Chapter 27
She was standing in the middle of a vast cemetery, dress in a white wedding dress, from far across the distance, she could hear cries of pain and sorrow. A white horse was coming her way at a fast pace. She tried to move, but her feet felt like they were glued to the ground. She felt a dark presence behind her, goosebumps rose from her skin. 'Come on' she yells at her feet, but it was no use. Out of the dark presence, a bone hand came out and grabs her around the neck, strangling her. She whispered Jesus' name, but her mouth could hardly move and in her heart, she was praying with all her might.
She could hear the horse footstep coming closer and all of sudden she felt she was been ripped out of the hand of the dark presence. She was on top of the horse, but she could hardly see the person holding her, but she felt safe and loved. She turns her head back only to see the darkness was following them. Just as they reach the entrance of the cemetery, she heard a voice telling her to awake, not understanding, she did as she was told, and she closes her eyes.
When she reopening her eyes, she saw herself lying on her right side on the bed and taking a deep breath she brought her left hand around her neck. That dream felt all too real. Why was she in the cemetery, who was the dark presence? She didn't have to ask for the horse or the invisible being that had been holding her. That presence felt all too soothing and familiar. But the cemetery and the dark presence, what was that?
Sighting, she would have to call her mother and explain the dream, she tried to move her legs and that's when she felt something on top of them, becoming alert she raised her head only to see another leg on top of hers. It was also at that moment that she saw the arm that was embracing her around her stomach. Swallowing deeply, she looks behind her to see Amir sleeping.
It was at that moment that she also realized that she was not wearing her pajamas, but she was in her undergarment. First, she thought about screaming, but as she looks at him so peacefully sleeping, all thought of pushing him off the bed vanishes. Instead, she sat there admiring his face. He had a thin nose, his eyebrow was to die for, and they were full and well curved. His mouth was plump and she had to admit juicy as she remembers last night. His silky hair was begging to be touched. Unable to resist, she did exactly that, earning her a low groan from him. She froze and frowned.
"Amir" she called out. No response. She moved her hands once more in his hair, which earned her another groan "ah non (oh no) says she in her mother language which was French as she realized that Amir was not sleeping. She was just about to push him when she felt his grip tightening around her stomach and before she knows it, she was on her back and Amir was on top of her.
"Good morning sunshine," says he with a smirk
"How long have you been awake" ask Sarah
"I have been awake for quite sometimes; you were sleep talking and you had a frown on your face. Were you having a bad dream?"
Breathing deeply, she thought about what Amir said, her dream was indeed weird, but she could now understand why her feet felt heavy, it was because Amir's legs were top of hers, but then again was it the cause. In her culture, it is believed that depending on your position on the bed or whatever is happening to your body, in reality, can affect you in a dream. So it was too much of a coincidence. But then again, what was that all about the dark force and the cemetery.
It was true that Amir had been watching her sleeping. It was her that pulls him out of his dream, which was surprising; he wasn't the type of person to dream. He had held her during her struggle; it was if she was struggling against something. When he had felt her calm, he had gone back to lying down; he didn't want her to freak out had she seen him watching her. Looks like he had made the right call, but then when she put her hands in his hair, he could not help but groan, it felt too good to resist.
As he watched her thinking, he lays a kiss on her forehead "you want to talk about the dream you just had"
Sarah was a bit reluctant to explain to Amir what she saw, but then again, judging by his sincere expression, she believes that she could explain it to him which she did. Throughout her telling her dream, Amir had slightly moved on his side. His head on his right hand and the other resting on his tight was his legs were still on top of hers. He was listening with attention as she spoke. At the end of it, he didn't utter a word, he was deep into thinking.
