Suddenly the firenado vanished and Audrey and I fell to the ground. I landed on my stomach knocking the air out of me. Lifting my head, I took in my surroundings. Audrey was lying a few feet from me groaning.
We are not at the academy or anywhere near it. “Audrey get up, we have to get out of here.” Ignoring the pain in my back, I stumbled to my feet forcing myself to go over to her.
“I need you to take this cursed thing out of my back. We can’t tarry here.”
She dusted the dirt off herself and wiped the blood away from her mouth. “It was deep. Bite down on your lip, and I will gently pull it out.” One of her hands braced itself on my shoulder, and her other hand pulled on the hilt.
