30 We quickly usher Ben inside the house, praying that none of the neighbours are watching. Standing in the hallway, I groan with exhaustion and then hang my coat up on the banister. “Come on, Ben,” Mum says, “let’s sit down and watch that TV show you like.” I don’t know for certain what he likes or dislikes, but I’m pretty sure vampires don’t like Grand Designs. My mouth is dry and I’m still sweaty from tonight’s events, so I walk into the kitchen to get something to drink. At the sink, I fill up a glass with water, and sit at the table.
