Ansel sat down behind his desk and indicated for me to sit in front of him. Time to really get to know this man, I thought. I sat down and stared into his golden eyes, and remembered them peering up at me from between my legs earlier that morning. I shook myself, it was far too easy to get lost in those mesmerising eyes. Ansel cleared his throat, and started "Well, I can definitely say I was not expecting to find you last night." He paused. "And although I haven't discussed this with the elders, I would like you to be my Luna, and we should plan your ceremony for within the next few weeks. I'll call an urgent meeting with the elders for this afternoon, and introduce you."
Whoa, Luna? I must have looked shocked because Ansel asked "Are you okay Sierra?"
"I uh.. It's a lot to take in" I mumbled. "You want me to be the Luna of Centuri?" I asked. "Ansel, I'm flattered but I don't know the first thing about being a Luna." He had to be joking, right?
"You'll learn as you go, my love" he said with a warm smile. "I think this is the logical next step for us, and, of course, marriage and then pups".
"Pups?!" I shrieked. "Wow, this is... uhhh... It's only been a day...!" I said exasperatedly. "I mean, I was just settling on the idea of a mate. Ansel, I'm not even sure I can stay here, let alone be Luna and get married!" He was already talking about pups? He was an utter dreamboat, but I was only just eighteen... I had only just met him and started to let the idea of a mate sink in! This was too fast. Until recently, I wasn't planning on even staying in this pack.
"Why can't you stay here?" He asked, looking crestfallen.
I took a deep breath. "OK, you want the honest truth?" I couldn't hold off any longer. I had to tell him here and now, while I was brave enough to do so. It was too hard to keep anything from him. The look of hurt on his face wounded me. It hurt me to see him hurt. I couldn't lie to him, and I couldn't hurt him. This would be tricky to navigate, but I figured honesty was my best bet at this stage.
"Of course" he said hopefully.
I took a deep breath and let the words fall out of my mouth in a cascade of verbal diarrhoea. "Ansel, I was planning on leaving this pack last night. I was all set to leave forever." I let that resonate and continued. "I was never going to allow the elders in the pack to push me into an arranged marriage and serve their misogynistic purpose. I cannot live under such draconian rules. I won't." I stopped. Perhaps I'd said too much. He'd probably banish me now anyway, for speaking against the elders. Time to see what kind of Alpha he really was. I waited for the anticipated anger. Ansel sat there, staring at me intently, his hands clasped in front of him on the desk. I was on a roll now, so I continued.
"I can't believe this pack has allowed the elders to make its decisions for all these years. It's so old school! Our women are forced to serve a man they don't love. Humans have moved on from this. Why haven't we? How twisted are we that we allow a bunch of old men, stuck in their ways, that was acceptable practice in the dark ages, to make important decisions for the whole pack?! I'd rather go rogue and be hunted down, then become another victim of their obsolete ideologies." I stopped abruptly. I'd definitely said too much.
Ansel sat silently for a few minutes. I waited with bated breath for the onslaught. When he finally spoke, what he said surprised me. "Well, I must say I wasn't expecting that. But I think I know why the moon goddess brought us together". He smirked.
"You.. do?" I asked quietly. Why was he smiling?
He moved in one fluid motion and stood in front of me. He knelt down and took my hands. "Sierra, you have no idea how happy hearing that has made me. I've watched my own pack suffer for years because of the decisions of the elders. My own mother and sister, were forced to marry. I've seen what they've been through. The torment of not being able to be their own person. Watching my sister grow up and coming to the realisation that she'll never be in control of her own future. That her life is planned out for her already. That she may have to serve someone who may mistreat her and she will be powerless to do anything about it. I won't have it." His eyes turned black and his nostrils flared in anger as he concluded. I could see he was passionate about this. "The elders need to be brought into the twenty-first century" he continued, "Things have got to change around here".
I stood there, dumbstruck, staring at his dazzling face. A man who agreed that the oppression of the women in our pack was wrong? Who was in a position to do something? Who was seemingly infatuated with... me?
"Well, that was not the reaction I was expecting" I muttered, half to myself as to Ansel.
Ansels' face softened. He got up from the desk and walked over to me and brought my hands up to his mouth and gently kissed them. "Fate has spoken, the moon goddess has chosen, we do this together", he softly growled.
I couldn't believe my luck. "Ansel, I never thought I would ever find someone who shared the same views on this as me... let alone the alpha. How have you managed to hide this notion all this time?" I asked.
Ansel didn't let go of my hands. He started to draw circles around my knuckles with his thumbs. Gentle soothing caresses.
"I figured it would be better to wait until I was in a position to do something, until I had some chance of success. The elders oppress me, just as much as everyone else. I am barely allowed to breathe without their say so. I have obeyed, and retained my moral compass, in the hope that some day, I would be able to make a move, to change things for the better."
I had already made my decision. "Well, in that case, we had better tell my parents that I'm moving in." His face lit up, and a broad, beautiful smile slid across his face.
"You won't regret this, my Luna," he purred softly in my ear. Then he trailed kisses from my ear, down my neck and traced the line of my collarbone with his soft decadent mouth. I leaned into his touch, aching for what must come soon after. His arm wrapped around my lower back and pulled me closer to him. I readily obliged, leaning into him with my hips, feeling his hardness press into me. He pressed me tighter and I pulled his face up and close to mine. I kissed him deeply. Exploring his mouth and savouring his sweet taste. My wolf was ecstatic and hot and as ready as I was for another physical adventure with this damn-fine specimen of a man. I felt Ansel smile through our kiss, chuckle and then pull away. "As much as I'd love to spend the day hiding away with you, exploring every facet of your delectable body, we have things to do".
I pouted. It was petulant of me to do, but I wasn't ready to finish my exploration of his body.
Ansel chuckled, a deep husky sound that made my wolf writhe with desire. "It's time to meet the pack - your new family"
