I pulled back the covers, realizing only then how expansive the bed I sat in felt. Is this silk? I wouldn’t know, but I’d never felt sheets so soft, so smooth. I ran my hand over the bed linens, trying to remember if we’d checked into some exotic hotel, when someone knocked on the door. A moment later, it swung open. I glanced up, expecting to see my best friend with Starbucks or something… Except it wasn’t her at all. It was Mr. Nix. All that relaxation left me as if I’d flipped a switch. I tensed up and scrambled back into the bed, pulling up the sheets, though I was fully dressed. “What are you—?” The memories hit me like a freight train. I didn’t go back to the bar after I’d fought with Ben. I never made it there because I’d run into this guy. He called me his bride. That’s right!
