Chapter 6

"The mystery has been unveiled," said Guillermo as he placed a magazine in front of him. They were currently in a Gentlemen bar called "Toxic" located in the Irvington area. "What are you talking about?" Laying his hand on the magazine, Guillermo said "remember our two intriguing friends at the banquet" A flash of red and black suddenly appeared in front of his eyes, how could he forget? He did his investigation and no one could tell him who those girls where. It's like they were a ghost or something. Curiosity spikes him the moment he saw the smirk on his friend's lips. "What did you find?" Instead of answering, Guillermo turned the magazine toward him. On the front page was a picture of the Marriot hotel in all its beauty. On top of the page, was written 'A one of a kind banquet'. A little lost, he looked up to Guillermo with his left eyebrow raised "I am sure nothing is interesting in the article, we were there. No offense to our dear friend who runs that magazine." "I am sure our mutual friend wouldn't take that as an offense. Anyway, back on the subject, the article itself is really interesting, I promised you that" answered Guillermo but it's the person who wrote the article..." "Guillermo stop with the mystery will you, we don't have time to play games" "Since when did you become a fun destroyer?" "Since the moment I was forced to stay in this country for this weekend" "Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed again today" taking a deep breath; Guillermo opened the magazine on the 7th page and pointed his finger on a picture at the bottom of the page. Looking a little bit closer, it took a while for him to recognize the person in the picture. But once he did, every single cell in his brain went haywire. He almost ripped the magazine out of Guillermo's hands and brought it closer to his face. Yes, this was the girl that has been haunting his dreams since Friday night. Next to her picture was the name Sarah Bayou, writer. So she was a journalist. It all made sense. "You should read the article and her poem on page 15," said Guillermo. Without wasting time, he did. Once he reached the end, he turned the page to see if there was not another page where the story continues and was disappointed when he saw there was not. It was true that he was at the banquet, but with this article, he relived the banquet on a whole new level. He was flabbergasted, that was pure ecstasy. He wanted more and more. He looked up to Guillermo who had this goofy smile "Page 15". He didn't hesitate to turn to page 15. It was the poem section of the magazine and next to a poem, Sarah Bayou's name was once again written. He read the title "Breath Stealer" As he read every word, he felt the anger build within him. Who was this man that stole her breath? Without realizing, his hands were in a tight fist. "Relax my friend," said Guillermo. "She is a writer; I am sure this poem has nothing to do with anyone" "It doesn't matter whether it does or does not" He felt a little disappointed, but then again it was wishful thinking to assume she may have been single. A beautiful girl of her caliber... he didn't finish his train of thought. Instead, his eyes went back to her picture at the bottom of the page. Suddenly an idea struck him; an idea that he sure will be the answer to his prayers. Meantime, somewhere in South Orange, the predator had acquired an accurate file of his prey. As his men stood around him, he gave the order to take the girl on Monday night, at the time she will leave her office. Amazing how a little money could give you all the information you needed. Pretty soon, he will have his prey and cherish her like he believes she truly deserves. Monday morning, both Sarah and Anna walked into the office and froze at that site in front of them. A round of applause exploded in the room and all were directed toward them. "What's going on" whispered Anna "I don't know, but we are about to found out" Colin was walking toward the girls with a smile that could sure reach the stars. The applause died down the moment Colin reached them. "Have you read your email lately?" With a guilty look both girls only shook their heads from left to right "of course, I forgot during the weekend you girls become cavewomen. Your latest article has been a hit and we have been receiving calls left and right requesting for both of you to assists events and to write about them. Of course, the demands for our other writers have also soared. I knew by putting both of you on that event would have made the splash we needed." "You are welcome I guest" Said Sarah "Go check your emails then we will talk, and Anna, the basketball winter tournament is starting this Friday, I expect an article by the end of the day about it" "By the end of the day, you know it takes time to write a good sport article?" "Just give me the best material, now time to work" Both girls hurriedly went to their office. Pure excitement was running through their blood and they couldn't wait to put it into writing. He and Guillermo arrived at the Deluxe ten minutes before 12. Upon their arrival, they were quickly brought to Colin's office. Colin, Guillermo and he go way back. They met Colin during their last year of high school and used to call him the ruthless. It surprised them both when Colin decided to step out of his father's protection and started his own magazine company and has known success ever since. Colin was slowly but surely climbing the ladder. The last time he came there, was a year ago, things have changed. He last saw Colin two months ago when he came to his country to aid him in a particular case. At that time Guillermo was unavailable, and he had to contact Colin. He hated getting him involved in certain things since he was now a married man, but a marriage to which he did not understand the root of it. Like him, Colin didn't trust women, so it was a surprise when he had announced that he had gotten married. Once the door to the office opened, they were greeted with a smiling Colin "My goodness, when you