Eleanor's pov. “Alpha! Are you just going to stand there and watch her? She just slapped me!” The filthy b***h whined. “Why don't you do something about it?” I snapped at her but I was quickly called to order when Alpha Emric sliced through my face with a deafening slap. I staggered backwards, the sides of my eyes stinging with tears. I looked up at him, only to find him red with anger, his fists clenched, and his b***h grinning at me. Alpha Emric has never slapped me in front of any of the women he brings home, what makes this one so special? Why is he letting her talk him into laying his hands on me? I couldn't believe what had just happened. My ears were still throbbing when he took my hand and dragged me out of the room, taking me back into the room he had specially prepared for me. He rarely visits me in there. “What do you think you're doing?” He asked, shutting the door with a loud bang. I jolted in fright, shaking in anticipation of what he was going to do next. “Tell me Eleanor, what gave you the right to hit her?” He asked again. “I am your mate Alpha Emric, you can't keep disrespecting me in front of your whores.” I sniffed, my lips already quivering. “My mate?” “Yes, I am your mate!” “So that gives you the right to slap her? Do you know who she is?” “Who is she?” I genuinely wanted to know. “She is Ophelia!” Ophelia? I have heard that name once, and I remember it clearly. Before I found out that the Alpha is my mate, I used to clean the pack house with some other slaves. Most of us used to speak to the inhouse maids, getting a lot of juicy secrets about the lives of the members of the Alpha's family. I found out about Ophelia from them. Apparently, she was Alpha Emric's childhood friend, they went to middle school and high school together, and they were very close to each other. The entire family of the Alpha loved her, so much so that they were rooting for her to be his mate. But all of this became history after she was accused and exposed of having affairs with other men outside and within the pack. The previous Luna was particularly strict about the Luna of a pack being morally upright. She immediately changed her mind about Ophelia. Why did Alpha Emric bring her back here after all his mother's warning? Why did he decide to cheat on our mate bond with a girl who has a lose character? “So what if she's Ophelia? What is she even doing here? Your mother said she was never to step foot into this pack house again.” I reminded him, because I was there on the very day that the late Luna said that. “My mother… of course you would bring her up, she's the only person who has ever liked you anyway.” He scoffed and I furrowed my brows, offended by his nasty choice of words. “What do you mean by that? Don't act like we never used to get along. We were so in love but you changed!” To my surprise, he started to laugh, having to hold onto the bed stand to support himself. At a point, it irritated me, causing my face to squeeze into a frown. “You still don't get it, do you? When did everything change Eleanor?” He asked. “When mother died.” I answered reluctantly. “Good! At least you're not all that dumb!” He shook his head. “It's mother Eleanor dear! It's mother! She's the reason why I named you my mate in front of everyone, she's the reason why I decided to work on our relationship!” Shock washed over me, enveloping me in way that caused goosebumps to cover my skin. I stared at him with my mouth wide open, trying to wrap my head around what I had just heard. “This can't be..” I muttered, a single tear dropping from my eye. “Poor thing. Did you really think I was helplessly in love with you? No Eleanor! I was only doing it for my mother's happiness! But after she died, I realized there was no point in trying to love who I hated.” “Baby!!” Ophelia called out from the other room, gaining his instant attention. “We still have some scores to settle Eleanor. I'll meet you in the courtyard in an hour.” He walked out on me, running to meet his mistress while he left me in shambles, regretting the two years I have spent loving this man! I actually believed him, I believed that he loved me, I believed that genuinely cares for me, I believed that he was going to change. How foolish have I been? How could I have fallen for such a lie? He was only trying to impress his mother. But then why did he constantly make love to me like he was enjoying it? For two straight minutes, I couldn't move from the spot, but I eventually gathered the courage to walk over to the bed and sit down. What does he want to do in the courtyard in an hour? I have never been so anxious. My feet and hands became cold all of a sudden, I was not looking forward to whatever that was going to happen. My eyes remained glued to the clock until an hour passed. I reluctantly dragged myself out of the room, heading to the courtyard to honor the Alpha's call. I would easily be executed if I even tried to disobey. My heart drummed as I approached the courtyard. The sound of people murmuring got me even more worried. As soon as I stepped out, the noise died down, and a gathering of at least twenty people directed their gazes at me. I knew all of them, every single one of them. They were the Alpha's extended family, the beta's family, the Gamma's family, and two of the pack's elders. “It's not good manners to keep the Alpha waiting.” Alpha Emric appeared from among the crowd, grinning at me. I lowered my head in fear. “I'm sorry.” I muttered under my breath and he turned to everyone, calling their attention. “Tomorrow is the New moon festival, one to celebrate the beginning of the moon's cycle for the month. It's a special celebration, and I have an important announcement to make during the festival.” He read out. My heart was thumping against my chest, what does any of this have to do with me? “So,” he continued, his hand in his pocket, looking gorgeous as always. Why do I still admire him? “I want to make one important thing known to everyone, prior to my announcement tomorrow.” He cleared his throat and turned to me again. I barely lifted my head to look at him. “Eleanor has been nothing but a thorn in my flesh, and today, I want to express my disapproval of the relationship we both share.” His gaze was intent, a brewing happiness visible in his body movements. I shook my head in agony, hoping that he wasn't about to do what I thought he was going to do. “Alpha Emric, we can sort this out.” I whispered but he ignored me completely, like I hadn't just spoken to him. “On that note, I Alpha Emric of Saffron falls pack, reject you, Eleanor, as my mate and Luna of Saffron falls pack.” He had no regret, absolutely no remorse.