Amir didn't like the dream, but he was not an interpreter of dreams so he could hardly provide any input. But he was glad that she was able to confide into him. He pulled her close to him and lay his head on her shoulder "I don't understand your dream, but what I can tell you is that Allah will protect you"
Sarah didn't make any comments. They both lay there just enjoying each other presence both lost in their thoughts. It was the knock at the door that brought them back to reality. Looking at the clock, Amir realized that it was close to nine in the morning. This has never happened to him, but he couldn't blame himself, he was at peace for once. He got up from the bed and went about the door; he opens it to find Alfred there.
"Sir, I don't mean to disrupt you, but your uncle has requested your presence as you both would be leaving in a few minutes"
"Thank you, Alfred; I should be down in a few"
He closed the door and turn to Sarah who already had a robe covering her. Disappointed, yes he was but shook himself out of it. "We will be heading out in an hour, will you have time to get ready and have your equipment ready as well"
"An hour is more than enough, where are we heading?"
"We will be flying to Damascus and we will probably spend a couple of days over there"
"Alright"
He walks over to her, and lightly kissed her on the lips and without saying anything, he left her room.
As Amir left the room, Sarah could finally let go of the breath she was holding. She could not understand what had happened between her and Amir. A man she barely knows had slept in the same bed as her and had been respectful enough not to try anything. She had to applaud him for holding on his restraint for it took a lot more for her not to give in. He was just too irresistible. A smile spread across her face as she realizes that he hadn't run away upon hearing she was a virgin. Maybe just maybe whatever is happening between them, she could lean toward it. But would it work out? She didn't know. A month ago, had someone told her that she was going to meet a man who would have hired her for her service and at the same time be interested in her, she would have scoffed. Now.... she was a bit lost but she knew one thing, if Amir wanted her, he would have to prove it.
It took less than twenty minutes for Amir to get ready. He proceeded to the dining room to meet his uncle. "Good morning uncle"
"Good morning Amir" he had a journal opened in front of him. As Amir sat down, his uncle asked "what are your intentions towards her"
"What do you mean uncle?"
"Do not play the i***t with me"
Sighting "I intend to make her my wife"
Putting down the journal, Salam turns his eyes toward his nephew "are you sure you want to bring her into our culture and religion"
"It doesn't matter what religion she is, as for the culture I am sure she can adapt," says Amir with a bit of annoyance.
"A piece of advice Amir, you must not assume for her and certainly don't act without her consent. She is a woman who was born into a different reality from us if you intend to make her yours, be sure to show her what she will be going through. For only then you will be sure that she won't abandon you halfway"
Amir Jaw tighten at his uncle words and he responds "Sarah will be my wife no matter what I have to do to make it happen, even if it means without her consent"
Sarah entered the dining room, to see both Amir and Salem in a staring contest; the tension in the room was palpable. Clearing her throat, timidly she says "Good morning, am I interrupting something"
Turning his attention away from his nephew, Salam smiles at Sarah "No dear you are not, why don't you take a sit" As Sarah sat down and the servants started serving her food "I trust you had good night Sarah"
She was so happy she was dark skin; otherwise, they would have seen the blush on her cheeks. Stealing a glance at Amir, she responded to Salem "Yes I had a good sleep, how about you"
"Can't say it was pleasant for I miss my dear wife"
"I am sure she misses you as well"
Alfred entered at that moment to inform them that the helicopter was ready.
"Thank you, Alfred," said Amir "Sarah, I don't mean to pressure you but let's hurry up so we could catch our flight"
Salem watches his nephew as he spoke to Sarah, he couldn't be more surprise with his reaction. Since last night he had been observing him. It was true, his nephew was taken by Sarah, but then again, the arrogance he had displayed a few minutes ago had vanished the moment Sarah had entered the room.
Salam felt a sense of peace overwhelm him as he comes into the realization that Sarah could exactly be the cure to cure his nephew's heart. Smiling to himself, Salem thought 'looks like my nephew may have finally met his match' he turns to look at Sarah. But then again, he may have to chaperone him, especially if he goes through what he said earlier. He couldn't wait to tell his wife; since she will know what to do.
