Chapter 22
Sarah was angry 'I trust you will be on your best behavior" what the hell was that. Mister all rich and doesn't want to be embarrassed by a commoner. Who the hell does he think he is? It's not that she didn't have an education, her parents made sure she had the proper education with the norms and the etiquette. They weren't rich but they've worked hard to reach the standing they currently had. Life wasn't always easy but they managed. For that she was proud. Hearing him say those words 'best behavior" had her fuming. How dare he?
Upon reaching her room, she tried not the pass her anger on the door, but instead took a deep calming breath and tried to think differently. Amir doesn't know her; neither does she know him. Tonight, she will put all her knowledge into use; she wants to see Amir be left mouth open.
Walking toward the closet, she saw a door to which it was written dresses. Opening it, she saw multiples silk-like and cotton dresses of all colors. Marvel by the sight, she started touching them one by one and pulling out a few. She took her time admiring them to the point she couldn't decide on what to wear for dinner. It was dignitaries coming, which means an official dinner, of course, she knew that. As she ponders, her eyes fell on a beautiful black dress, it was half sleeve, with a zipper in the back, and the length reached look to be knees high, there was a small design of thin lines on both sides of the dress. It was a simple dress yet quite beautiful. Perfect for tonight she thought.
With that said, she set about preparing her makeup equipment, though she was not a fan, tonight would require she wear just a bit more than usual. Once everything was set up, she sat on her working table and opened her laptop. Checking the time frame, she saw it was a bit too early to contact her family and Anna. Instead of using her w******p, she sends them a text asking them to let her know when they awake.
With that done, she took her camera to view the pictures she had taken when she arrived. Deciding to edit them, she set her alarm to ring an hour before the planned dinner. Putting on her music, she lost herself in her world of photography.
Amir was unable to concentrate on his work after Sarah's reaction; he was immersed in his thoughts that were of her. Her eyes, her smile, her mouth, her nose; It was as if she was standing in front of him. Suddenly he was wondering what she was doing, had she eaten? Picking up his phone house, he dials Alfred line to which he answered on the first ring
"Mr. Amir, how can I be of service?"
"Has Ms. Sarah eaten Alfred?"
"Yes Sir, about an hour ago"
"I see"
"Do you know where she is at the moment?"
"She is in her room sir"
"She is in her room? Ah yes, of course"
"Would you mind checking on her and make sure she is alright and let me know"
Perplexed by Amir demand Alfred answered hesitantly "Of course sir, I'll do so right away"
"Anything else"
"Ah yes, maybe you could help her out with tonight nightwear, I am sure she could use a bit of help"
"Roger, sir, I should go right this moment"
"Thank you, Alfred"
Amir ended the call, feeling a bit better but still unable to concentrate; for he was awaiting with impatience the result of the tasks he gave to Alfred. But a knock on his door pulled him away from his thought. He already knew who it was, so without hesitation, he told them to enter.
Ben and Blake entered the room and walked straight to the sofa where they sat down; Amir had gotten up from his chair and also sat down on the sofa. Ben had a folder in his hands and placed it on the table while opening it and handing it over to Amir.
Taking the file, Amir started reading it through. It was a report on a group of terrorists they've heard had overtaken the west region of Damascus. If the regime didn't do something, many more lives were going to be lost. He cut his ties with the regime after having retired, but once in while his counsels were sought, thus the reason for the official dinner.
Upon arriving in front of Sarah's door, Alfred could hear music been played. He knocked at the door a little louder than he wanted.
Upon hearing the loud knock, Sarah quickly lowered the music "Yes"
"Ms. Sarah, it's me, Alfred, is everything ok?"
Sarah got up from her chair and went to open the door. She stood in the middle of it and answered "Yes I am quite alright; doing a bit of work. Did you need me?"
"Would you need any help for tonight, in terms of preparations?"
"That is quite nice of you, but I have everything handled"
"Are you sure?"
"Of course,"
Hesitantly Alfred responded "Well if you need any assistance, please be free to contact me"
At that moment, a thought came to her mind "Hmm Sir" deciding not to use Alfred name yet "Did by any chance Mr. Amir sent you"
"Yes, Miss."
"And he sent you with the idea that I wouldn't have any clue on what to wear for tonight and that I could use the help"
"Well yes, Miss."
Crossing her hands under her breast, she gave a wicked smile to Alfred "Tell Mr. Amir that I said that I was fine and that when I need help, I would ask and, in the meantime, he can rest assure that Sarah is an educated woman with manners"
Lost from Sarah's response, Alfred could only nod.
"Thank you," says Sarah and with that, she closed the door
Alfred feeling lost, went about to Amir's office. Knocking at his door, he heard Amir telling him to enter.
Upon seen Alfred, all discussion stops.
"Yes Alfred, how is Ms. Sarah faring"
"I went about to propose my help, but I feel like I may have irritated the lady a bit"
"I don't think you did," says Amir as he took a deep breath.
"Were you able to help her with her dress choosing?"
"No sir, my lady clearly said she had everything under control"
Amir had no doubts, she had everything under control, but he also didn't want her to feel uncomfortable in that dinner. Getting up, he decided that he will head over to her chambers and choose the garments himself.
Sensing where he was going, Ben quickly intervened. "Sir, I believe you could give the lady a minimum of credit, she did say she had everything under control, right Alfred"
"Of course," responded Alfred.
"But" replied Amir
"Ben is right," says Blake. I believe you should trust her.
Everything in him was revolting against that; he knew the guys were right. If by any indication, the way he had seen her dress for the gala, she will be fine. But the real truth was that he wanted to see her and get an answer as to why she acted the way she did earlier in his office.
With the insistence of the guys, he let go of the idea and settle back down to continue his discussions. In two hours, he would have to get ready.
