magical house is a small garden. I'm adoring the flowers when a voice jerks me up, causing me to flinch and jump to my back. "Hello there."
"Goodness!"
"My apologies. I didn't mean to scare you." A man dressed in a flannel shirt, brown coat, woollen pants, and leather shoes approaches me with a stunningly hot smirk. His brown hair is gelled to the back, leaving only a few strands to stream down his forehead. His green eyes are evident and mesmerising. The golden watch on his wrist seems to glitter under the warm weather.
He stops in front of me and introduces. "Name's Casper. Cole's brother. When he told me he wouldn't be home, he left out an important detail—that he has an angel here." The man stretches for my hand and kisses the back. "What's your name, Miss?"
My throat feels dry. "Pen...Alodia. I'm Alodia."
"Well, I'm guessing my brother has never mentioned me, has he?" I shake my head in response. Hell, I didn't even know Cole has a brother. It wasn't in the media I read about Cole when I was researching about him, but well, I guess I'm starting to know bit about that secretive man. "Would you like to take a sit then?"
"Yes, of course," well, what could go wrong?
Cole.
Three long hours, I've been at a meeting with a few investors, causing me to miss the welcoming of Alodia to my house. I wanted to see the thrill in her eyes when she sees the designs. I'm pretty sure it's something she would find lovely, and as odd as it sounded, I wanted to see that pricey look.
I head back to my office and take a sit on the leather chair. From the shelf of my study table, I take out a weed and a small plastic bottle of gin to refresh myself while I remind myself of how f****d up I really am. Something about those innocent eyes of that woman makes my pants tighten. She's another of my employees, and I don't f**k my employees. I'm a w***e who's got discipline and principles.
The door to my office opens, making me open my now bloodshot eyes due to the highness. As assumed, Melchior comes inside. He's my bodyguard and the only motherfucker who can do as he wishes in my premises. "Sir, Mrs Sarah just reports to me that your chick has settled in." I raise my brows at that. Well, I didn't know he's given Alodia a nickname.
"Alrighty. Now, f**k off." I slug, but he's still standing there which makes me groan. "What?"
"Your stepbrother, Casper, is around as well."
"I thought I told that wanker to get the hell out of my property."
"The wanker seems to be deaf. What do you want me to do?" Asks Melchior.
I narrow my eyes to think when an alarm pops in my head. "Wait, did you say Alodia is in my house, the same place Casper is in?"
"It's high time you changed your weed plug, but yes, that's what I said." He acknowledges, and my fist tightens. A beast grew inside me all of a sudden, raising my anger level.
"Get me a car right now to take me home." I pass the blunt to Melchior, who's already dialling a contact.
By the time I get out of the office, there's a vehicle waiting for me already. Throughout the drive home, I sit on the edge of the chair, anxious and agitated. I haven't felt that way in forever, and I don't know if I'm to blame the weed or if this is me actually being weird over my bastard stepbrother talking to a woman I don't even care about.
The car pulls to a stop, and from the distance, I see Alodia laughing over something Casper said. My jaw twitches as my teeth grit behind my lips. My breathing quickens as I stomp towards them. Casper is the first to catch my approach and the look on my face, hastily raising his hands up.
"Bro, what the f**k is..." His words got cut off when I kicked him with my feet, sending him back on the chair, and then I grabbed his neck, tightening my fingers around it.
"What the f**k do you think you're doing?" I growl at him, my voice tight and husky.
"What the f**k, bro? I didn't even do anything but talk to the tender lady." He defends his hopeless self.
"Get the f**k out of here. You're not welcome here."
Alodia interjects, grabbing my left arm. Her hands can barely even wrap themselves around it. "Let him go. You'll kill him."
My hands brawl and I throw a punch at Casper's face, drawing blood. "There, now it seems like I want to kill him." I throw a glance at Alodia that makes her gasp and step back. I'm not in my right senses, but I'm aware of how much I'm boiling dangerously at the moment for reasons unknown to me. "You don't get to defend him, do you understand?"
"Don't threaten the lady, you devil."
"And you don't get to talk to her." I spit, facing Casper again.
"Why? Who is she to you?"
"That's my f*****g wife!" I didn't think twice before I let out that statement, making everyone shocked. Fun fact, I am too.
