One of the creatures opened its mouth, unleashing fire. The heat penetrated the protective dome I had formed over us. My skin started to sweat, and my limbs started to tremble. Both reptile-like birds stood over seven feet, with four pointy claws that dug into the ground. They bellowed a screech causing my ear drums to vibrate.
“Target it’s legs.”
Rolling to the side, I dropped the forcefield and ran straight for the second bird charging toward me. Just before reaching it, I jumped over its head landing on its back. I stabbed my blade into its back and yanked a handful of its thick feather leaning sideways cutting several deep cuts in its legs. Without warning, it took to the air, following the other bird.