called me and told me you will stop here, I didn't want to believe it" "Did you seriously think; we would have left the country without even seen you" answered Guillermo. "Who do you take us for?" "Friends who only know you exist the moment they need you only" "Ouch, touché," said he They hugged each other and caught up on certain things in their respective lives as they sip a glass of whiskey. "So tell me what brings both of you here and don't tell me it's because you did not see me at the banquet or the gentlemen club as we were supposed to meet," said Colin with a seriousness that would have intimidated anybody else, but only had both men raising their eyebrows. Wearing a grey suit, with a blue tie and white shirt, a Gucci watch on his left wrist, he crossed his right leg over his left one showing his classical black handmade leather shoes and answered "I am interested in one of your writer" "You are interested in one of my writers, whom and why?" "Her name is Sarah Bayou; she wrote the article 'A one of a kind banquet' and the poem 'Breath Stealer' "Why are you interested in her," said Colin with a defensive tone. Both guys notice his defensive tone "You know how things are in my country, unfortunately, we are lacking coverage. The true story is not being told properly. I need a writer that can bring reality into people's minds. To make them feel as if they were within the war zone. After reading her article, I believe she is the perfect candidate for that" Colin was surprised by his friend's request and the excitement behind it. He rarely saw him excited. For the boy who was forced to become a man at a very young age, he was the definition of a true cold monster. Cold as ice when it comes to emotions, you can never tell what he is thinking. The most manipulative mind he had ever met, he always felt sorry for the enemies that crossed his path. He could make you and destroy you within the same moment. It's unbelievable how the three of them click it right off, deep down they were related in more ways than they can count. So, to see his friend showing some kind of emotion was a surprise because it rarely happens. And the thought that he asks for Sarah had all the hairs on his body standing up. He had no right to act Jealous, but he couldn't help it. "Before you get all riled up, we did meet her and her friend at the banquet," said Guillermo "maybe we can talk to the both of them" "Ah yes, the banquet, I did send them to cover it. I need more details about this plan of yours before I consider letting her work for you" as he said so, he picked up the phone and dial Sarah extension. She picked up on the first ring "Yes Mr. Colin" "Can you and Anna come into my office?" "Coming" "They are both coming," says Colin as he sat down. Two minutes later, there was a knock at the door "come in" says Colin As she heard come in, Sarah opened the door to Colin's office and step in, followed by Anna. In front of Colin, there were two men that she couldn't see their faces since their back was to them. Something about them looks a little familiar. But deciding not to linger on it, she asks Colin "what did you need us for" and of course Anna did her usual Anna way "You know you gave me till the end of the day to give you an awesome article for the basketball winter tournament, I swear if you call us here for more work...." There was a throat-clearing that caused Anna to stop mid-sentence. Guillermo was trying to contain his smile. It was the first time he had ever seen a girl talk like that to Colin. Not even his wife would dare. This made him wonder but seen that the room had gotten quiet with his little interruption, he decided to get up followed by his friend and turned toward the girls. In front of them, stood two beauties that they had hoped to see again; both looked so different without makeup; he would say their natural beauty was more stunning. He was speechless. Sarah held her breath the moment both men turned toward them, handsome as the moon; they were the same men she and Anna had seen at the banquet. She would recognize their aura anywhere. However, what surprised her was their beauty. They were handsome if Apollo truly existed; she had an idea of how he'll look. Her eyes darted to the one with black hair, beautiful could not even describe him. It should be illegal to look this handsome. He was white with a bit of tan to his skin. His hair was naturally pulled back and it reaches till his neck. She wonders how it would feel under her hands. His dark brown eyes show knowledge and hidden secrets beyond her comprehension. She felt her heart skip a beat. For some reason, she felt fear and excitement course through her vein. This could not be good. Pulling herself back to reality, she removed her eyes from her breath stealer and looked toward Colin. At that moment she wondered what were they doing in Colin's office? "Sarah and Anna, I would like to present to you, two of my dearest most undesirable, yet loving best friends." Said, Colin "Quite a nice way to present us," said the one with the brown hair. He had this boyish look about him, and the corner of his mouth indicated that he loves to laugh. At 6'3, he was quite impressive looking with his grey and black eyes. He walked toward us and raised his hands "I am Guillermo Monteiro" said he with a hint of an accent that she could not quite catch. She watched his eyes as he shook Anna's hands, and saw something there but disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Suddenly the other men moved toward her, Sarah held on to her breath without realizing so. This was the man; she half saw at the banquet. The man she wrote her poem about. He was better looking than she originally thought. Such man should not exist to save guard the heart of the damsels. For right now her heart needed a little bit of protection, for the drum was getting louder and louder as he approached them. He stopped in front of her and raised his hand and with a bit of nervousness, she raised her own and shook his as he says "I am Amir Saab"
