"Tea?" I said softly, the woman in her forties still crying, with Delta Vivian standing beside me, further back, already reaching out to pour tea into the small green cups. I was giving it over silently to the thankful woman who just lost her mother this afternoon.
"Thank you…" I smiled more, pushing over my own feelings on her, my hand on her arm briefly, showing my full support for her grief, wanting to help her of all my nature, my Luna wolf purring gently, having the other hand on my baby, making sure the Delta, whose name was Clara didn't lose my attention for a moment.
"First, I'm so sorry for your loss, Delta Clara. Your mother seemed to be a great part of her trade, a shining star for the Delta rank." I smiled more, having my own cup served, but not with tea; it was hot water with lemon, lots of it, making me inhale the smell silently, before taking a small sip, trying not show the Delta just how tired I really was.
"Yes, yes… she was a good cook, one of the best…. Even made sure I knew where she had hidden her recipe for her famous blueberry pie…" My eyes perked up from hearing her say blueberry pie, since it sounded so good right now, and all Delta Vivian was letting me eat was a good, healthy diet, which could drive anyone pregnant in the fifth month crazy!
"Oh, that sounds so good, could you perhaps bake it someday, for the pack I mean?" Delta Vivian gave me a glare that I ignored, just wanting to eat something that wasn't cooked through meat and some boring mixed salad, along with potatoes, since, for some reason, potatoes were the base of a full meal according to my old Delta!
"Yes, it would be my honor, Luna." I made another smile. This one was bigger since I had pie to look forward to now, not just my mate coming back, being outside on pack business, and didn't want to bring me along. He said it was too risky with me being so far into the pregnancy.
"Thank you, and Delta Vivian will see that your mother gets a proper burial." I nodded since we were done, and the Delta wolf stood up. She wasn't happy, but she wasn't as sad as when she walked inside. I'm making sure that Delta Vivian was on top of her mother's funeral, which would help a lot for her.
"Luna Emilia, thank you… really…” I smiled more when the woman walked towards the door, seeing the two men standing outside, Mark and Anthony looking bored but dutiful, with me giving the Delta another smile, happy I could have helped her.
"It's no problem, Delta Clara, and please, let me know if there is anything I can do for you or your family…" I exhaled, feeling the baby kick me, strong when I had drunk some water, making the little Alpha inside go havoc, only two more months before she was born, and then I would be free from walking around looking like I needed a truck pass to get inside places, it was lucky the wooden palace was so big, since I was too.
"You are lucky they adored you, asking her to make her dead mother's pie, Luna?" I smiled more smugly, hearing Delta Vivian scold me, sighing, knowing that I had won already, since the whole family would expect me to come and have a taste of their grandmother's famous dessert.
"Lucky, or just adorable?" I said, snickering, getting up slowly with my hand still on my baby, kicking me again and making me laugh, knowing I wouldn't sleep tonight either, not with Caleb gone to soothe him, or her, and me turning around a thousand times, trying to get a comfortable position and missing my mate.
Delta Vivian just made another huff watching me smile happily at her, since I felt so good, even with Caleb away, me leading the pack in my own way, having a baby pink dress on with short sleeves and sandals, which the previous Alphas of this pack were rolling in their graves over.
"Luna." Mark and Anthony lowered their heads as I came out of the massive door, the golden plaque still etched into its massive wood. Still, instead of Alpha Terrance, it has Caleb's name; he had wanted to put mine there as well, until Delta Vivian informed me that she couldn't just stand by and make us look foolish before other packs, having the Luna's name on the Heads' door.
"Oh, goddess, please tell me they have something better than potatoes…." I heard a silent chuckle from Beta Anthony, before getting a correction from his brother in arms, making the corridor go quiet with me, passing every Beta bowing their head for me in the hallway with a smile, since Caleb had double the shifts before leaving, having two of his best men follow me around, day or night, having full responsibility for my wellbeing, at least until Caleb came back.
"Thank you, Mark…" I said, smiling with him staring at me crazy, since I didn't use his title, helping me down to the end of the set table with flowers in every color, where every other seat had been empty, since Caleb was gone. Most Betas were strictly forbidden to come any closer than just greeting me. Caleb demanded respect, even when he wasn't around.
