This novel has had a strange path to publication. It’s often been called the cursed novel, because of the number of hurricanes, earthquakes and other events that prevented Trivium Publishing from bringing it out then the collapse of Satalyte.
I very much appreciate Next Chapter (and, earlier, Satalyte) for taking it on. Without Tamara Mazzei, however, this book would still be in my ‘Unfinished Fiction’ folder, rather than plaguing the world. Tamara is the editor who told me I should be publishing again and persuaded me that this novel and Illuminations had to be seen. She is the editor who changed my life.
IlluminationsSpecial gratitude goes to my family and folkdance friends, especially in Canberra and Melbourne. Marilla Cooper, Robyn Priddle and Ernie Gruner started me on that journey, though I’m not sure they knew it. Marilla lured me into morris dancing, for the record. Without friends such as the McCulloch-McLennans, the Formiattis, the Roses, Bev Beattie and my email friends (especially the somewhat lunatic penmanreview email list) my life at the time I wrote this novel could easily have been like Fay’s, which it never was. Thank you, all.