"Your lunch, Luna." The Delta girl serving me made a hidden smile when she saw the disappointment on my face, then opened the cloche to reveal cooked chicken, green beans, and potatoes.
"Thank you…" I made a slight growl towards Delta Vivian, giving orders through the mindlinks; her silent scoff told me she didn't care, and she stood farther back from me with the rest of the Delta serving staff, ready to assist me at any point during my meal.
"Oh!" I made a gasp, dropping my cutlery, with Mark and Antony growling, looking around the room and Deltas holding their breaths, already wanting to come to my aid when I started to laugh, feeling the strong kick again of the baby, waving the staff down, letting the whole room know I was okay, since everyone was expecting me to go into labor around the clock!
"It's alright… just the little Alpha, showing everyone who's the head…" I heard some snickers around the room, easing the tension for everyone else. Even Mark made the tiniest smile at my happiness; he really wasn't that much for fun, or jokes, or anything other than guard duty and training, unlike his more open-minded brother.
I smiled more, taking another bite of the chicken and making a happier face since it was lemon, nodding in approval towards the staff, thanking them for the meal they had cooked and served me, getting big smiles back, with the eyes on the ground, still not brave enough to look at me from my feet.
"Oh!" I gasped again, and this time, people weren't as worried when I put the fork down and turned my head towards the main gate, making everyone on edge when I stood up, feeling it inside me more than anyone else could in this mansion.
"The head Alpha is returning, I'm sorry, but I want to go and find my mate…" I said, excusing myself with the meal barely touched. People didn't stop me, didn't hate me for not eating, not when the buzz of the Alpha coming back, even the Betas stood taller, looked more at ease with me taking short stumpy steps towards the main hall, where my mate would arrive, my heart racing in my ribs and having both hands on my belly, trying to walk faster with Beta Mark and Anthony following every step, before opening the gates before me with the nod of my head, seeing the black cars coming from a distance.
"Cay…" I said his name lovingly over the bond link, wanting him to know how much I had missed him. The three nights had been so long and lonely, and I was already starting to forget what his scent felt like in my nose.
Four men got out first, before walking around and opening the door, making me smile bigger, seeing the handsome young man get out, his expensive black suit, leather shoes, and his dark hair neatly made into a modern hairstyle, he was going to ruffle as soon as we didn't have anyone else around us.
"The head is home; I repeat, the head is home."
Caleb walked past one of his betas, talking out into the pack link with me beaming more, my hands still on my belly, watching him walk up the stairs, sure and steady, my eyes glowing with love for the man he was, for the Alpha he became, not Terrence, not Cay, who was just mine, no. He was Alpha Caleb, head of the golden moon.
"Luna." He said my title formally, giving me a short bow. I bowed back, knowing he didn't want to speak, not until we were alone. I respected that, almost giggling, as he reached out his hand, strong and steady, with us both letting out a small sigh, feeling the matebond connecting us as soon as his fingers latched around my smaller hand.
"Alpha," I said back just as formally, with him giving me a small smile, only meant for me, knowing the rest of the pack was watching us, not by curiosity, but by instinct; the whole pack wanted to be close, it was just part of the pack life.
Caleb made a nod, making the whole entourage of Beta men, dressed in black, start to move away, getting back to their car, with the household Betas stepping forward, taking over as the active duty, giving the Beta behind us some well-earned rest, after traveling for three days on the road with my mate, could not have been easy.
"Alpha - Luna, this house stands at your command." The high voice of Delta Vivian was called out, making me smile at the tall young man beside me, looking just as formal as the saying, feeling like we did it with everyone, every Beta, Delta, old or young, welcoming us back, as the power of the house we really were.
"As it should be." Caleb's voice was dark and proud, giving me chills, answering Delta Vivian with nothing more than a slight nod, happy that Caleb and I hadn't torn down all the traditions in this house.
And with that, people started to move, almost all the deltas and betas, getting back to where their duty was, the garden, kitchens, garages, library all filling up with a pleasant chatter.
Making me turn and stare at him, the tall, serious man who was mine, giving me a look with the charcoal eyes filled with love and respect, making me blush back and giggle with him taking my hand, leading me down the hall, walking towards the wing where the Alpha family lived, not showing anyone what he was really thinking with me giving him a smirk and opening the door, leading him into the bedroom.
